This is the first chart i've posted here, and it coincides with the 19th anniversary of the day I first published them. Back then it was just a top 10, the first #1 was the Spice Girls with Wannabe which remained at #1 for 12 weeks. More on them below with 'Artists Spotlight'

The Spice Girls were the first act to reach #1 on July 27th 1996 with their debut single 'Wannabe', which spent 12 weeks at #1. That was knocked off the top spot by 'Say You'll Be There' which spent 11 weeks at #1, and then that was subsequently knocked off the top spot by '2 Become 1' which spent 5 weeks at #1. The first non Spice Girls related #1 was on January 11th 1997 when Tori Amos knocked them off the top spot with the remix of 'Professional Widow'. They went on to have 11 #1 singles and 12 top 5 chart singles.
