New Monkeys album on the way

Arctic Monkeys have revealed that their new album could be out by January next year, with most of the songs already written.

The Sheffield-based outfit, who won the Mercurty Music Prize last week, have been working on new material for the follow-up to their hit debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.

Singer Alex Turner told the NME: "We'll do a few gigs in December, but we're going to start rehearsing on Friday (8th, last week) for the new record and we're going in next month to do some recording.

Turner added that he had written "about 13 or 14 songs, but it's in different states".

Drummer Matt Helders revealed that their second album could be out as early as January 2007, but added: "It will probably be a bit later, but you never know. I think from our point of view we could have it ready for then."

Any Comments?

Well they've said that since the first album was out so no suprises really  Probably up their with my most anticipated right now :cheer:
Great news. :D :cheer: I ain't too hopeful for a January release though. I just hope it doesn't get rushed at all but I doubt it will. ^_^
yay! looking forward to hearing new stuff from them soon :D also, good to hear that there'll be a few more gigs before the end of the year!
Will "Leave Before The Lights Come On" be included? I'm looking forward to it!

I don't know to tell the truth. I'm 99.9% sure that they won't release WPSIATWIN with LBTLCO on it. Imean the Ordinary Boys have put Nine2Five on he tracklist for their new album so I guess the Arctics could do the same, but I can't see them doing it TBH as there gonna totally change their sound for the next album, supposivly.

Yeah, they are at serious risk of falling foul of the dreaded second album "curse", like what happened to The Strokes...

Why what happened with them? Imo their second one was better and it did just about as well  At the moment I feel this album is going to be great and it should do really well too considering how many people you wouldn't think would know who they are DO so.

I don't think it'll be as big as the first album. :( But I still think it will be big. I guess the lead single will really make or break the album though.

Did you hear about that thing with the MP who said he like the Arctic Monkeys? He said he did in one of his speeches or something and then when asked whether he knew an album track he confessed he didn't know and was just saying he like the Arctics so the kids would think he was hip.

Well it's inevitable that it's not going to be AS big but it'll do well, yes. The politician was actually Gordon Brown  Also Menzies Campbell said that he knows 'Arctic Monkeys have sold more than The Beatles' er... wrong

It was Gordon Brown was it. Well I knew it was some sort of MP but I didn't know which one. Arctic Monkeys have sold more than The Beatles.  Man he's got his words mixed up real badly.
The Arctic Monkeys can never be mentioned in politics again after all this probably  officially EVERYONE knows who they are now. ^_^
Yeah some politicans try too hard to win votes. -_- and then they end up making fools of themselves. but yeah your right just about everyone knows of the arctics whether they love or hate them. ^_^

I remember reading in an interview Alex Turner saying he wishes they'd put LBTLCO on WPSIATWIN because it suited the style of the album, and would have fitted in with the rest of the singles

I hope they don't go and rush-release the second album so it feels half-finished. I think they should just take their time with it and try to make it as successful a follow-up as they can. But I agree with the earlier comments that WPSIATWIN is gonna be a tough album to follow up easily

I think they can pull it off ;)

I remember reading that they didn't put it on there because they didn't think it fitted in with the rest.

I can't remember what was actually said but personally I think it suits the sound of WPSIATWIN. ^_^ I hope it isn't included on the new album though.
Arctics could feesibly put 'Leave Before The Lights Come On,' as a bonus track on the end of their 2nd album seeing as The Ordinary Boys are putting 'Boys Will Be Boys,' which was already a track on 'Brassbound,' as a bonus track on 'How To Get Everything You Ever Wanted In Ten Easy Steps.'

They've put Boys Will Be Boys on the next album. :o Bad move IMO. -_-
