What are everyone's favourite comedies at the moment and generally through the history of TV?

 

In terms of current shows I think the comedy offerings are really weak and the continuing/returning shows are pale imitations of their former selves. Still Open all Hours has been quite good, but no where near the level of the original show. Birds of a Feather has been awful. Mrs Brown's Boys is incredibly overrated and one of the worst shows on TV, let alone comedy programme.

 

I've heard good things about Catastrophe, but I'm not actually seen that. Other that that, I can't think of any comedies which will be returning or recently aired that are actually any good. Catherine Tate's Nan show which aired a one-off has the potential to be amazing, so it's a shame they never commissioned a full series.

 

Will we ever get another classic comedy like Fawlty Towers or Only Fools and Horses? I think Miranda could if the programme ages well. It's my personal favourite comedy ever, but I think she gets quite a lot of haters.

Family Guy/The Simpsons- 2 classic American comedies

Outnumbered- Loved this so much, especially the first 3 series. The airport episode makes me laugh so much

Little Britain

Come fly with me- Absolutely adored this and have seen each episode so so many times

Some girls- I really need to catch up on the last series, I missed it :(

i really enjoyed fawlty towers. makes me laugh all the time. i must have watched the entire 2 series loads

 

only fools and horses is a classic commedy. i love some of that

 

porridge is another good one

 

as for currentish stuff, i really like out numbered. for me, it never gets old and i especially like ben (the episode in the chess tournament is hilarious)

 

i enjoyed the kevin eldon show (BBC2 for a few weeks)

though a lot will disagree, i got a lot of amusement out of the christmas specials for MRS browns boys, though the movie was a letdown

the second series was better

I love 'Episodes' and 'Friday Night Dinner'! Although I kind of watch the former more as a drama even if it does have it's funny moments. FND is HILARIOUS though! I enjoyed 'Inside No. 9' last year and that's returning for another series.

 

I saw the first two episodes of 'Catastrophe' but have forgotten to watch the rest, oops but hopefully it's still on iPlayer.

 

'Nan' was so good too, it was a shame that it stayed as a one-off.

 

Shows that are no longer on air that I loved include 'The IT Crowd' (possibly my favourite ever comedy), 'Father Ted', 'The Inbetweeners', 'Outnumbered' (for the earlier series), 'Little Britain' and 'Come Fly With Me'. I think the latter is more remembered than people realise, I often see pictures of it as memes and it was rerun on BBC Three not too long ago and everyone recognised it. Does 'Psychoville' count as a comedy too?

Gosh :o :o I can't believe I forgot about the inbetweeners and Friday night dinner- both two of my favourite ever shows let alone comedies and I have rewatched all the episodes so many times.

I love the classics, Dad's Army, Steptoe & Son, Are You Been Served, Open All Hours, Only Fools & Horses, Porridge, Bless This House, George & Mildred, Man About The House, On The Buses, Mind Your Language, The Two Ronnies, Morecambe & Wise and loads more, they don't make them like that any more. I'll just grab my coat.

There's very little to shout about on TV right now. Count Arthur Strong had its moments but was far from being a Graham Linehan classic and House of Fools is, for the most part, too stupid for its own good.

 

As for the line-up for Red Nose Day this Friday, it's never ever looked so bad.

probably 1 of the only classics i'm not familiar with

I must admit, 'Miranda' was the only comedy show of recent times I did enjoy. Felt like a proper old fashioned BBC sitcom and was so well written. My list of favourites includes (but is not limited to) the following:

 

- Ab Fab

- The Vicar of Dibley

- French & Saunders

- Smack the Pony

- Fawlty Towers

- Coupling

- As Time Goes By

- The Good Life

- Dad's Army

 

I should perhaps point out my mum and dad loved the last three, and so I have an enduring love for them duly inherited from them. Same with their love of Simon & Garfunkel and Dire Straits. I know it's not cool but the music holds the same sentimental weight with me.
