Umi's Chart Highlights

  • As 'Fancy' hits #1 on radio songs, it becomes the first song by a lead female rapper to top radio since 'Magic Stick' by Lil' Kim in July 2003.
  • Iggy is only the third female rapper to top the radio chart, with the others being Lil' Kim (also on 'Lady Marmalade') and Eve ('Let Me Blow Ya Mind').
  • Both 'Fancy' and 'Problem' increase on radio but decrease on sales and streaming. In total, 'Fancy' decreases by 5% in Hot 100 points while 'Problem' decreases by 6%, meaning 'Fancy' is slowly extending its lead over the #2 (this week, it's 17%).
  • 'Hangover', which débuts at #26, is like 'Gentleman' heavily dependent on streaming for its Hot 100 points. 90% of its points come from streaming (it enters #4 on Streaming Songs) with its 16,000 sales accounting for the rest of its points.
  • Digital track sales this pastweek totaled 21.5 million downloads, up 1 percent compared with last week (21.3 million) and down 16 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (25.6 million).
  • Year-to-date track sales are at 551.1 million, down 13 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (630.5 million).

"Fancy" continues its Hot 100 command aided by its coronation on Radio Songs (2-1). The track surges by 7 percent to 145 million in all-format audience, according to Nielsen BDS. Azalea becomes the first female rapper to lead the list since Shawnna topped the Dec. 6, 2003, tally as featured on Ludacris' "Stand Up." Azalea is the first lead female artist to rule Radio Songs since Lil' Kim's "Magic Stick," featuring 50 Cent, reigned the week of July 5, 2003. The only other Radio Songs No. 1s by female rappers: Eve's "Let Me Blow Ya Mind," featuring Gwen Stefani (four weeks, 2001) and Lil' Kim's "Lady Marmalade," with Christina Aguilera, Mya and P!nk (six weeks, 2001).

Go Iggy :cheer:

I didn't even think PSY would make the Hot 100. Good for him.

Clean Slaydit slaying.

Jamie N Commons should be in purple! Another Brit to make a (tiny) splash. Finally relevant 2 years after he was the token complete flop on the 'Sound of' list ~

Guessing that MAGIC! song could be #1 soon, would not mind seeing that.

'Rude' should take over on digital songs next week but Iggy has a decent lead on radio (even with MAGIC! gaining a bit faster) and a huge lead on streaming. 3-4 weeks till they overtake, maybe?

Iggy is still comfortably leading in streams and I think she will continue to have higher AI for a few more weeks. So even if sales slow down, Fancy will still be at number 1 regardless for at least a few more weeks.

Happy that Boom Clap is making an impact on Hot 100!!!! Looks like Jlo's First Love has officially tanked since it didn't make past Bubbling Under. I wonder if her latest radio gains would change that, but very doubtful. Tove Lo is doing well in the US also. The biggest surprise would have to be MKTO's Classic making Top 20. I like that song, but it's over a year old now, having already peaked in Top 10/20 in NZ and Australia.

Agreed, I think she will get another month. And I think it's pretty clear at this stage that Ariana won't be getting #1 with 'Problem', which is very unlucky for her but reminds me of 'We Can't Stop'. Very big hit unlucky to be released while a bigger one was occupying the top spot ('Fancy' in this case, 'Blurred Lines' in Miley's).

Or Maroon 5 with Payphone which was blocked by Gotye and Carly Rae Jepsen in 2012. Though if there is any pattern, Maroon 5 managed to be number 1 for their next single One More Night (9 weeks) and Miley managed a number 1 single on Hot 100 with Wrecking Ball (3 weeks, non-consecutive). So, if Ariana comes with a stronger follow-up, maybe she will be able to do that.

Another interesting fact, New Zealand gave Miley her first ever official number 1 with We Can't Stop while Ariana also got her career-first number 1 in NZ with Problem. Fancy also was in the top position in NZ before US Billboard, giving Charli XCX her first number 1 single in that country (when counting featured artist credits), though she did have a number 1 before in other countries for I Love It (also as featured). Iggy managed her two first number 1 singles there back-to-back as featured (Problem) then lead solo (Fancy).

I always thought Iggy Izelia was a huge flop and was complaining she didn't get to do Ratchet with GaGa?

So it was a surprise for me to see her snatch the Beatles' record!!

So Happy for Enrique getting that top 40 ! He did it, and with a Spanish single, that's not what he was thinking when he made the album for sure hehe

Wasn't that Azalea Banks?

I'm a bit confused as to how he's done it. His airplay is decent (41m AI) but his sales aren't spectacular (#117 + #146 + #459 on iTunes). Still, it's nice to see a Spanish song doing well, even if the top version on iTunes is the English one. And the song is doing extremely well on Latin radio, double the AI of the current #2.

I know I'm not Iggy's biggest fan but it is nice to see her really bringing back the popularity of the female rapper like this. It's absolutely crazy to think she's only the third female rapper to get a radio #1 (that isn't a featuring on someone else's song), and it's been 11 years since the last one before her. I really hope she can compound this success and open doors for other female rappers, though I'm doubtful on the latter part.
