Is it so they can say to their audience "You too"

What other names where they going to call themselves? Was "the buzz" one of them?

Most prolly

As in "Yeah, YOU TOO can enjoy our music"

It's a class name

Bono didn't and possibly still doesn't like the name.

In an interview with Larry King, Bono is quoted as saying "I don't actually like the name U2," and "I honestly never thought of it as 'you too'." [5] Others feel that U2 derived its name from the Irish Unemployment form (in the same way as UB40 in the UK) - Wiki

2.1.2 Where does the name U2 come from?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The U2 model was an U.S. spy-plane used after WWII. It is famous for the 'U2 incident'. This plane was not supposed to be detectable by radars, but one was shot down four days before Bono was born. Gary Powers was the pilot. When looking for a catchy name, Adam saw an article in the newspaper about the anniversary of this downing and thought that U2 was a catchy, mysterious name.

Since our moderator is feeling sick i'll post it ;)

That is where I thought they got their name from.
