August 5, 201410 yr I tend to forget who the winners are, Ive already forgotten the name who won this year, whereas with x factor I don't. This might be something to do with it if others have the same problem.. God I wish I could forget  Jermaine Jackman. He was a quite deep voiced soul/R&B singer, I found him to be awfully unlistenable. Just one problem is the fact the BBC don't even bother to support artists from their own TV show, another is that the properly marketable artists don't win - Tyler James, Leah McFall and Christina Marie for example. I think people probably see it as a singing competition, not a competition to find a popstar (although I wouldn't say Jermaine had a better voice than Christine or Andrea had a better voice than Leah), The Voice don't even bother with a proper winners' single or anything!
August 5, 201410 yr It seems like the least commercially friendly artist out of the top 3 has won every year on The Voice - the instantly forgettable Leanne winning over Tyler and Bo who both seemed like potential successes, then Andrea and Jermain both won despite their tracks on iTunes selling far less than those by Leah/Mike and Christina/Sally. Jermain definitely had the same 'instantly forgettable' feel to him as Leanne too, I didn't really pay attention to series 3 (although my dad watches it so I'm kind of aware of what happens) and while I had a vague idea of who the other 2 were I had no idea he even existed until the final and I'd forgotten him again by practically the next week. I don't see his album doing much better than Leanne's.
August 5, 201410 yr 'The Voice' is also cursed in France  - The 3 'winners' have all flopped hard. Season 1 - Stéphan Rizon, Both singles missed the Top 150 and his debut album peaked at #36 Season 2 - Yoann Fréget, Debut single peaked at #116 and the 3 follow ups all charted lower, Album peaked at #21 Season 3 - Kendji Girac, Debut single became the highest charting yet from a winner of 'The Voice' in France peaking at #32, Two follow up scraped the Top 100, Album peaked at #44 Randomly one of the finalists Fréro Delavega from the last season had a #1 album and their debut single went Top 20 - It seems each Season a runner up or finalist has much more success than the actual winner. Expect one of these to be French entrant in Eurovision soon and get somewhere between 22nd-26th in the final :D
August 8, 201410 yr No, it will not. Neither, from the point of view of a career, will the X-Factor where winners rarely get past their first LP. Surely these programmes can't have too long to run?
August 8, 201410 yr No, it will not. Neither, from the point of view of a career, will the X-Factor where winners rarely get past their first LP. Surely these programmes can't have too long to run? 'Rarely' is not exactly 'never' though - to be fair the X Factor has produced a few acts that have had significant success for multiple albums, notably One Direction and Olly Murs, and it's too early to say yet that neither of them will continue to have a long lasting career. The latter in particular could easily remain a big name for a while to come a la Will Young.
