Finland will probably have a harder time qualifying given the song is only 1.5 minutes long and the majority of votes surely comes from DURING the performance! Unless they have a brilliant staging I don't see Greece and Hungary NOT boring the audience. Serbia will fall short unless they make the performance more Bosnia 2008 and less Serbia 2013. This top 2 is really the only option. Sadly Belgium won't do a LOT in the Semifinal because of the early draw. But crazier things have happened so idk bye. I have hope in Albania being instant enough to qualify. Same with Macedonia. Georgia will probably make a f***ing amazing performance to go along with the song so it's going to make an impakt going last.

Sadly I don't see Switzerland and Malta qualifying this time around. They have got Norway and Sweden to blame really. Czech Republic will probably come dead last though because everyone will long have forgotten about them as soon as Nadav gets on stage. Poor Aminata going on after him AND before Azerbaijan! It's like they are TRYING to undermine the poor hoe! I still think her fabulousness will be just enough to pull her through. As much as I love Portugal this year, she gon' flop. Knez's Zeljko eleganza will be safely through. I feel more secure with my predictions in this Semi tbh.

Tbh I think people have been underrating it for ages. I have money on it to both win and come top 4.

Not sure about it winning but I can see it being top 5 like Berger.

LMFAO

There is literally no way in hell Finland are finishing last. That would never happen to the act who are basically the biggest media story of the year performer-wise (obviously barring Australia).

that your option
I'd say WE'LL SEE in May, but you'll probably have done a set of predictions where Finland win the semi by then.

Me and my friend devised a sure-fire system to predict the top 10 , we combined a ranking of the odds (from oddschecker), total views from the ESC channel and number of likes/number of views to try and work out the most popular songs. It's quite a problematic system especially since Sweden removed their video and put a new one up so they're miles behind on views. And obviously it can't account for people liking/viewing from their home country but anyway it threw up these results:

Semi 1

1. Armenia

2. Russia *most viewed*

3. Albania

4. Georgia *highest likes on youtube as percentage of views*

5. Estonia *highest in odds*

6. Belgium

7. Belarus

8. Macedonia

9. Greece

10. Romania

--

11. Finland *lowest likes on youtube as a percentage of views*

12. Serbia

13. Hungary

14. Netherlands

15. Denmark *fewest views*

16. Moldova *worst odds*

Semi 2

1. Azerbaijan *most views*

2. Slovenia

3. Israel

4. Norway

5. Sweden *best odds* *highest likes as a percentage of views* *fewest views*

6. Iceland

7. Latvia

8. Malta

9. Cyprus

10. Ireland

--

11. Montenegro

12. Poland

13. Lithuania

14. Switzerland

15. Czech Republic

16. San Marino *lowest likes as a percentage of views*

17. Portugal *worst odds*

Then for the final inc AQ's:

1. Azerbaijan

2. Italy

3. Russia

4. Armenia

5. Albania

6. Sweden

7. Georgia

8. Slovenia

9. Australia

10. Spain

11. Estonia

12. UK

13. Norway

14. Belgium

15. Israel

16. Iceland

17. Macedonia

18. Latvia

19. Belarus

20. Romania

21. Greece

22. Malta

23. Cyprus

24. Ireland

25. Austria

26. France

27. Germany

(I really should be writing my dissertation help haha)

Will probably have another go in a few weeks when/if Sweden have caught up on views to see how much of a difference it makes! If their video now had the mean views of the other 26 they'd actually be second behind Azerbaijan on my points system.

Then for the final inc AQ's:

1. Azerbaijan

2. Italy

The Nightmare of 2011: The Re-Up

Except Azeri song this year is the complete opposite to one of 2011, i.e. f***ing amazing. And Italy's is worse.
The Nightmare of 2011: The Re-Up

I didn't even notice that  really could see Azerbaijan winning but no way are Italy coming top 3

Except Azeri song this year is the complete opposite to one of 2011, i.e. f***ing amazing. And Italy's is worse.

Oh 'Hour Of The Wolf' is marvellous but a winner? If 'Drip Drop' couldn't do it for them then NOTHING SHOULD

Drip Drop didn't translate that well on stage. It was so much better as a studio version. And I am sure Elnur will S L A Y live just like he did in 2008.
  • 4 weeks later...

I tried to do this the other night but just couldn't get each semi down to ten qualifiers, but I'm trying again now so these are my after pre-party, before rehearsals predictions:

Semi Final One

01 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Russia.png Russia

02 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Finland.png Finland

03 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Romania.png Romania

04 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Greece.png Greece

05 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Estonia.png Estonia

06 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Belgium.png Belgium

07 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Georgia.png Georgia

08 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Denmark.png Denmark

09 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Armenia.png Armenia

10 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Moldova.png Moldova

11 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/FYR_Macedonia.png F.Y.R. Macedonia

12 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Belarus.png Belarus

13 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Serbia.png Serbia

14 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Hungary.png Hungary

15 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Albania.png Albania

16 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Netherlands.png The Netherlands

I have this feeling in the back of my mind that Hungary will get through but I just can't find room in my top 10. Greece are sailing through on the back of Maria Elena's pre-party performances, probably going to be the strongest performed ballad of the contest along with Russia. Denmark should be out based on their non-song and lack of voting friends, but they will stand out in this semi and will get through just possibly thanks to jury help. I feel like Moldova are going to sneak through on the back of a very up-tempo and choreographed routine, and Eduard's vocals have been competent in the pre-parties. I'm VERY wary of putting The Netherlands down there purely because I've read rumours that they've got the same staging team as last year and are going to somehow make the staging come across as a video clip. That's what I've read and if they pull out something special then expect a big increase in my post-rehearsal predictions. I adore Albania, and many other fans do too but where are the votes coming from for Elhaida? Greece and Macedonia yes, but that's about it. I can see a high jury score but a very low televote which pulls down any chance of getting anything more than odd 1s and 2s from everywhere else. I really want to be wrong!

05 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Cyprus.png Cyprus

06 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Slovenia.png Slovenia

16 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/San_Marino.png San Marino

17 http://www.eurovision.tv/img/upload/flags/mini/Portugal.png Portugal

Not as many changes here, only Czech Republic making a big gain due to the incredibly strong live vocals and I'd like to think that somehow their incredible personalities will come across on screen. Israel have dropped out of the top 10 to make room for them, I know it's a fun uptempo but it screams non-qualifier to me now despite his great stage presence shown in the pre-parties. I can't see where the votes are going to come from, this will probably be one of the surprise occasions where it does better with juries than televoters. Apart from that nothing much to report compared to last time, although I'm sensing hype with Norway after a fantastic reaction from the London party so I moved them up a couple of places. Still confident Poland and Cyprus will sail through against many expectations.

Latvia are the most realistic choice for fan favourite failure - and there will be one - at the moment :(

Really? I can't see the juries treating something so stand-out and left-field badly, especially if it's performed well. Israel seem like a far more likely fan favourite failure.

As a track it doesn't really have many of the traits previous fan favourite failures have had either. It's a world apart from the likes of Same Heart, Quero ser tua, Crisalide and Love Unlimited.

It is a tricky one to predict, but I feel like it's going to be too marmite for juries in terms of some members putting it high and some putting it low which will result in an average jury score and songs this left-field always runs the risk of the televoters not getting it at all. That said, Lex showed me a video of this song being staged in a very unique way, if they choose to perform it this way in Vienna then I can see it qualifying. However, something Aminata said in an interview in the London Party made me think it's going to be pretty similar to her Supernova performance.

Yeah I don't think Israel will make it either but I get more of an impression that people expect Israel to not qualify anyway, whereas people expect Aminata to qualify.

Here's the video Lex showed me:

Pairing that stage with great camerawork should see Aminata through, but I'm less confident if she uses the Supernova staging.

Well Ryan, I see those predictions, and I raise you these:

Semi One

01 Russia

02 Belgium

03 Estonia

04 Albania

05 Georgia

06 Romania

07 Greece

08 Hungary

09 Denmark

10 Netherlands

11 Finland

12 Armenia

13 Belarus

14 Macedonia

15 Serbia

16 Moldova

Basically, virtually all the countries who had to use jury votes in the semis last year (Macedonia, Albania, Georgia, Moldova) plus the unlikelihood of the Aussies staying up til 5am on a Wednesday morning means that Jury votes will count for more than public votes which IMO will push Finland, Armenia and Serbia out at the benefit of Hungary, Denmark and Netherlands and forgiving any underhand tactics that should also mean Moldova will come last.

Semi Two

01 Sweden

02 Norway

03 Slovenia

04 Azerbaijan

05 Latvia

06 Iceland

07 Lithuania

08 Cyprus

09 Czech Republic

10 Montenegro

11 Poland

12 Ireland

13 Israel

14 Malta

15 Portugal

16 San Marino

17 Switzerland

San Marino will avoid being dead last because three of the most crooked juries (Azerbaijan, Malta and Montenegro) will give them something whereas I struggle to see Switzerland getting much points from anywhere. Also strongly suspect that they'll just plonk Monika on the floor without her wheelchair so the story will be lost.

Final

01 Sweden

02 Australia

03 Russia

04 Belgium

05 Norway

06 Slovenia

07 Italy

08 Latvia

09 Azerbaijan

10 Estonia

11 Albania

12 Georgia

13 Spain

14 Iceland

15 United Kingdom

16 Lithuania

17 Romania

18 Germany

19 Greece

20 Denmark

21 Hungary

22 Austria

23 Cyprus

24 Montenegro

25 Czech Republic

26 France

27 Netherlands

I predict a mid to high amount of egg to be on my face when I re-read this on May 8th.

  • Author
Oh and for the record, I think that staging is what'll make Latvia a top 10 in the Final rather than just guaranteeing qualification. Israel and Serbia fulfil the fan fave flop sufficiently between them.

Random predict :

Sweden - the winner with a big gap in points

Russia - not in top 5

Australia - top 5

United Kingdom - lower than 20th place

Lithuania - DNQ
