*waits for Totto to link Rochelle singing Ego middle 8*

She is straining a bit, but at least she's not cracking :kink:

Did you guys also know, oh my god April why did you get me started, that she covered Vanessa's adlibs on JCGE the same show ?

Rochelle has a lot of confidence in her voice, I don't think I've ever heard her crack...But she does strain A LOT and has been off-key quite a lot as well. She shouldn't strain though, it could affect her voice in the long terms. Although, it doesn't seem to matter these days with what she's been up to.

Those are some nice vocals from Rochelle, but maybe we look for different things in a vocalist. I believe Rochelle has a very strong voice and has secured her spot as second best vocalist in the group. Her vocal ability has also improved a lot since the group first started (whereas Vanessa's has deteriorated). But I still don't think her vocal ability trumps Vanessa's. Her pitch always sounds slightly off and she lacks the vocal control and versatility that Vanessa has. Her vocals come across strong but very basic. Like Hurricane said, she very often sounds strained whereas Vanessa can belt notes with very little effort. The cracking is the only issue but it doesn't happen that frequently and again, Rochelle isn't even attempting half of the challenging vocals that Vanessa tackles. So for me, Vanessa cracking on 10% of her many difficult notes is better than Rochelle cracking on 0% of her zero difficult notes. That's just my take.

Una has screechy vocals, so her.

But I could see Mollie easily leaving to start a floppy solo career as the most hated member, like (unfortunately) Victoria B.

And here where she snatches a couple of Vanessa's lines after she screeched her way through Forever Is Over:

That's the best example for Rochelle. She's straining and slightly off-pitch with the "and I'm no longer afraid!" (2:55), yet she sounds really good belting the "to the place I belong" line (3:08). Reastically, she can pull off similar vocals to Vanessa, but with clearly more efforts needed and I doubt she could manage to sing the whole chorus like that. She's good for the ONE big belting note here and there, but otherwise I don't believe she can fully manage an entire chorus in that part of her range. But still, all credits to her, the others wouldn't even touch such a chorus.

I guess we'll never know whether she could pull off a whole chorus of FIO. But that look she gives poor Vanessa after she's snatched her lines.

'I THINK (CRACK) you'll find that it is NASALLLLLLLL'

Rochelle can't do the "FOREVER IS OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVER", she does the rest fine.

THAT LAST NOTE THOUGH !!!!!   That's why she's the queen.

Despite the fact that you can barely hear a thing, she doesn't even sing the whole chorus. She does her usual low harmony in some places (or that's just the backing track, I don't even know anymore with these girls ), and she pretty much allow Frankie to sing a bit of the chorus instead of her. She didn't attempt Vanessa's "gone-gone-GONE" either.

'Forever Is Over' is an extremely hard song to sing. The fact that she can't do the whole chorus doesn't make her a less good singer. I think if she could, she would have. She's not the type to hold back when she can do something.
