Umi's Chart Highlights

  • 5 Seconds of Summer and their eponymous début start with 259k this week, giving them their first #1 and the fourth largest sales week so far this year. It is notably almost double what their introductory EP sold earlier this year, and similarly large in comparison to One Direction's initial sales of "Up All Night".
  • 5SOS are the first Australian act to ever début at #1 with their début album and marks the largest opening for an Australian act's album in the Soundscan era. They are only the second Australian act to hit #1 this year, following Sia just a couple of weeks ago, but they are the first Australian group to hit #1 since AC/DC did so in 2008.
  • Meanwhile, "Frozen" rises 5-2 just because it can. It has now spent 31 weeks top 5 which again, is the longest time spent top 5 since good old Adele with "21".
  • Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending July 27) totaled 4.3 million units, down 2 percent compared with the sum last week (4.4 million) and down 9 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013(4.9 million).
  • Year-to-date album sales stand at 137.8 million, down 15 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (161.2 million).

Great sales for 5SOS, congrats to them for the #1. Already a bigger first week than Ed Sheeran's, which is very impressive, and of course they comfortably passed Up All Night's first week too.

** 20 La Roux - Trouble in Paradise - 11,552 (NEW)

Not bad considering there was no hit single.

Yeah, top 20 for La Roux is good. Their début was never a huge seller anyway and considering it was 5 years ago, this is about as good as things could have been!

Lots of sales this week.

Looks like you need less than 2,000 to make the Top 200

53 158 Disclosure - Settle - this is a stupidly big drop, wonder what happened there.

When J. Lo is still top 200 you know sales are low.
