The series has grown with every series and this latest growth was boosted by the show's move to BBC One. The show about baking has also become one of the most talked about shows and #bingate, in which a baked Alaska was put in the bin as it had been taken out of the fridge by another contestant, resulted headline news! It seems as though the show is unstoppable, could it reach the top spot next year? Indeed, the final gained the highest audience out of any of the other shows in the Top 40, and was only beaten by England's match against Uruguay in the World Cup. The nation truly loves baking it seems (as well as a bit of innuendo of course). The twelfth series of Strictly Come Dancing saw TV veteran Bruce Forsyth leave the series, he would only return for special episodes, this resulted in Claudia Winkleman taking over. She was a natural choice after previously co-hosting the results show with Tess Daly and it meant another female presenting duo on primetime, not forgetting Mel & Sue of course. The series this year saw a few Buzzjack favourites as Pixie Lott, Frankie Bridge http://i59.tinypic.com/znst9h.png, a Radio 1 DJ in Scott Mills as well as Jake Wood off Eastenders. Craig's favouritism over Caroline Flack saw her win and take the crown away from Frankie Bridge however so that Frankie could live up to her band's name of flopping.
April 1, 201510 yr Author 01-02 01 | RE | Sherlock - 11.82m | Highest = 12.72m (Ep. 1/3), Lowest = 11.38m (Ep. 2/3) 02 | 04 | Call the Midwife - 10.42m | Highest = 11.35m (Ep. 1/8), Lowest = 9.41m (Ep. Christmas Special) So it wasn't even close :o (although Sherlock did have the advantage of only having 3 episodes!). Call the Midwife manages a climb to number 2 and it should probably see a similar performance in 2015's countdown as it consistently topped the weekly ratings during this year's series. It's high ratings surprises me greatly as it rarely seems to be talked about, and it doesn't seem to have that cultural impact like other programmes in the Top 10 have. 2014 saw Jessica Raine, who played the main character Jenny, leave the show but the character's presence will still be there in the form of Vanessa Redgrave's narration. The show focuses on a group of midwives in the 1950s/60s. The third series of Sherlock was therefore 2014's highest rating programme and it debuted on New Year's Day 2015. Viewers were eager to know how Sherlock survived the fall from two years previously but, while offering a number of (bizarre) suggestions, the show never actually answered the question. Instead, the series focused on Sherlock and Watson's relationship which was in greater turmoil due to Watson becoming engaged and Sherlock hiding the truth that he was still alive. It often felt like the third series had the mysteries of each episode as more of a sidenote, focusing even greater on the characters than the previous two series. With there only being three episodes every two years, it was therefore a bit disheartening to watch at times.

April 1, 201510 yr Not to knock the fantastic ratings of Sherlock, but its average over 3 episodes is less impressive than something that was aired over a good chunk of the year. Shame that Corrie's average is a million above EE despite Corrie being pretty dire aside from Hayley's final episodes and, less so, the week of Tina died and of Tracy's wedding. I can't see EE overtaking Corrie this year but hopefully its ratings will be up due to no World Cup and further great drama - if Kathy's return is handled well, that could gather some decent ratings.
April 1, 201510 yr No surprise at Sherlock. I wonder if it will rate even higher for the next series!
April 1, 201510 yr Surprised Strictly finished above Bake Off. :o Sherlock though is something that I probably should love but just can't get into and don't fully understand the hype. But woo at Moffat winning in some respect :cheer:
April 1, 201510 yr BBC One top four *_* Last year's was my least favourite series of Sherlock to date and I stopped watching Call the Midwife after maybe the second series. So a slightly disappointing top two overall for me. Thanks for compiling this, Rabbit Froot, some really great commentary provided despite my disapproval of excluding sporting events :P
