However i feel like it makes things awkward for Una and the Saturdays since they have such close link to Cheryl because of showbiz and similar careers. I mean, his wife opened for Girls aloud which started off their career.

If you actually listen to Cheryl's critique then you will notice she very rarely comments on the vocals. However, she always offers her opinion on the performance side of things.

 

Yes, Cheryl is FAR from being the world's greatest vocalist, but her ability to be a popstar is second to none as far as I'm concerned. And after going through a similar process herself and carving a very successful 12 year career out of it, I say she's more than earned her place as a judge.
