Posted July 12, 201411 yr 3sHMCRaS3ao One of this years' summer blockbuster movies, the follow up to The Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, which surprisingly was rather good, judging by the trailers the new movie looks just amazing as the first but even better. None of the original cast from Rise... appear in this movie, apart from Andy Serkis as Caesar. The movie goes out on general release from 17 July. I've always been a fan of the Planet Of The Apes franchise which dates back to the old movies with Charlton Heston and the short lived TV series even a cartoon series was made, the Tim Burton revival is really best forgotten.
July 14, 201411 yr Seeing it in like 10 minutes (perks etc...). My most anticipated film of this year! So excited!!!
July 16, 201411 yr Brilliant sequel! Very, very happy with it and it didn't disappoint. The CGI and attention to detail on the apes this time around is phenomenal!
July 17, 201411 yr Author I never thought a sequel could be so good as this. Some great acting from the apes at the start and after 15 mins or so after, the Humans appear, so brilliant done. Out of all the big summer movies release this year, this movie gets top marks. As far as I know there is a third movie on the cards, but not sure if it could be the last.
July 22, 201410 yr Yes, I'll add the "it's a good film" comment too. It doesn't especially take sides, which is great, though the apes get more sympathy, the end brought tears to my eyes, and the overall philosophy that there are good people who try to do what's right and care, amongst the bitterness and hatred, is one I believe in. I preferred it to the previous, oh, 4 Apes films, best one since Escape From The Planet Of The Apes. 7/10
July 26, 201410 yr Do I need to have seen the previous film? not really: the film explains the situation at the beginning, and refers back to previous film events during the film. Should be fine... B-)
July 26, 201410 yr Thanks, I may see this on holiday next week but have no way of seeing the previous film before then.
July 26, 201410 yr This was a pretty good movie actually, despite my expectations it'd be just a big action piece. Loved that both sides had sympathetic characters and oh my Blue Eyes was such a cute CGI chimp. The scene that got shown on an advert during the World Cup was every bit as creepy second time round though.
August 25, 201410 yr I watched this movie at the cinema two days ago. I watched the "Rise of the Planet Of Apes" three years ago and I didn't want to miss this film for anything. The first movie had a very interesting plot, nice direction and James Franco was incredible with his role. I really felt disappointed when I knew that he didn't take part in the new film. His character played a catalytic role in the development of the story. However, in the "Dawn of The Planet of Apes" there are amazing visual and sound effects, a well-written scipt and the performance of monkeys literally "steal the show". This happens because people have a minor role in the film. That's why, the producers choosed less popular actors (apart form Gary Oldman). Matt Reeves is the director of the movie and he did an excellent job in my opinion. I have watched two of his films so far which are "Cloverfield" and "Let Me In". I realised that he has improved his way of directing. I remember that he shook so much the camera in "Cloverfield" but it wasn't a bad film though. "Dawn of the Planet of Apes" has also stunning scenes and the cinematography is simply the best!!! The processing of colour is eye candy for the viewers. I'm sure that "Dawn of the Planet of Apes" will have some nominations in the upcoming Oscar (Certainly in the categories of technical Awards). I feel that "Dawn of he Planet of Apes" is the best blockbuster of this summer. It had a strong beginning in the Box Office although it's the first time since 2002 that the month of July fell short of $1 billion (based on Box Office Mojo). It has earned thrice its budget and it's very successful in many countries all around the world. However, I don't agree with its Summer realease. This movie would be suitable for the Autumn Season and I think that it would have had even better earnings that it has now. It has already many fans and it has a high average score in IMDB (8.1). Personally, I will give it more than a 9.5 because it was a very difficult achievement which it managed to be a winner at the big screen!! I'm looking forward to the next film..
