in the new issue of the word magazine there is a thing about a band called CUD who have reformed after 12 years (on page 23) for a new compilation on Universal record.

it says they had singles caled Rich and Strange, plus also a song called purple love balloon.

 

now i put purple love balloon into youtube and nothing came up :o :lol:

 

so does anyone know about this tune? was it actually about a purple balloon or was it just filth? if the latter, did it get banned or was the innuendo tame?

I used to love Cud so I bought the new compilation and it's brilliant. Hadn't heard most of those songs for over a decade and they still sound surprisingly fresh.

 

"Purple Love Balloon" was a live favourite which started out as a B-side and was later re-recorded for single release. I must admit I always thought the title sounded rude but the lyrics sounded quite inoffensive. It wasn't banned as such, just not played during the day as none of Cud's singles were anyway despite them being quite radio-friendly. I did hear it on the Top 40 once though when it entered (and peaked) at No.27 in 1992.

It probably is rude actually.

 

The chorus goes "I'm gonna take you high in my purple love balloon" so make of that what you will :D
