Analysis

 

An eccentric chart all around this week…No new entries in the album chart but Shakira re-enters for a 5th time with Fijacion Oral Vol.1 which has spent 32 weeks in total in the top 20 but only 3 of those were in the top 10…Climbers outside the top 10 come from American Idol’s Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson while Summer Holiday Hits also moves back up as many albums dip a place or two…Rogue Traders return to the top 10 with Here come the drums pushing Nerina’s former No.1 Fires back to No.9…Cascada and The Pipettes fall a place each while Stephanie McIntosh is up to No.6…Lily Allen and Nelly Furtado swap places, both notching up a 14th week in the top 10 while the top 3 remains unchanged. This means that Paolo spends another week at No.3, Xtina scores a 5th week in the top 2 and Shakira’s Oral Fixation Vol.2 spends a 6th week at No.1 in total!!!

 

The singles chart is even more erratic with 3 new entries in the top 20 coming from Girls Aloud (#19), Rogue Traders (#17) and crooner Tony Bennett’s jazzy duet with Delta Goodrem (#9)…Elsewhere outside the top 10 there is a minor climb for Lucie Silvas while most songs fall slightly to make way for a packed top end…these slides include Cascada’s Everytime we touch and Rogue Traders Voodoo Child notching up 17 and 18 weeks in the top 20 respectively…Supafly Inc start the top 10 but plummet from No.4…just in front is the new entry from Tony and Delta while Christina’s infectious Candyman falls to No.8…Nelly Furtado and Lily Allen both see songs from last weeks top 3 fall to outside the top 5…A top 5 with four new songs is incredibly rare and it starts with Nerina Pallot whose Sophia is a up a place and gives her a 3rd top 5 hit of 2006. Gothic rock group Evanescence shoot from No.18 to No.4 with their new single while in complete contrast Danish Europop duo Infernal’s cover of Self Control gives them a second top 3 hit of this year as it surges from No.14…However its Shakira that has the icing on the cake as her former No.1 from 2005 La Tortura has an incredible re-entry at No.2 while her duet with Wyclef Jean, Hips Don’t Lie spends an amazing 9th week in control at No.1!!!
