January 31, 20169 yr The Revenant Closed Circuit Creed Poor week by viewing numbers and movies this week :( Hated The Revenant and didn't like Closed Circuit either. Loved Creed though, fantastic movie  Will be posting reviews for all 3 hopefully tonight so look out for those!
February 3, 20169 yr I watched Die Welle this week and it was really interesting! I read the one sentence summary on wiki before going in, so all I really knew was that there was going to be a teacher showing his students how easily a dictatorship could occur. I wasn't really sure what to expect, I half thought it could go quite over the top. However I thought the way the "dictatorship" evolved was really interesting, and eerily easy to slip into. The ending was very nerve wracking, and a huge shock :o Would definitely recommend :D (I also watched Camp Rock and most of Princess Protection Programme which is extremely different genre to Die Welle  Both kind of disappointed me :kink: I also rewatched Goodbye Lenin which I saw for the first time last week and now love )
February 3, 20169 yr Author Been a quiet week this week Ride Along 2 (2016) Capture the Flag (2016) Blue Jasmine (2013) Top 2 were OK but nothing special at all. I really enjoyed Blue Jasmine though, actually thought Sally Hawkins was the standout but can't say she deserved the win over Lupita that year so fair enough, it was an interesting film though and time seemed to fly by :D
February 9, 20169 yr Author Another fairly quiet week unfortunately: Zoolander (2001) Annie (2014) 13 Going on 30 (2004) Zoolander was a re-watch, of course it is very silly but still a few good laughs and I love the cast, so excited to see Will Ferrell back in that role. Annie was really charming, Quvenzhané Wallis is so likeable and sweet and though Rose Byrne did a good job in her role and Bobby Cannavale was pretty funny at times too. It annoyed me a bit that they got rid of the characters of Rooster/Lily and there were some cheesy parts but I enjoyed it overall. Cameron Diaz is no Carol Burnett either... 13 Going on 30 was another re-watch but not one I've watched in years, not the funniest comedy ever but it's so charming and a fun concept to see play out. I really like the two leads as well and yay for happy endings! :D Edited February 9, 20169 yr by •Josh•
February 10, 20169 yr Had a lil DVD spending spree, picked up; Lullaby The Martian Blackhat Lullaby has a huge cast of great actors and is a really emotional story. I obviously only bought it for Amy Adams but she has a pretty small part. Garrett Hedlund is a really good leading man, never seen him in any major roles before this. The Martian is obv amazing because of Sebby, let down by Kate Mara the ruiner of movies and I found Matt Damon bareable which rarely happens. I don't go for sci fi that much, I stick to superheroes, but this was a great story and had some really amazing scenes. Once you get over the whole "casting muscle mountain Chris Hemsworth as a computer hacker" thing, Blackhat wasn't that bad, certainly better than the critics made out. Not overly amazing but it kept me entertained. It did kind of make me realise that Chris Hemworth doesn't seem to be much of a "movie star" even though he is a really capable actor and can carry a movie, he has made some really iffy choices and his movies outside of Thor and Avenegers seem to be underperformers or bombs, which is a shame.
February 10, 20169 yr Saw The Truman Show yesterday and really enjoyed it. Not often I enjoy a film as much as I did with that.
February 15, 20169 yr Return To Sender Zoolander Zoolander 2 Carol Zoolander was absolutely excellent and so hilarious, was laughing so much! Carol was pretty good and a really nice movie (I'll be posting a review on it later today). However Return To Sender and Zoolander 2 were atrocious, the former was dreadful despite Rosamund Pike doing a good job and the latter wasn't funny one bit (apart from the SB cameo)
February 16, 20169 yr Favourite Film I Saw Today: Unfinished Business 4/10 Get Hard 7.5/10 It Follows 9.5/10 Home 10/10 Predestination 5.5/10 Cake 5.5/10 Lila & Eve 8.5/10 Had a gigantic movie day today, watched so much! Unfinished Business was ok but there was something definitely lacking, the drama parts surprisingly worked well but for a comedy movie it fell flat and most the cast was awful- especially young Franco and the British one. Get Hard was way better than I expected, pretty funny and Kevin Hart was actually the highlight of the movie, really liked him in this :o It Follows was so creepy, Lotti & I were basically crapping ourselves, so scary but was such a fantastic and thrilling movie that kept you interested at all points. Home was my favourite movie but I have seen that before which is why it is in italics, it was actually even better on 2nd watch and I didn't realise or appreciate how amazing Feel The Light was in the context of the movie  Predestination was fantastic the first half but turned into a confusing and complicated mess in the 2nd half, Sarah Snook was incredible though and gave one of the best performances of the year! Cake was a nice film, albeit a bit boring, Jennifer was great. And Lila & Eve was really entertaining with 2 incredible performances and a shock twist I never saw coming!
February 16, 20169 yr Author You watched seven movies in one day haha whaaaaat? My record is four and I felt DEFEATED :drama: Home is definitely my fav on that list too, I want to watch It Follows but I'd just be too scared. Edited February 16, 20169 yr by •Josh•
February 16, 20169 yr It Follows is frightening as hell but still an absolutely fantastic movie so I'd still recommend a watch
February 16, 20169 yr I watched Die Welle this week and it was really interesting! I read the one sentence summary on wiki before going in, so all I really knew was that there was going to be a teacher showing his students how easily a dictatorship could occur. February 16, 20169 yr It Follows omg!! definitely the scariest film I've ever seen, it's just SO perfectly executed and it's so simple yet so terrifying :o Would definitely recommend watching! :')
February 16, 20169 yr It Follows is BRILLIANT and I am usually so critical of modern horror. Saw The Truman Show yesterday and really enjoyed it. Not often I enjoy a film as much as I did with that. An all-time great <3
February 16, 20169 yr The Truman Show is a Jim Carrey movie I really need to get round watching, had it on my list for ages! Same with Liar Liar!
February 17, 20169 yr Author Spotlight (2016) Zoolander 2 (2016) Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) Concussion (2016) How to Be Single (2016) The Internship (2013) Pride and Prejudice (2005) Monsters, Inc (2001) Up (2009) Monsters, Inc was my favourite but it was a re-watch so kind of disqualified, haven't seen it in years though so I'm glad it holds up. After seeing the zombie version of P&P, I thought I'd go check it out and it's actually a really interesting story, Keira Knightley is excellent in it too, the zombie version is cool as well but I like the story so much that it's better when it's focused solely on that. Concussion and Spotlight were pretty much equal with the latter being a bit better, both important story that were well told. HTBS was a fun comedy but dragged down towards the end and The Internship was a bit too unfunny in places although it did have its moments.
February 25, 20169 yr Author Deadpool (2016) Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip (2016) Dad's Army (2016) Toy Story (1995) - talked about this in the Pixar thread but I enjoyed this more than I remember, it has some great supporting characters Juno (2007) - loved the script to this, it was funny and sad in a perfect balance. Ellen Page was excellent as Juno and I always love Jennifer Garner in pretty much everything. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014) - always had a soft spot for these and this was no exception, I loved that it was set in London (the lions at Trafalgar Square coming to life was great) and the addition of Rebel Wilson too. Along Came Polly (2004) - this had some good moments but not THAT funny really, I like the whole cast though and chuckled a few times The Finest Hours (2016) Inception (2010) - wasn't expecting to like this so much but the time flew by and it was just such a compelling storyline. Much like Ex Machina, it's a film I've been thinking about for days afterwards. Triple 9 (2016) Boyhood (2014) - this started off so well and I was really into it but then not much happened in the second half and the boy became really distant and awkward to watch which ruined it for me. The acting from both Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette was excellent too and I liked the sister (her singing Britney ) The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) - not seen the first but this was really enjoyable, a cute film and Chris Pine is dreaaammyyy. This is 40 (2012) - I loved how this was just all about getting old and there were some good jokes that played on that, I thought Paul Rudd was hilarious as usual and Melissa McCarthy's cameo had me in stitches, her outtakes during the credits were so funny too. Inception was my favourite with Deadpool just behind.
March 4, 20169 yr Author Goosebumps (2016) Grimsby (2016) The Hangover (2009) Precious (2009) Friends with Benefits (2011) District 9 (2009) The King's Speech (2010) The Blind Side (2009) District 9 was my favourite because I loved the documentary style to it and it was fun to watch. The King's Speech would by next choice because it was really interesting to watch and the acting was superb. I also liked Precious a lot (so sad in places and Monique was incredible in this) and The Blind Side (yay for the acting and uplifting story but some bits were a bit silly, what test in school tests 'protective insticts'?). Friends With Benefits was a lot of fun, some good laughs, great chemistry too! The Hangover was also fun but I've never got the mass love for it, I preferred both other comedies I watched this week.
March 4, 20169 yr Precious has been on my Netflix list for ages, really need to get round to watching it!
March 4, 20169 yr Yeah! I need to watch 'Precious' too. Always wanted to, just never got around to doing so. Was that the first time you saw 'District 9' Josh? I saw it for the first time a couple years ago and loved it. It's crazy just how much ot makes you sympathise with the aliens!
