June 1, 201510 yr There's a shocker? It's the first time I read about it. I wonder if it is Jaime or Tyrion dying, or Bran/Ricon coming back. I just assumed since episode 9 always has a big event happen. Series 1 - Ned's execution; Series 2 - Battle of Blackwater; Series 3 - Red Wedding; Series 4 - Battle at Castle Black
June 1, 201510 yr Author That was insane. Not sure they can be topped!! Been a really slow paced season, but that makes up for it.
June 2, 201510 yr That'll be the action for the season now I assume. I expect the next epsiode (or two) to be very tense and intricate trials, I can imagine the series might end with Cersei still managing to come out on top, killing those people she said she would for throwing her in the cell and things ending very badly for Margery and Loras. I worry. (i've only read books 1 - 3 so have no idea, this is just speculation)
June 2, 201510 yr That'll be the action for the season now I assume. Possibly but Stannis will be at Winterfell very soon and do not underestimate the fighting pits... Plus, they normally devote a whole episode to a large battle sequence which is where a signifigant chunk of the seasons budget goes , yet this weeks was condensed down to 20 minutes and whilst still clearly costly it will have been cheaper than Blackwater or Castle Black for example. The show has an increased budget again this year but most episodes have not shown an obvious increase in spend. Therefore they may well have spent it on another set piece although I don't expect a full episode. Plus no-one important's died yet Edited June 2, 201510 yr by Severin
June 2, 201510 yr Just caught up on last night's episode, that was the action I've been waiting for all season, all I'm going to say it was amazing, we were due for the white walkers to return. I'm guessing the last 2 episodes will be based on the trail, not yet read the novel for this season, I've read the others. Not sure when the last book is going to be released yet probably at the beginning of 2016
June 2, 201510 yr That's easily the best episode this show has had since... I'm not sure actually. Possibly as far back as the Red Wedding. Everything at Hardhome was pure gold, the anticipation of dread as the attack builds up was spot on, and it was actually really quite scary to watch. The showrunners deserve a big round of applause for that. And then all the individual moments: a character introduced strongly and in a likeable way and then immediately dying, in possibly the creepiest way imaginable with DEAD KIDS, I was convinced Dolorous Edd was dead for a minute when he wasn't in the burning building, everything about the giant and his skeleton-cracking ways, Jon's sword killing the Walker. Amazing amazing stuff and a joy to watch. And then even the non-Jon Snow scenes were brilliant, Tyrion and Daenerys are going to make a pretty excellent pairing if those scenes of dialogue are anything to go by. Cersei's sudden descent into patheticness is rather pitiable. Arya's story seems to be going somewhere finally too, at least somewhere slightly further than the rest of this season. And Sansa finding out her brothers were still alive was a very powerful moment and would have been very notable had it not been in this episode.

I can't see Stannis taking down Winterfell, but not sure Ramsay and 20 men will be able to hold him off. Also for the budget, while I agree it wasn't as big a set piece - surely the increased CGI must have cost a lot? The way that King walker looked at Jon Snow was creepy though, think they're pretty pooed now they've lost the dragon glass mind.

CGI isn't cheap, but it's cheaper per character than paying an extra as long as the shoot runs fairly well. If there's a ton of takes it mounts up to pay people. As for the Dragon Glass, Stannis pointed out to Sam a couple of weeks ago that Dragonstone is full of the stuff. There's a whole bunch of Valyrian steel swords around... Well 3 or 4, so enough to take on the Night King and the White Walkers if in the right hands and Drogon will sort out those pesky wights with a blast of halitosis... Possibly. And to end the story Littlefinger takes the Iron Throne on a devastated world... Possibly
June 8, 201510 yr Okay this ep left me literally speechless, my mom actually came into my room after I was done and had to ask me the same question 10 times before I could answer. I think this season has officially put GoT in my top 5 series EVER and this is coming from someone who despised the first 2.5 seasons.
June 8, 201510 yr Even better than last week for me - perhaps because the action last week was in the storyline I've always cared least about, whereas this time it was Dany's. Guessing maybe next week will focus on King's Landing (maybe exclusively? Depends how soon Stannis makes a move on Ramsay's turf) so that's Dany done for the season? A glorious exit in any case, she'll always be a woman who cares about no one but her dragons so seeing her abandon everyone was very fitting. Also a tough episode for children - the burning scene was quite tough to take, Tara Fitzgerald was such good casting for the mother's part.
June 8, 201510 yr Shereen's scene was very tough to watch. I think that alone was enough for the 'episode 9 shock'.
June 8, 201510 yr Shereen's scene was very tough to watch. I think that alone was enough for the 'episode 9 shock'. I cried rivers at that scene and then Dany's scene annihilated me.
June 8, 201510 yr I'm still undecided if they went too far or not with it. Either way, I hate Stannis even more now and hopefully Ser Davos can turn on him when he finds out what happened.
June 8, 201510 yr Oh my, Shireen's death was horrible. Truly heartbreaking :( Nice to see some dragon action but I did laugh a bit when she flew off on the dragon. Genuinely had a fear that either Daenerys or Tyrion might die considering the episode number! I agree that that's probably it for Daenerys this series. People are suggesting she may have contracted Greyscale from touching Jorah! Not sure where Ayra's storyline is going though, who was the man she was following, someone on her kill list?

Ser Meryn Trant. So yes, basically
June 8, 201510 yr These last two episodes have just left me so speechless, I just can't second-guess this show anymore! The death was horrible to watch, but honestly, this show does whatever it wants and killing a child and dragging out their torture might seem unthinkable, but its keeping up with their usual tone! Still, how awful, I thought Ramsay was the worst one there (guessing we'll see what happens to him next week), but now I just really want Stannis dead. The tool. Much *.* for the end battle as well, brilliant exit for Dany and great to see her Jorah & Tyrion all together briefly <3 Arya's storyline is the one I'm finding it a bit tough to follow, the scene in the brothel makes me willing that she'll kill that bloke though! June 8, 201510 yr I can't tell if the excitement and anticipation of knowing HE was coming was better than the joy and surprise when he appeared. Either way I'm VERY excited for next week, as I'm not expecting the usual episode 10 calm down this time.
June 8, 201510 yr I'm looking forward to Cersei next week if they continue to follow the book! It certainly shouldn't be uneventful.
