Welcome in my retrospective thread for 1983 singles.

 

For many peoples 1983 was the best year in all music history, especially for pop genre. Two my major music icons : Heidi Range and Lithuanian pop singer Natalija Zvonke-Bunke (YVA, Pop Ladies) were born in this year.

 

My Top 30 chart is more alternative vision on the pop music scene of 1983, because the most worldwide hits are not represented in my chart.

 

For completing retro weekly charts I used the singles charts from United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, United States, Finland and Eurovision Song Contest with pre-selections. Also I add some flopped singles from my favourite singers / groups of this era (maybe even missed something).

 

P.S. :

1. It's my first attempt to do full retro charts and English is not my native language, so please don't judge me very strict.

2. The charts were / will be compiled in 2015, not in 1983. (I'm only 32 years old, so I couldn't have personal charts in 1983).

3. Unfortunately for me not all possible chart-breakers are available on Youtube, but it's only 5-10 % singles.

4. Albums tracks are not allowed, only official singles.

5. I try to update them as faster as I can, but it's not easy work.

New year = new leader. Marga Scheide (the voice, soul and charm of Dutch girl group Luv') got her first solo # 1 single with "One, Two, Three... Bananas".

ooh lots of stuff there I don't know, and a few I half-recall, and 3 I love: Abba, Abba, Mari Wilson (Just What I Always Wanted), plus one I like (Bucks Fizz) and some I think I like (Beware Boyfriend). I'm sure I'll like the Prelude tracks...

John, do you heard or maybe even like something from Luv' ? Ladies didn't have any hits in UK, but were popular in the middle Europe.

 

10 from them are Dutch entries. In most my retro charts Netherlands will be a very strong contender for main favourite (United Kingdom). Their top 40 is the best source for low-known pop treasures.

 

All songs are available on Youtube and I add all links. So people can listen something, if they want to do it.

 

From unknown songs firstly I recommend "Taxi Mary", "Good News, Bad News", Tight Fit and maybe # 1 song.

I like both the Abba ones, Just What I Always Wanted and If You Can't Stand The Heat.

 

Aside from Save Your Love (No.2, really?) :lol: I don't know any of the others

didnt notice the links Alex, musta taken you ages! The Prelude ones are good, I thought I would like them B-)

 

Netherlands records didnt get much airplay in the UK, apart from a few random hits, so didnt really know them. The Tight Fit one is very Abba-wannabee but I still love Fantasy Island of all theirs...

Aside from Save Your Love (No.2, really?)

 

It's the one from my favourite singles of 1982 year with 5 weeks at # 1 (include Christmas week) and all 80s decade.

 

I started listening to music in 1987 so any time after that but they're your charts so do what you want.... I will know and like lots of stuff from earlier than 1987. :)

I can do similar charts for any retro year from 1949 to 2005. Maybe they will be very static and smaller (top 10 or top 20), but I can do it.
