June 18, 201411 yr Author Chart HighlightsJack White's "Lazaretto" debuts at #1 having sold 137,732, approx the same figure as his previous album "Blunderbuss" (137,554).Vinyl sales accounted for 40k of "Lazaretto's" total, the largest weekly sale for a vinyl record in the Soundscan era. The previous vinyl record holder was Pearl Jam's "Vitalogy", which sold 34k in its debut week in 1994 ("Vitalogy" was released on vinyl first, with the CD & cassette release following a fortnight later)."Lazaretto" is also the biggest selling vinyl album of the year so far, with Arctic Monkeys' "AM" trailing in 2nd (23k) and Beck's "Morning Phase" in 3rd (21k). Jack's vinyl sales alone would have been enough for a #4 debut on the Billboard 200.This week's album sales were 4.6 million - up +2% on last week but down -12% compared with same week last year. YTD stands at 112 million - down -15% on same point last year.
June 18, 201411 yr Author What's with the vinyl resurgence for this one album? It had lots of interesting features apparently, like vinyl playing from inside to outside on side A, hidden track under the label, all 3 speeds available, etc.

June 19, 201411 yr I only just noticed that Teenage Dream spent its 181st week on the chart this week. That places it in a tie for 9th/10th in the longest charting albums by female artists in the chart's history: Rank, Album Title, Artist, Weeks 1. Tapestry, Carole King - 312 2. Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift - 275 3. Come Away With Me, Norah Jones - 241 4. Shepherd Moons, Enya - 238 5. Fearless, Taylor Swift - 219 6. Some Hearts, Carrie Underwood - 214 7. 19, Adele - 197 8. Nick Of Time, Bonnie Raitt - 185 9/10. Knockers Up!, Rusty Warren - 181 9/10. Teenage Dream, Katy Perry - 181 Very impressive and I can see it outright grabbing 8th at least. I hope it can cross the 200 week mark but with it dropping 153-177 this week, I won't hold my breath. She needs a new single, or promo, or something :P
