July 11, 201510 yr 'Eyes Open' and 'Shine' are just everything. This is my favourite album of 2015 so far with 'Shine' easily being my favourite song Basically my feelings in life. I do like 'Gold' but I'm not feeling it as much as Shine/Take Shelter/Desire single wise. I really think 'Eyes Shut' could be a massive moment for them if they released it, so hopefully it's next after 'Gold'.
July 11, 201510 yr On first listen I was not totally sold on the album but a second listen did WONDERS. Really enjoyed it that time round, each song stood out to me more. Eyes Shut and Ties are easily my favourite non-singles  Gold doesn't seem like the best choice for me for single number whatever-we're-on-now, I agree that Eyes Shut could be a big hit if it got pushed!
July 12, 201510 yr They're easily my favourite current British act and the album is just wonderful. I agree about their songs being growers as 'King' has really only clicked with me in the past week or so, amazing song  'Eyes Shut' would be a fantastic post-album single.
July 12, 201510 yr http://s17.postimg.org/9oj765zmn/image.jpg Hopefully this image on the deluxe suggests that 'Eyes Shut' is to be the next single? No shade to 'Gold' which I enjoy. I think 'Eyes Shut' would be a good change of pace in terms of their singles so far. I could see it being a top 5, so they should get it out before too many people have the album already, instead of saving it for like single 8 or 9. Edited July 12, 201510 yr by Joe.
July 12, 201510 yr While i really like 'Gold' i see it as an amalgamation of 'King' and 'Shine' and doesn't really show any diversity for them as a band. 'Eyes Shut' is a complete change of pace though and it'd be such a "stop what you're doing and LISTEN" moment if it were played & pushed on radio. Has to happen :'(
July 12, 201510 yr Definitely on board with 'Eyes Shut' as a single, preferably the next one. I'm really surprised how much it's connected with me over the last few days - just a beautifully melodic, delicate and heartfelt song . 'Gold' would be the safer bet for another hit I'd imagine while 'Eyes Shut' is a bit of a risk in comparison, but even if the latter was to 'underperform' to some degree, the band's momentum would mean it'd likely get enough exposure so as to sell the album, and I think it'd do a very good job of that (a better job than 'Gold' anyway). July 12, 201510 yr I think the record is very average. My hype for the album was real and Olly is an absolutely outstanding vocalist but all of the atmospheric ballads on the album aren't playing to their strengths. I honestly never want to hear Eyes Shut again and I think they'd be doing an injustice to the album's cycle releasing it. There are many fantastic songs on it but a painful amount of filler too. A generous 6/10 for the deluxe; I'd really like to give it 11/10 but............
July 12, 201510 yr How many times have you heard it? I listened once and found it quite average. One full listen later and I'm obsessed. Don't write it off yet if you've only heard it once ~
July 12, 201510 yr I just finished my second listen. The only song that really grew on me was Without, mainly because of the chorus and Olly's excellent vocals in it. Ties seems to have a lot of love; again, it's a great chorus and not much else. The first five songs, King, Desire, Gold, Border and I Want To Love are great; the two aforementioned songs are passable; 1977 and Memo are filler; and I hate Eyes Shut and Ready For You. Over half of the record is easily perfect; the problem is that to me there's a large distinction between the songs that are fantastic and the ones that aren't. It's also very monotonous. The standard makes for a better listen than the deluxe. I wish I could be more positive about it because they're crazy talented but they should give their strengths to better songs.
July 13, 201510 yr Good interview with Olly on Popjustice: http://www.popjustice.com/articles/olly-al...n-being/137118/ 7Digital have this as Album of the Week for £4.99. I may have to take up that offer to tide me over until I get a CD copy (I've asked for it for my birthday).
July 13, 201510 yr Brilliant to see the album in at 37k with 4 days to go. Could do about 60k this week... 'Shine' has obviously done a wonderful job of picking up album sales. I couldn't be more pleased. I can't remember the last time an album I loved this much went to #1. (It's so refreshing to stan for a non-flop) Edited July 13, 201510 yr by Joe.
July 14, 201510 yr I really don't think I'm eloquent enough to deliver a proper review of this album but I just wanted to pop in to say it's completely gorgeous. Feels like an album Lana Del Rey would make if she didn't actually enjoy the whole "toxic love life" thing and also decided that dance music was her new passion in life. Really emotional album to listen to and 'Shine' manages to be simultaneously somewhat sad and yet one of the happiest songs I've ever heard. 'Eyes Shut' is kinda whatever tho ^_^
July 14, 201510 yr Really emotional album to listen to and 'Shine' manages to be simultaneously somewhat sad and yet one of the happiest songs I've ever heard. This is exactly how I feel about the song, too. I find it quite special. Glad so many people here are enjoying it too. LOfeulBfr5I Their cover of Weeknd's 'Earned It' in the live lounge today. Can't say I think it sounded very good, but I pretty much hate that song anyway. Edited July 15, 201510 yr by Joe.
July 15, 201510 yr The album is pretty bland on first listen. Production is very good but there's nothing that makes most songs stand out. Grew indifferent to King even though I LOVED it at first. The chorus in Border is incredible though, cannot get enough of it.
July 15, 201510 yr Loving seeing the recognition here for 'Border'. If ever there was a song truly elevated by its chorus, it's that. Fast becoming a favourite of mine. <3
