Top 10 Albums worldwide sales for 2014 (sales in millions, excluding streams):

1 - Various Artists - Frozen (10.0)

2 - Taylor Swift - 1989 (6.0)

3 - Ed Sheeran - x (4.4)

4 - Coldplay - Ghost Stories (3.7)

5 - Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour (3.5)

6 - One Direction - FOUR (3.2)

7 - AC/DC - Rock or Bust (2.7)

8 - Various Artists - Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (2.5)

9 - Pink Floyd - The Endless River (2.5)

10 - Lorde - Pure Heroine (2.0)

Frozen Fever truly continued on as they have sold 10 million albums in 2014 alone!!! Guardians of the Galaxy also did very well as they managed to sneak in the top 10!!! Excluding the soundtracks, Taylor slayed the competition as she impressively sold 6 million albums in two months of release!!! The only surprising entry there is Lorde as her huge Grammy win that year must have boosted her sales and maybe her contribution to Mockingjay soundtrack.

Top 10 Singles worldwide for 2014 (Overall unit sales in millions, units include single-track downloads and track-equivalent streams):

1 - Pharrell Williams - Happy (13.9)

2 - Katy Perry feat. Juicy J - Dark Horse (13.2)

3 - John Legend - All of Me (12.3)

4 - Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass (11.0)

5 - Idina Menzel - Let It Go (10.9)

6 - Pitbull feat. Ke$ha - Timber (9.6)

7 - Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX - Fancy (9.1)

8 - Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea - Problem (9.0)

9 - MAGIC! - Rude (8.6)

10 - Enrique Iglesias feat. Sean Paul, Descemer Bruno, Gente De Zona -Bailando (8.0)

Happy, of course, was going to be number one. It pretty much was number one for many weeks around the world for at least the first half of the year. AATB and Problem did a lot better than what I have predicted and a bit shocked that Shake It Off didn't make the cut.

Top 10 Artists of 2014:

1 - Taylor Swift

2 - One Direction

3 - Ed Sheeran

4 - Coldplay

5 - AC/DC

6 - Michael Jackson

7 - Pink Floyd

8 - Sam Smith

9 - Katy Perry

10 - Beyoncé

It was no surprise that Taylor Swift was going to be the Top Artist worldwide. Her 1989 era has been very massive for her, both in singles and albums. Even if her music isn't on Spotify, she still did excellent enough to grab the top spot!!!

Wow. I really cannot believe some of that stuff - particularly 'Dark Horse' coming so close to 'Happy' and 'Problem' coming so close to 'Fancy' - I can think of few countries where 'Fancy' wasn't the obvious bigger hit.

I know it's a bit different because Enrique is obviously a huge name in Anglophone countries but it's really wonderful to see a non-English song in the global top 10, too.

Problem was a very global hit, whilst Fancy mostly remained in the Anglophone countries. Fancy peakedoutside of the top 10 in every non-english country aside from Germany whereas Problem managed to bag a lot more top 10's (and thus more streams and sales)

This is interesting, I was really ignorant actually. I assumed a lot based on the typical progression (it's not often you see such a huge Anglophone smash falter elsewhere) but also because 'Black Widow' did quite well internationally. But looking at the peaks more closely it seems that 'Black Widow' actually outperformed 'Fancy' outside of the US/Australia, which I didn't expect at all. I would never have predicted that.

Hey!
