The gay singer gushed: “I think Wayne Rooney is totally hot — he’s so sexy. “I don’t know anything about football. I know who DAVID BECKHAM is but I think Wayne is really, really cute — totally my cup of tea.†Jake made the astonishing confession as I chatted to him in his hotel suite ahead of the band’s huge gig in London’s Trafalgar Square tonight. He is on a high because the band are enjoying their first No1 single in the UK with I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’. On top of that their new album is on course to outsell the ARCTIC MONKEYS when it hits stores on Monday. Jake, who is in a long-term relationship with partner Chris, said bandmate ANA MATRONIC thinks he is crazy to fancy the Man United striker. But he told me: “Those World Cup ads with the England flag where Wayne’s half naked I thought, ‘Gosh you’re so hot!’ “I’d rather dance with him than his girlfriend anyway.†You can just hear the chants on the terraces now — not to mention the stick Rooney will get in the Old Trafford dressing room. I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ is probably the happiest sounding song in the charts right now — its energy and enthusiasm are simply irresistible. But as I revealed in July, Jake wrote the song during a bout of depression when he was at his lowest ebb. He was on such a comedown after the success of the Scissors’ self-titled debut album he considered throwing himself into New York’s Hudson river. Jake explained to me the full reasons behind his sadness. He said: “I felt a lot of pressure to come up with a great second album. It was scary, like a voice that would nag and nag and nag. “I had butterflies in my stomach all the time and I couldn’t listen to music without having a panic attack.†Jake is one of most remarkably upbeat people I’ve ever met. Each time I’ve talked to him he’s been so high on life that it’s hard to imagine him curled up on the couch at home, refusing to go out. But that’s what happened. He explained: “I knew something was wrong because I couldn’t watch movies, read books or even listen to music. “I was no fun to be around. But thankfully my boyfriend and friends were all so patient with me that eventually I came through it.†Jake said bandmate BABYDADDY — real name SCOTT HOFFMAN — came up with the title for their No1 single but the lyrics are all about how the singer was feeling at the time. He adds: “We wanted a song that was going to make you feel good — a great pop song. “But I didn’t want to write another Filthy Gorgeous because it wouldn’t have been true to how I was feeling.†I think the new album, Ta-Dah, is going to be the biggest UK seller of the year. There is a wealth of strong, catchy pop songs on it, not to mention the beautiful ballad Land Of A Thousand Words, the band’s next single. As well as devoting himself to promoting Ta-Dah, Jake has also found time to go into the studio with his friend KYLIE MINOGUE to write songs for her new album. The pair have become very close and Jake was a tower of strength for her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. He admits he was “terrified†when she told him about her illness but insists he had faith in her strength. He says: “The news absolutely terrified me. But I told Kylie that she had so much fantastic energy and power spiritually that she was going to overcome this. “I just had absolute faith there was no way she wasn’t going to make it out the other end.†Kylie has been lined up to introduce Jake, Ana, Babydaddy, DEL MARQUIS and PADDY BOOM on stage tonight. Jake says the Pop Princess is overjoyed to be making music again following her illness. And he believes she is never given enough credit for having an amazing voice. He said: “The only two people that have a voice like Kylie’s are KATE BUSH and DOLLY PARTON. “She has an incredible voice and that is the one thing that is often overlooked.†Don't know if Roo' appreciates ;) LifeLight
