November 24, 201510 yr I didn't say it doesn't deserve to do well just because I'm not a fan of it. If you read my posts properly, I mentioned about hype and also even some of the critics have said its not that good. Clearly, my opinion on its own is not worth much relevance but I know I'm not the only person who thinks she doesn't deserve to sell the amount she has. There's lots of people who don't think Oasis deserve to have the one week sales record in the UK, or that Nsync deserve to have the one week sales record in the USA, or that Utada deserves to have the one week sales record, or that Bieber set singles sales records, or that Westlife had so many #1s, or blah blah blah I could go on forever. As for hype, every successful act in the world ever has sold music because of hype. The Beatles, Elvis, everyone. That's how the music industry works. As for critics.. there are critical reviews for every act ever. The fact is, the people who wanted that music mentioned above , bought it. Nobody forced them to, nobody tricked them. If someone wants an album, and then buys an album, that album sale is deserved.
November 24, 201510 yr Of course we'll have to see how she does in the long run, but I could see her topping the 2015, 2016 and 2017 album charts
November 24, 201510 yr Adele sold 77k on Monday giving her a 4 day total of 615k. so around the same as Sunday. What's your source?
November 24, 201510 yr All commercially popular albums are panned by the critics who are usually snobs when it comes to the art. They're not all snobs, they're just looking for some consistently high quality music. Most of them have been around long enough to be objective about popular music and in general I agree with them.
November 24, 201510 yr I still remember when Q gave 5 stars to Stadium Arcadium, le unbiased critics :)
November 24, 201510 yr Author Mint Royale @MintRoyale 36m36 minutes ago Adele is slowing, only 77,000 sold yesterday. I would say that technically Oasis are still top dog, given their three day release week.
November 24, 201510 yr His tweet makes no sense at all? What were Oasis selling in the 4th day I'm sure it wasn't 77k.
November 24, 201510 yr Author Yeah "slowing" .... with the same amount as yesterday. "only" with 77k in her 4th day...
November 24, 201510 yr Mint Royale as clueless as always, he really shouldn't comment He didn't know Oasis had a shortened week until 2 days ago when someone told him on twitter. BHN first 7 days were 763,735 weren't they? That seems just about achievable
November 24, 201510 yr Be Here Now started very high (higher than 25) but dropped much much faster... from day 4 on, Be Here Now was just selling 25K per day... so yes Mint Royale, same as Adele...
November 24, 201510 yr Plus BHN stopped well short of 2 million. I can't see 25 doing that. Edited November 24, 201510 yr by Cauldron
November 24, 201510 yr Yeah "slowing" .... with the same amount as yesterday. "only" with 77k in her 4th day... There may be a question of availability - some shops will have run out, given the unprecedented demand?
November 24, 201510 yr To me it is rather an academic debate re: be here now. Oasis knew that by releasing on a Thursday they would lose half a week sales but it suited them as it coincided with A level day, so in doing so they sold the 600+k in their first "week" which was their choice. Adele will break the record by tomorrow.
