The song was written by Ina Wroldsen and Steve Mac, who also produced the song. The single was released digitally on 22 May 2011. "Notorious" was recorded in 2011 after the band were looking for a new sound to release in their third album. According to the lyrics in the song the band are loving life, they like to go out and enjoy themselves however they work hard and they all have a bad and naughty side to them. The lyrics of the song has been described as "playful". Vanessa White said the song was a more "grown up" approach to the music they have released before. The group performed the song live for the first time on So You Think You Can Dance and the song received its first radio airplay on The Chris Moyles Show. "Notorious" received mainly positive reviews from critics. It gained comparisons to the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna and Kelis. Some critics labelled the song as "quite amazing" and "big" and "a bit Black Eyed Peas-esque". It song was also praised for the big production of the song. Aled Jones described the song as "unexpected" from the group. It has also been said that the all-girl group are bringing a tougher, edgier sound. Yahoo! Music questioned the song if it was enough, stating; "a bad girl", short skirts, nice hair, rave breakdown - but is it enough?".

November 7, 20159 yr Author Critical Reception "Notorious" gained positive reviews from critics; many blogs were praising the song. PopJustice said the song was "big" and that it was "quite amazing". It's a bit Black Eyed Peas-esque, feels a tiny bit like Kelis and Rihanna, and has a strong, propulsive energy that builds throughout the tune". Digital Spy stated; "I'm a big boss, I'm a gangster, On the dance floor" Mollie King announces on the squeaky, Auto-Tuned intro, before dropping a high-wired, club-pumping beat the Black Eyed Peas would cock a snook at. "I'm a bad girl, I'm notorious" insists Rochelle Wiseman, while a storm of synths, strings and techno beeps brews behind them. The result isn't quite as instant as the lyrics would suggest, but there's no doubting they talk a good game. Giving the song a four out of five stars. Music Entertainment said, "The Saturdays are back and they are bringing a tougher, edgier sound." Radio presenter Aled Jones took to Twitter and tweeted, "Just heard the new songs from The Saturdays and Black Eyed Peas :) didn't expect The Saturdays song to sound like it did!" Yahoo! Music stated The Saturdays are pulling out all the big guns - talk of being "a bad girl", short skirts, nice hair, rave breakdown - but is it enough? The five-piece will truly be notorious if they don't take the crown when their rivals have been on the canvas for so long. Heat World said the band turn "transform" into sexy secretaries into sexy clubbers and they’re nearly giving Britney [spears] a run for her money.
November 7, 20159 yr A part of the holy trinity of singles that is On Your Radar. Still inside my top 25 most played overall on iTunes!
November 7, 20159 yr Author Buzzjack Reception    AHHHHHHHH If there's ever been a guilty pleasure it's this! Love it so much.. and I can't get over how good looking una is especially in this video! Though I'm not as keen on this version of the song, I much prefer the remix, though I'm sure that's just cos I'm used to that version now. Kinda like listening to the freemasons remix of green light and then listening to the original  Oooh Love it on first listen. Video is great too. I LOVE the video. It's easily their best to date. Amazing cinematography and they attitude is great. The song is definitely a grower. It's catchy but not too obvious, so it doesn't get burned off at the first listens. AMAZING. Will comment properly when I get back. But this is a definite SMASH if ever I heard one! I love it so much! Love the introduction, wasn't expecting that from the remix so that was a nice surprise. The beginning part of the video is amazing too, love the secretary look haha. Plus, Frankie's part is ! Really hope this is a big hit for them.  :w00t: :puke2: (LOL) That was so worth waking up even the slightest bit earlier :) I love it love it love it. Cannot wait to see it performed live :P
November 7, 20159 yr Author Easily my favourite Sats song, and also the song that made me become a Sats loon
November 7, 20159 yr Thanks for doing this Joseph! Nice to see you here as well :) My love for Notorious has sort of gone in waves. When I first discovered the girls during the end of the OYR era I just didn't understand the song. I listened to it a few times and the lack of a discernible chorus made it hard for me to get into it. Then as I got more into the OYR album and give it a few more spins it really started to click. About a year or two later I got really into the Almighty Remix and that sort of sealed the deal for me. I'm so pleased it's finally gone Silver and it is hands down one of their best music videos. I love how it jumps from Frankie to Una to Rochelle to Mollie with ad libs from Vanessa in the last 30 seconds as well. It's different.
November 14, 20159 yr Literally their top 3 best single and that is like their best performance ever! 'Notorious' was MY jam, seriously. I was literally obsessed with it in 2011. I would be singing Mollie's intro every-f***ing-where and my friends were beyond pissed. Like some were probably closed to commit murder, that's how annoying I was with the constant singing.
November 15, 20159 yr I heard the Chuckie Remix of this one first and not realising it was a remix I was like omfg Sats what have you done! Then I heard the single version and omfg! Such a tune!
November 16, 20159 yr The Chuckie Edit is f***ING BALLS tho. I love it so much. It gives the song even more strenght, it's amazing.
November 16, 20159 yr I can't believe how radio never supported this because it immediately went top 10 in the official charts, I guess it goes to show how strong The Saturday's fanbase was strong following 'Headlines'.
November 18, 20159 yr The airplay for 'Notorious' is so disappointing, I couldn't begin to imagine how it would have performed had it not been reduced to 59p. I can't believe this is their only Graham Norton performance but the live performances of 'Notorious' were so f***ing good, I'm still delighted it managed to pass 200,000 sales which is more than their held back singles. Fun fact: 'Notorious' was meant for Nicole Scherzinger.
November 18, 20159 yr Mollie's intro is definitely really interesting, especially live. I really can't picture any of the other girls doing it? Ina did say that Notorious was meant for Nicole, indeed. Although, at first, it had a "werewolf" theme. The demo is apparently out there (an insider heard it). I can't wait til it leaks!
November 18, 20159 yr The video should of had the girls with werewolf eyes and fangs, that would have been awesome.
