Some of her videos she dresses a bit girly or a bit like a lady. I'm sure she likes to dress up.

Any look suits her.

I'm sure she does ^_^

All girls are girly at heart even the most agressively butch ones

She has worn some fabulous outfits though in the videos and looks stunning in every picture I have seen of her

I thought she looked a bit odd at the VMA's to be honest.

I too am sure she likes to dress up at times.

I have this one photo of her in such a cute outfit - her jacket has a little ice cream on it and it's so cute and sweet.

The whole goth imagine for her is a lifestyle, she's such her own person no one will ever be truly like her, but I also think sometimes it's a character for her or a fantasy.

I think she wants to look unique in her own style

A way to escape her troubles you mean?

Umm yeah perhaps Graham, I think somedays the whole gothic image is for her, all her bad feelings personified.

It's no longer unique to be unique, unique is a new fashion now so there's no such thing as an origional outfit, haha

Hmmm, being a Goth myself from about the age of 14 or so (which was back in the 80s.... ), I think that there is way too much use of the 'G' word where Evanescence is concerned, and frankly I aint never heard the band themselves use it in any context to describe their music or style. The G-word has been much misused by the music press, record companies, etc as an easy way to market or pigeonhole certain bands (not just Evanescence; I can name others like Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, The Rasmus, etc, all of whom have been quite wrongly classified as 'goth'). I see Evanescence as being part of a group of bands which comprise Cold (Evanescence's new guitarist used to be in this band by the way folks...), Adema, Aiden, Orgy, Coal Chamber, Linkin Park and others. It aint Goth, it's closer to Nu Metal than anything, but not quite in the same vein as Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc. We used to call them "Spooky Kids" back in the early 90s when Marilyn Manson was called "Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids" (hence the monicker), now they seem to be lumped into the "Emo" category...

So, if anything Evanescence are an 'Emo' band with Nu Metal tendencies (or vice versa) really.... Not Goth..... It takes a bit more than merely dressing up in corsets and long-flowy dresses and having slightly dark lyrics to be a Goth. "Goth" has links to art, literature, poetry, existentialism and the Avant Garde......

I aint slagging off Evanescence, I am trying to clarify a few things which I feel have become distorted and misdirected, it's not the fault of the band, I blame lazy, bullsh!tting Journalists more than anyone for the obfuscation.....

I think people struggle to catergorise them because they are all over the place. I classify them as Pop/Rock.

Their wiki page says

Although usually categorized as rock, Evanescence does not easily fit into any one rock subcategory. The band are sometimes labelled by media sources as, and take influences from gothic metal, alternative rock, nu metal, piano rock, arena rock and wagnerian rock (the latter especially in the group's videos)
I think Amy Lee always looks really good but i dread the day that she, like many other people drop the image and settle for pretty in pink and blonde hair and fake nails :puke2: :puke:

Is that a catty reference to Gwen Stefani by any chance...?

Yeah, basically, that's it. A perfectly acceptable, solid, competent melodic Rock band really. If I were to compare them to any band from the past, I'd compare 'em to Heart (a female-fronted melodic AOR/Hard Rock band from the 80s...), they had a singer with a huge voice, with black hair and who dressed up in corsets and dark, flowy dresses, and they had these dramatic, typically 80s videos; but no one their right mind would ever have classified em as 'Goth', cos we knew better.....
