Legendary soul singer/songwriter Don Covay dies from a stroke aged 76

 

He had many hits as a songwriter for 60s/70s soul artists including Aretha Franklin as well as a few solo hits.

I downloaded It's Better To Have a couple of months ago and have been playing it's funky fabulousness in my car, that will be my early tribute, sadly.

Not very familar with his work, only ever heard Mercy Mercy, because Jeff Lynne recently covered it
