The series stars Alan Davies as detective who solves seemingly supernatural mysteries through his talent for logical deduction and understanding of illusions. Silent Witness is still growing strong with Series 18 regularly getting over 7 million viewers and gained a significant rise from 2013. The show has aired on BBC One since 1996 and focuses on a team of forensic pathology experts and their investigations. The Apprentice also saw a rise from the previous year as it celebrated it's 10th series with 20 candidates, four more than normal. This led to many weeks featuring multiple firings including one week where all three that were brought back were fired. The series was moved to Autumn to avoid clashes with the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games. The series saw a number of controversies, the most notable being skeleton-gate where a poor description led to a paper skeleton making the team automatically loose. Cilla was a one-off drama series focussing on the life of Cilla Black and starring Sheridan Smith. It documented Cilla's breakthrough, from performing at the Cavern Club to her music releases and then her first TV work. The drama was one of last year's best and Sheridan played the role excellently. Just missing out on the Top 10 is The Voice UK which aired it's third series last year and increased it's ratings, largely down to the fact that Jessie J was no longer on the 'coaching' panel. Danny 'from the Script' also left which led to superstar Ricky Wilson and some Australian called Kylie taking their places. This didn't prevent a winner that lacked star quality/potential however, in fact, it possibly generated the most random winner ever.
March 20, 201510 yr Author 09-10 http://www.deepground.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/death-paradise-staffel-3-foto.jpg 09 | 15 | Death in Paradise - 8.46m | Highest = 8.84m (Ep. 5/8), Lowest = 8.04m (Ep. 3/8) 10 | 08 | Coronation Street - 8.22m | Highest = 10.65m (20th Jan), Lowest = 6.10m (7th Dec) The highest rated soap is Coronation Street, a soap I haven't watched for years. Last year, the show introduced it's first Muslim family, the Nazirs as well as Les Dennis. However, it also saw the departure of some well loved characters, most notably Hayley Cropper who ended her life in emotional scenes as well as Tina McIntyre who was murdered. Death in Paradise seems to improve with each series, managing to climb into the Top 10 last year following Ben Miller's departure from the series. Kris Marshall took his place but the format changed very little. The huge appeal comes from the fact that it's very lighthearted and not too challenging to watch, allowing viewers some form of escapism after a hard day at week. The easiness to dip in and out of the series is highlight by the fifth episode being the highest rated despite no higher profile guest stars when compared to other episodes.
March 20, 201510 yr There should be big rises for Silent Witness and The Voice for this year. Both have done remarkably well to be up on last year's figures. I'm sure Corrie will crash from the top 10 to around the same level as EastEnders.
March 22, 201510 yr Author 07-08 http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03045/x-factor-main_3045087b.jpg 07 | 06 | Britain's Got Talent - 9.25m | Highest = 11.84m (Ep. 1/18: Auditions 1), Lowest = 6.75m (Ep. 17/18: Semi Final 5 Results) 08 | 07 | The X Factor - 8.65m | Highest = 10.09m (Ep. 1/34: Auditions 1), Lowest = 6.81m (Ep. 9/34: Bootcamp 1) Out of the Top 8, 6 were there last year and these two Simon Cowell reality shows each drop a place where they previously battled it out for the top spot. Yes, despite all the hype, Simon and Cheryl's return (along with the addition of Mel Beh) couldn't help to increasing ratings for The X Factor, instead they continued to drop and the final didn't even manage to be the highest rated episode. I suppose there are only so many times you can hear someone singing Sam Smith/Ed Sheeran or even hear them singing their songs. It was a very male dominated year, helped by poor choices made by Cheryl in her Girls category as well as the gimmicky 8 member boyband. Let's see if the show is able to produce the stars that the previous series did not for the first time since Series 4. Britain's Got Talent also failed to reignite the massive success that it previously enjoyed but it still managed a very respectable 9 million+ figures which suggests that it is still here to stay, especially due to ITV's lack of success elsewhere. Looking at the list of contestants, none of them have really enjoyed any lasting memorable success. Bars & Melody have one hit single to their name and beat off Madonna with their second single in the all important physical singles chart!!1!, Darcey Oake had a TV show that did terribly in the ratings and Collabro did have a midly successful album, reaching Gold certification but I doubt this will stretch much further with their other releases.
March 22, 201510 yr I'm more surprised about Britain's Got Talent plummeting, not that I've watched it since about 2010! The X Factor's drop is expected though. I'm really not sure at all what's still to come, all I can think of is the football!
March 22, 201510 yr Sporting events aren't included :kink: Well I'm sorry but that's a bit...silly?! I'd understand not including Match of the Day and whatnot but to not even calculate an average of all the World Cup games broadcast on BBC/ITV and either combine them or list them by channel is lazy - it was the most-watched event of last year!
March 22, 201510 yr Author Well I'm sorry but that's a bit...silly?! I'd understand not including Match of the Day and whatnot but to not even calculate an average of all the World Cup games broadcast on BBC/ITV and either combine them or list them by channel is lazy - it was the most-watched event of last year! I didn't calculate this btw but it's mainly to measure TV series - sporting events are a bit different when comparing average ratings. It's not as though people are likely to watch the whole thing ie every match
March 22, 201510 yr I think it's fair enough to exclude things like the world cup - it's not really a tv show as such, more a football that happens to be on tv. Match of the Day probably should be included if it hasn't as that is a tv series about football... Anyway, ecstatic that GBBO is still to come *.*
March 22, 201510 yr I didn't calculate this btw but it's mainly to measure TV series - sporting events are a bit different when comparing average ratings. It's not as though people are likely to watch the whole thing ie every match Oh okay - well I apologise - but I still think it should be factored in!
March 22, 201510 yr Still to come I imagine will be GBBO, Sherlock, I'm A Celeb, Strictly and I'm not sure what the other two will be?
March 22, 201510 yr Author Do the final few episodes of Miranda count? No as there needs to be a minimum of 3 episodes!
March 22, 201510 yr I was just about to say "but there were 3 episodes..." but then I realised one was probably on New Years Day?
March 22, 201510 yr Author I was just about to say "but there were 3 episodes..." but then I realised one was probably on New Years Day? There was only one episode broadcast in 2014, the one on Christmas Day! The next episode was on New Years Day 2015 and the previous one was in Jan 2013, the end of the third series!
March 22, 201510 yr Still to come I imagine will be GBBO, Sherlock, I'm A Celeb, Strictly and I'm not sure what the other two will be? Call the Midwife and Downton Abbey?
March 26, 201510 yr Author 05-06 05 | 03 | I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! - 9.64m | Highest = 11.61m (Ep. 1/21), Lowest = 6.81m (Ep. 21/21) 06 | 01 | Downton Abbey - 9.63m | Highest = 10.31m (Ep. 7/8), Lowest = 7.24m (Christmas Special) 2013's number one programme was Downton Abbey but in 2014 it slipped to just below the Top 5. It was confirmed today that the upcoming series would also be it's last. The show is still well received amongst critics and internationally, as well as a strong performance here of course, but it felt as if the show was coming to it's natural end as it felt the consequence of hurrying through the years in it's early series. It should be noted that the Christmas special, normally a big scorer in the ratings was actually the series' lowest rating performance. I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! returned for it's fourteenth (!!!) series last year with it still managing to perform strongly in the ratings despite little changes in it's format. It looked as though Gemma Collins would be the star of this year's show with her constant moaning and crying but she ended up walking after just three days in camp. Kendra Wilkinson then took over that role however. The series also saw Edwina talk about her sex life, Jimmy Bullard messing around and Carl Fogarty ultimately win the show. It should be noted that the lowest rated episode actually counts the 'Coming Out' show as part of the series and it was not the final that was the lowest rated.
