Posted June 11, 201411 yr To be fair, it's more Aliens vs Groundhog Day, with Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton. I think Bill was in Aliens, and fresh off Agents of SHIELD, so perfectly suited here. Tom Cruise seems to have moved over into sci-fi blockbusters these days, which (as I've never been much of a fan of his earlier films) is fine by me. This one's not as good as Oblivion, but it has it's appeal - I'm a sucker for time-travel films, for a start! Overall, action-packed, good character development, the cast is good, and I liked the ending. I thought the early part of the film was superfluous, really. It could easily have been dropped for a bit more development in the bulk of the action-packed sequences, and just a reference or two in flashback. good though 6 or 7 out of 10.
June 12, 201411 yr It took a while to get going for me but once the repetition of the day started it got a lot better, packing in the Tom Cruise humour that I love. Really like Emily Blunt too but I tuned out a bit again once he stopped dying. Peaked in the middle, overall I gave it 6/10.
June 12, 201411 yr Really enjoyed this. Emily Blunt is a weakness of mine and she duly delivered. The story wasn't too hard to understand, but I would agree with comments the middle part of the film is the best. Although there's never any danger. At least in the final part you know there's a real element of danger involved for them all.
July 1, 201411 yr I watched this movie yesterday and I loved it! I think that it was the most exciting film this year (so far)! It has a lot of suspense, many funny scenes and very clever scenario. I hadn't read about the basic story of the movie because I watched only the official trailer and I didn't know that it would have many common things with “Groundhog Day” and “Butterfly Effect”. So, that was a pleasant surprise for me! Tom Cruise was the most suitable actor for this role. I believe that he is the best film star for these kind of films. He is an “A Class Star” in my opinion. Emily Blunt was the leading actress of the film. She usually plays classic characters of books or history. This role was the most different for her but she was amazing as “Sergeant Rita Vrataski”. Doug Liman is the director of the movie. I have watched many of his old movies in the past (Go, The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Jumper) but I think that “Edge of Tomorrow” is his best film so far! The visual effects were impressive, the sound editing was exceptional and the film editing team did a great job! Surely, there are many short scenes in this film and maybe some viewers will get tired, but this was the best thing about this film. You can't be sure about anything and the plot changed a lot of times during the movie. It was also so unpredictable which it's a rare phenomenon for a Hollywood production. “Edge of Tomorrow” costed a whole fortune for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow ($178.000.000). It didn't have the best beginning in the Box Office but it managed to overtake its budget worldwide (& 318.000.000). It seems that many viewers love it based on Imdb! It has a great average score (8,1)! I think that “Edge of Tomorrow” is the best blockbuster of the summer (so far) and it's the most fascinating film this year. I hope we will watch many military science fiction films like this in the future!!!
