Oh no sorry, that wasn't aimed at you in any way. :kink: I've appreciated your comments throughout! -x- In general, I am really, really sorry this is taken so long  but I've given it all the time I've had, I didn't want to rush through it either!
February 11, 20169 yr Rate 2014 Family Fortunes Beaverfina Family Fortunes leaderboard to name just TWO. I've wrote ~75 big paragraphs in those 4 months whilst updating overnight ratings, official ratings, doing Least Favourite polls as well as other general threads as well as concentrating on my final year of university as well as ACTUALLY ENJOYING LIFE. So yeh, sorry about that. :) 🙄🙄🙄🙄 Breakdown teas
February 11, 20169 yr I forgot about this thread for ages. Some excellent commentaries Froot, really great for reading. Naturally I'm very pleased to see most of the scripted shows high, I've been watching The Walking Dead since voting and I'm getting fairly close to catching up, very much into the twists and turns and it's just really scary when you get invested into the characters there. Quite sad to not see Game Of Thrones top 10 in that case, it's absolutely unbeatable for me in the gripping suspense and high fantasy stakes it puts you through. Very much worthy of being my favourite. (positive, it beating Big Brother, negative, it got beaten by Eastenders :/) Top 10, aside from Breaking Bad and Friends, maybe Doctor Who too (but they're both tainted by going on for so long that they also have their fair share of SHIT dragging them down, and that's to say nothing of The Simpsons), I'd put nowhere NEAR a list like this preferably. Again, Breaking Bad is so gripping and has left such an impact on me even a couple of years after I've watched it, there's just moment after fantastic moment in there, an absolute essential for storytelling. I think it fully converted me to searching out the best of TV dramas, sitcoms have felt so empty ever since with no consequences for the characters. Eurovision is a bit of a weird inclusion but it is a captivating experience once a year so I guess that's fine. Family Guy has had some great moments but it's tainted for me by just going for awful shock humour and passing off being really mean and edgy as good writing. The one time I watched GBBO this year, I found it quite dull, it's just not my kind of thing in the slightest. And Miranda is a-ok, it's just after you've seen a couple of great episodes like Just Act Normal I don't find I want to see any more.

Doctor Who • 522 points http://i1.walesonline.co.uk/incoming/article7635447.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/JS44309097.jpg 06-07-05 No. of votes: 17, Highest score: 40 (Joseph Styles, Chez Wombat, Spinning Adam, Froot., Ninjabait, popchartfreak) 23rd November 1963 - present (35 series) • UK TV and Soaps Doctor Who has transformed from a show that was just created to bridge a gap on Saturday afternoons to one of the biggest shows in the world (35 series!!). The show follows a Time Lord called the Doctor who can travel in time and space in his TARDIS with numerous companions as he fights aliens and monsters, saving people, aliens and planets. It first aired in 1963 and was intended to be an educational show that would look at different events in history but, it soon became a lot more science fiction based following the first appearance of the Daleks. This was because the Daleks immediately took off in popularity and gave the show a much needed rating boost. They have become one of the most well known monsters in entertainment overall and they can be seen to have saved the show! One of the other aspects that have become integral to Doctor Who that helped the show see long-lasting success is that the Doctor can regenerate, meaning that a new leading actor can be brought in to replace the previous one. It is still the same character and it helps to keep the show fresh. Over its 53 years on our screens, thirteen different actors have played the part of the Doctor, with Tom Baker becoming the most synonymous with the role, partly due to his reign being the longest. Change is integral to the show and it is the reason why it has become one of the longest running TV shows. Indeed, its the reason why I love the show so much! THe concept behind the show allows each episode to be completely different from each other. There are endless possibilities as writers can explore any time period and create any world and/or monsters that they wish (so long as its in budget). One week it can explore what caused the eruption in Pompeii, the next week can explore the Devil on a planet that surrounds a black hole, the other can seen aliens taking over our Government! Change is also seen in the Doctor's companion, usually a young female from Earth, designed to be the viewer's eyepiece. As with anything, the show saw a significant decrease in viewers in the late 1980s, after 26 years on screen, which led to its cancellation. This is impressive for any show but its huge popularity saw it live on through books and other media, whilst also returning for a US produced show in 1996. It was brought back properly in 2005 with a refreshed look but retaining the essential ingredients and allowing for a continuation rather than completely rebooting. It saw a huge new wave of success, even bigger than the one experienced in its initial run. This was partly down to the companion being more of the centre of the show as well as a quicker pace, new CGI effects and excellent writing in general. It may not be hitting the same heights as in 2005-8 but the show is still hugely popular 10 years on from its revival and it was able to have a huge celebration across the BBC for its 50th anniversary. This saw a feature-length special that had a cinema release and was viewable in 3D. It may push the boundaries of a limited BBC budget but still able to compete with big international shows as it increases its popularity worldwide. In particular, viewership is growing every year in the US which is very impressive, especially for a show that is VERY British at its heart. The show is a phenomenon and it truly is one of the biggest and best TV shows ever. It is a HUGE part of British culture and it contains some of the most popular and well-known TV characters and aliens and it reaches heights that no other show can. It is the highest UK TV show!
February 14, 20169 yr Doctor Who is by far and away my favourite TV show, it's been a huge part of my life since I first watched it almost 10 years ago and I really never looked back. The Russell T Davies series (1-4) are better than what's being produced now but it's still top notch and I thoroughly enjoy it. Really can't speak highly enough of it! Excellent write up too Froot

Following a less than successful second series of Pop Idol, ITV looked at that show's star, Simon Cowell, for a replacement. The show retained the same concept (judges, auditions, public voting, live shows) but introduced certain elements that have helped it to become a huge success, including the addition of groups being able to participate. The main new element was that each judge would mentor a certain category, either 16-24s, over 25s or the groups. This was helped by the fact that each of the initial judges (Simon, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne) had experience in managing artists. The other new features were Boot Camp and Judges Houses, where contestants are taken to glamorous locations to sing in front of their mentor. The first couple of series were hugely popular but it wasn't until the show found its first international star in Leona Lewis that it really took off to stand apart from its Popstars and Pop Idol predecessors. The fourth series became less 'business-like' as it were with the introduction of Dannii Minogue who is not a music manger, as a fourth judge. The editing became more clever as the show became bigger as well as more dramatic, especially as international stardom was now shown to be a possibility. The golden era for the show was when Cheryl Cole joined in the fifth series, and its peak was indeed in the seventh series, which featured One Direction who went on to be the biggest act to come from the show. Ever since, the show has gradually slumped in popularity which wasn't helped by Simon becoming too big for his boots by taking the show to an over-saturated US market and taking Cheryl with him. Constant line-up replacements, including the return of Simon and Cheryl have done nothing to help recover the ratings. The show is very notable for its drama and controversy, with a joke act managing to survive many weeks every year always attracting complaints. The shows revels in featuring awful acts, not helped by Louis Walsh, which has led to some calling it exploitative. The recent introduction of the Six Chair challenge has recently caused some of the biggest controversy as the show looks to the Hunger Games for advice, with contestants being offered a place in the next stage, only to have it taken away from them some moments later. The show has attracted some of the biggest ratings of the decade though as well as producing some of the biggest artists. It is the King of talent shows.
February 14, 20169 yr YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Shouldn't have been top 5. No. My two faves crashing out next to each other  The X Factor hasn't lost its charm for me, it's essential viewing and I enjoy it a huge amount. It annoys me when the ratings are referred to as rubbish, and while they're not as good as they were at the show's peak, it's still pulling in loads of viewers and no doubt making a hell of a lot of money for ITV. Regardless, some of my favourite music acts have come from X Factor (in particular 1D of course!) so it's reached further than just the TV in a positive way. Although sacking Mel B was NOT GOOD.

The Apprenctice sees buisness people compete in weekly tasks in order to either work for Lord Alan Sugar or win a £250,000 investment for a business. These task can include selling items to members of the public, creating a new product, advertising and marketing or setting up a new business. Each task has its own project manager, who will be different each week and they are in charge for the task. Applicants are mostly very arrogant, or at least they have to big themselves up (including 'I am the reflection of perfection' and 'everything I touch turns to sold'), allowing it to be all the more funnier when they completely mess up tasks. We all love it when a crucial error has been made and each episode contains many of these. The applicants are split into two teams, with the losing team being brought back into the boardroom for Lord Sugar to question them on what went wrong, where ultimately at least one person will be fired (ie no longer in the process). This leads to many a backtrack and shifting the blame as the applicants try to save themselves from a potential firing. Each team is observed by one of Alan's advisers, with Nick and Margaret being the stars for the first five series, Karren replacing Margaret and Claude recently replacing Nick. Nick's funny facial expressions and put-downs in the boardroom have made him my favourite advisor and it was gutting to see him leave. The editing of the show is perfect and really helps make it, as it portrays each applicant to look more useless than they actually are, with it revelling in any mistakes. It helps exploit many hilarious moments and it really is so entertaining to watch. Since the prize change, it has become slightly frustrating as the retention of the previous format means that an applicant could be the best yet still be fired due to a great business plan. Ultimately though, the lack in format change is actually a good thing as it highlights that there is a winning format which does not need to change. It will always create an entertaining and hilarious watch.
