July 25, 201410 yr Author 127 Storm Queen feat. Damon C. Scott 'Look Right Through (MK Remix)' (30) NEW ENTRY they look right through -> Thermo (13) One of my favourites of last year, it was a UK #1 hit and received 87 plays from myself. The vocal is on point but more importantly are the deep house vibes from MK who makes the song the what it is. The bassline in particular is really well done. 9c3EQhtf9-U 126 Matrix & Futurebound feat. Max Marshall 'Control' (30) NEW ENTRY i don't wanna lose control -> jsliv (16) This was a song I didn't expect to get much love, but qualified for the semi-finals it did. Its being recent probably helped it, having peaked at #7 early this year. If I were to chose which of their songs was the best it would be All I Know, but this is good too. None of their other songs made the countdown. CWYeGHETCSI
July 25, 201410 yr Author 125 Daft Punk 'Around The World' (31) DOWN 97 {28-125} around the world -> Chez Wombat (16) Dropping 97 places from last year is Daft Punk's Around The World. A very large drop but nothing compared to The Source's 'You Got The Love' which dropped from #10 to outside the top 150. Anyway, it's a fun repetitive house song. Just enjoy it and don't try to count how many times they say Around The World (it's 144 or 80 depending on whether you're listening to the full version or the radio edit, thanks google!) s9MszVE7aR4 124 Alex Gaudino feat. Kelly Rowland 'What A Feeling' (32) NEW ENTRY what a feeling -> AaronTM (16) Well this isn't as good as the last song I just reviewed. But with Buzzjack being Buzzjack, of course we were going to get some pop singers gone dance in the countdown. As a song it's not bad but it feels very generic. Especially the lyrics which is basically your average cliché falling in love song. Gaudino's earlier song I'm In Love did the job of this song better. D3skLy7fngs
July 25, 201410 yr Author 123 Nero 'Promises' (32) NEW ENTRY promises -> Ultraviolence (13) Nero's only entry in the countdown is their 2011 #1 hit Promises. Lead vocalist Alana always delivers and the production is brilliant too, with its dubstep influences which set it apart from all the other dance-pop that was dominating that year. llDikI2hTtk 122 Everything But The Girl 'Wrong (Todd Terry Remix)' (33) NEW ENTRY cause I was wrong -> AH Gold (16) Missing does this song much better, that's all I need to say about it really. Quite nice though. Z3_H7dwWdP0
July 26, 201410 yr Author 121 Inna 'Sun Is Up' (33) NEW ENTRY sun is up, move ya body -> Ryan (17) Inna's highest entry this year, and this one people actually voted for. But not many, hence the low position. This is a very summery song but I find that compared to Mr Saxobeat, which was released around the same time, it's not the best of its type. It did somehow make #15 in 2011 though and I got into it. VNfFTuIk-dQ 120 Culture Beat 'Mr. Vain' (35) NEW ENTRY cause I was wrong -> JackJones (15) A #1 hit in 1993, this sounds very similar to Rhythm Is A Dancer, except it's more eurodancey. It's a good tune though, but RIAD is much better for me. cvgUdrzGNys
July 26, 201410 yr Author 119 Josh Wink 'Higher State Of Consciousness' (35) NEW ENTRY higher state of consciousness -> AH Gold (15) Acid house represent! I'm not too familiar with this song but it sounds very good, nice to see it here alongside other 90s classics. We don't get much of this sound in house these days, although Armin and Moguai did make songs influenced by it this year, Ping Pong and ACIIID respectively. 0f7cylz6tl4 118 Avicii feat. Dan Tyminski 'Hey Brother' (35) NEW ENTRY hey brother, there's an endless road to rediscover -> Thermo (16) Wait a minute. Hey Brother is seriously this low? This is the first of six Avicii entries anyhow, including 4 in the top 50. I like to think I've helped by basically giving Avicii free promo for the last few years on Buzzjack. This song is very good imo, but it is quite love/hate (see Avicii rate) so it's not too surprising to see it not go far in the countdown. Starting off with just the guitar and vocals, it progresses into a big drop which has a real instrument playing the melody of it, which is a nice change from the usual use of synthesisers. It's a brilliant song and one of his best. The song also went platinum in the UK. 6Cp6mKbRTQY
July 26, 201410 yr Author 117 Swedish House Mafia 'Greyhound' (35) DOWN 74 {43-117} greyhound -> Thermo (17) And the good songs keep on dropping with Hey Brother and now this. Greyhound showed that SHM were putting in so much effort into their collaborative project, and as the only song of theirs without an official vocal mix, it stands out in their collection. I love the way the song builds, especially the middle section where the melody changes before the main tune comes back in and it drops hard. It's a very club friendly song too and works in any progressive house set. PDboaDrHGbA 116 Katy B feat. Ms Dynamite 'Lights On' (36) NEW ENTRY i keep on moving with the lights on -> Riser (14) Oh this is a bit of a letdown. After Ms B released Katy On A Mission I was expecting good things from her. Then came this piece of averageness which I never really got into. The subject matter of "keep the music going in da club" is something which Rihanna did better, plus Ms Dynamite's part seems pointless. 2NNQxN448Tk
July 26, 201410 yr Author 115 2 Unlimited 'No Limit' (36) NEW ENTRY there's no limit -> Insomnio (14) Well this is pretty good. 'There's no limit' sounds a bit cliché but when it's set to a stomping beat it gets me going. RkEXGgdqMz8 114 Basement Jaxx feat. Kele Le Roc 'Romeo' (36) DOWN 36 {78-114) u used 2 b ma romeo -> Jester (16) Nice song here. Beat is catchy and it's a nice mix of pop and house which would probably still do well in the chart today. It was released in 2000 and peaked at #6. x2wUbgAAydY
July 26, 201410 yr 'Sun Is Up' is quite poor by Inna's standards at the time, honestly! She had a really wonderful run of singles which that was part of but it certainly wasn't up there with any of her other UK singles up to that point, nor 'Love'. It was however better than anything that came after :( 'Lights On' is possibly still my favourite Katy B song.
July 27, 201410 yr Author 113 Vengaboys 'We're Going To Ibiza' (37) NEW ENTRY whoa, we're going to ee-beezza -> Doug (18) This actually made the semi-final  This is really awful but in a hilarious way. It's kinda like the 90s version of Flying The Flag with the whole airline pilot speaking thing, and it's just as tacky as that was. MXXRHpVed3M 112 Chordashian 'Cold Nights' (38) NEW ENTRY cold nights -> Harve (17) Now this is better. The first appearance of Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness in remix form which was a BJSC entry for dance forum mod ketalina. It's different to the Cedric Gervais version in that it's house rather than progressive, and it doesn't have much singing. Well worth a listen. hZf_xexzN74
July 27, 201410 yr Author 111 Bomfunk MC's 'Freestyler' (38) NEW ENTRY freestyler -> Cal (14) Another song I'm not very familiar with, this one mixes drum n' bass with Finnish hip hop and the result is quite good. ymNFyxvIdaM 110 Toyboy & Robin 'Jaded' (39) NEW ENTRY jaded -> ketalina (20) And another ketalina fave appears! This was in BJSC and did well, scoring 12 points from myself and going top 3. It's just really good house and it doesn't try to be anything else. Worth a listen if you haven't heard it already. July 27, 201410 yr Author 109 ATB feat. Yolanda Rivera 'Don't Stop' (40) DOWN 36 {73-109} don't stop -> gooddelta (14) Well this is a beautifully produced song. The guitar melody works so well alongside the laid-back trance beats, and we even get a piano section in the middle  The vocals are unnecessary but don't take anything away from the song as a whole, which is an outstanding trance record and the best in ATB's collection for me. Yes that includes 9PM. The song is very unique in terms of trance hits too as it doesn't follow the same formula as so many other songs (Gouryella, Carte Blanche, Sandstorm etc.) which are all good but I like the subtlety of this one compared to the loud pulsing synths of so many other trance songs. DgvePeDIt3Y 108 DVBBS & Borgeous 'Tsunami' (40) NEW ENTRY tsunami, jump! -> JackJones (18) Another great song appears. And what a contrast to Don't Stop. This one literally comes at you like a tsunami with its pumping bass and simple melody when it drops. And it wastes no time with the buildup, the song just gets to its USP which is the drop without worrying about making an impression there, which I also like. The club mix for this song is only 4 minutes, which is quite short for an extended mix. QqVEOft3N0c
July 27, 201410 yr Author the shocking thing about Jaded being so high is it managed to make it with only 2 votes, which happened to be a 20 and a 19. I would have voted for it too but the quality was so high so lots of songs had to miss out on Thermo points.
July 27, 201410 yr Author 107 Eric Prydz 'Pjanoo' (40) DOWN 59 {48-107} pjanoo -> Ultraviolence (14) First appearance for living and active house legend Eric Prydz comes with his #2 instrumental hit Pjanoo. It features a piano as its leading instrument, so of course I'm gonna love it. I also love how the song revolves around the one single motif that the piano plays, talk about simple but effective. All of Eric's productions are done really well and this is no exception. llfNRGQ7Tlg 106 Bodyrox feat. Luciana 'Yeah Yeah (D. Ramirez Remix)' (44) DOWN 57 {49-106} i could teach you a thing or two, yeah yeah! -> JSG (15) With Luciana having so much attitude in this, I'm already hooked. But with it being electro-house, I'm down with it even further. So much goodness. xOBGefhRqs0
July 27, 201410 yr Don't Stop  I bought ATB's album on import in July 1999 (I was such a fan that I was willing to spend £16 of my 12-year-old self's pocket money on it!) and Don't Stop immediately stood out to me. I still rank the album in my all time top ten and it's my favourite dance album ever by miles. Shout out to My Dream, Too Much Rain, Sunburn too, the other 10/10's on the album besides 9PM (Till I Come) and this. I split my listening time and love of that track between the gorgeous original softer version posted above and the harder UK mix, by X-Cabs. Both are flawless. f08zEsuV1GM
July 27, 201410 yr Author 105 Moloko 'Sing It Back' (45) NEW ENTRY sing it back to me -> AaronTM (18) Not much to say about this. Well it's a very nice funky house tune, a good listen and the chorus is very catchy. rtZAzh0TSAo 104 Shaft 'Mucho Mambo (Sway)' (45) NEW ENTRY make me sway -> jsliv (19) Another okay dance track. I'd probably appreciate this more if I were a music listener at the time but there is better from that year. IXykDIiCEl4
