the original is so much better and infinitely scarier because, as Scott says, the character development was more in depth...and the whole thing was filmed deliberately to look like a home movie.

The remake - only someone who knows extremely little about film could say it's a better movie than the original....

I'm guessing The Beginning film is an 18?

I think it will be. It looks pretty pointless TBH as I think we all can guess whats gonna happen, but saying that I guess you could say the same for the Star Wars prequels.

the naffest bit of the whole film is the grandad, a giant crisp wearing a suit, how inventive, no wonder he eats people, people will eat him if he's not careful

Oh FFS!!! Dont you get the fact that the makers of the film DID NOT EXACTLY HAVE A BIG BUDGET???? So they couldn't really afford all the fancy make up effects, and yeah, Hooper was bloody inventive, he took a tiny budget and made one of the greatest horror films of all time, people still talk about "Texas Chainsaw Massacre despite it's budgetary limitations, and people will still talk about it when trash like the remake falls by the wayside, BECAUSE IT WAS BLOODY A GOOD FILM WITH A GREAT SCRIPT (something the pile of sh!t remake could never be accused of..).... You're applying modern standards on a film that was made OVER 30 FUKKIN' YEARS AGO!!!

Sorry, but this sort of churlishness really pisses me off.... <_< I suppose you'll be criticising the fact that George Romero used 'fake-looking' pig intestines in "Night of the Living Dead" next.....

I'm pretty damn sure they already actually did a prequel of sorts to TCM, a direct-to-video 'sank without trace' pile of c**p it was too - a pre-fame Renee Zellweger and Matt McConnaughy starred I do believe.... Something Zellweger would rather forget so I hear....

But yes, you're absolutely right, this will be a total waste of time, it will be greeted with utter contempt from any serious Horror film fan....

it's awful but not that bad as i can handle Renee Zellweger being in that, and not too keen on her.

so nobodys gonna see the new one then in about 2 weeks time

i actually like the fact that the effects are not slick and not cgi. these old horror film just have the edge, something about them that makes them special. maybe as all the recent ones are just dawson's creek with blood (apart from rob zombie's)

Exactly, and as Russ said, the original was shot almost like it was a home movie or something. Slickness and big budgets dont really work with the contemporary Horror films, it has to be grungy, lo-fi and a bit on the cheap side. Slickness and extravagance is appropriate for Gothic horror films - yer Draculas, yer Frankensteins, yer Lestats, etc....

I think that "Dawson's Creek with blood" is a very apt way to describe about 99% of these post-"Scream" horror films...

Look, Me and a lot of my friends enjoyed the remake a lot more than the original

And we all went to the cinema

Thats all the production cares about- ticket sales and thats what we give them

Just because youre opinion isn the same as someone else, doesnt mean you can go parading around thinking youre opinion is the dogs bollocks because you use fancy words

Wellapparently its got very good reviews and is supposed to be really scary ^_^

Im going to watch it ^_^

And I have no doubt that you will too just show you can write an essay on how rubbish it is and how great some Japanese turd horror is ^_^

People who went to see this film knew what they were going to watching, so why do people complain

Was I even talking to you mate...? I think you'll find the post was directed at somebody else, and they were plainly talking utter bollocks and not taking very important factors into consideration (ie, the budget of the original film and the time at which it was made....)

And I happen to have actually studied Film, and done the research, so I reckon I know a wee bit more about it than you do dude....

No offence....

How many Japanese Horror films you actually sat and watched...? Hmm, I'm thinking maybe "Ringu" or "Ju-On" and, er, that's about it.....

Ignorance is clearly bliss in Callum-world innit....? At least I actually sodding well watch the films I slag off....

you're talking out of your (obviously very young and inexperienced) asshole.

End of.

Hahaha touché <3.

hardly.... kids like you would obviously rather spoon-fed glossy horror - I blame c**p like Scream and the glam-horror we've been given by the studios these days.

I suggest checking out some of the REAL horror genre... yes, the Japanese movies, Romero, Coscarelli and some of the other Italian directors before you try to be clever with droll comments like 'touche'. Then you can join this discussion with some knowledge.

Thank you.

Yeaaaah, sorry for not knowing everything about films from the 18th century at 16 yrs of age...ASIF!

And I was agreeing with Callum on the fact that if you say "Oh I like this film", or suchlike, one of your kind come in with all this "Oh look at me I'm Japanese" lark or wtfev when it has NOTHINNNNNNNG to do with the film/thread; it's just a lameass attempt to portray how much you know abuot film and patronise everyone.

So save all your film knowledge for someone who cares because it's not impressing me. Tah.

[PMT. Ouch.]

And on a relevant note I bought the original on VHS today for £2.99!

So stick that in your pipe and smoke it you big I AM A LOSER.

Yes but the producers dont care if the audience have studied film or not

here not all trying to get the studied film audience are they

This film clearly was aimed at the teenage audience who like a bit of slasher stuff and not to be taken hughely seriously

Ive watched many and they were all terrible
