December 6, 20159 yr Author 83. Martin Solveig ft. Sam White - +1 -uRi_xo92VE Total points: 184 Chart run: 22-4-9-13-15-22-23-36 Whilst Intoxicated never charted here, follow up +1 did big things, peaking at #4 and lasting 2 months in the top 40. I really love the thumping production in this, a track that demands your attention and it certainly got it. It's a shame Intoxicated appears to have overshadowed this as this is a far superior effort but who knows? This has only just been released in the UK so I'll be following its (hopefully) well deserved chart run carefully.
December 6, 20159 yr ew no @ 5SOS but :music: to Frequency and +1  I prefer the instrumental one myself.
December 6, 20159 yr Author 82. Koo - Sail Away y53r8PpLfC0 Total points: 187 Chart run: 24-18-25-21-14-15-31-36-X-18-25-37 Now this was one of those random YouTube finds we can all relate to on a flippant browsing session and whilst the majority of those I come across amount to nothing, this particular track had enough about it to chart. The soft vocals and heavy instrumentals are vastly different but manage to blend quite effectively, I am in LOVE with that drop in particular  The track builds up and bursts into life making for a thrilling listen. It re-entered a full 6 months after its initial run following its involvement in BJSC and as for the artist? I know nothing about her other than the fact she looks more than a bit like Skrillex :kink:
December 6, 20159 yr Author 81. Nelly ft. Jeremih - The Fix fTUIT-E3oYQ Total points: 191 Chart run: 13-5-9-10-11-25-27-37 Nelly has made many a tune throughout the years and this really was no different! A really good sample of Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing, brought up the present day in an extremely dirty and unsubtle track; and featuring man-in-demand Jeremih who puts in a great hook on top. This failed to set the charts alight (save Australia weirdly) but had a good run here if not particularly long-lasting.
December 7, 20159 yr Hi Dobbo Oh no, She's Kinda Hot was horrible, I quite liked a few songs from their debut album but this was just tuneless and had odd talky type verses/chorus, just sounded so weird - really bad song imo :/ Hey Everybody was way better but nobody liked that on here  The Fix is a jam, great used of sample, I like them in urban songs like Don't Tell 'Em and it worked very well here too, thought it was going to be a bigger hit here actually :(
December 8, 20159 yr We need that fix, that medicine... :music: :music: I was kinda surprised that Sounds Good Feels Good had more of a punk rock feel. It was sort of like them to establish their sound as among the Blink-182's and the Panic! At The Disco's of this decade. (Though none of them have a patch on Brendon Urie :kink:) "She's Kinda Hot" was a bit on the borderline between teenybopper pop and punk rock, so I have to admit I was a bit on edge with it.
December 8, 20159 yr Never really got 'Frequency' but absolutely loved the Becky Hill remix so looking forward to that. "+1" is seriously banging too and I loved "The Fix" for a few weeks.
December 9, 20159 yr Love The Fix. Sounds like the songs Nelly used to make, but with a modern production and a great Jeremih hook (what a year he's had too).
December 13, 20159 yr Author +1 this low?! (but obviously yay for its inclusion!) Did drop fairly quick after its peak but there were a lot of great dance tracks this year  ew no @ 5SOS but :music: to Frequency and +1  I prefer the instrumental one myself. Both are very good but I lean towards the vocal version this time, Becky Hill always seems to make it even better (just like with Afterglow & Gecko!) Hi Dobbo Oh no, She's Kinda Hot was horrible, I quite liked a few songs from their debut album but this was just tuneless and had odd talky type verses/chorus, just sounded so weird - really bad song imo :/ Hey Everybody was way better but nobody liked that on here  The Fix is a jam, great used of sample, I like them in urban songs like Don't Tell 'Em and it worked very well here too, thought it was going to be a bigger hit here actually :( It's not too dissimilar to their first album singles IMO so it had a similar effect on me, much prefer their uptempos anyway. That said I haven't really given their new album a listen. If it was Jeremih ft. Nelly I could definitely have seen it do something I don't think Nelly has the selling power anymore (which made Hey Porsche a bizarre success). I did prefer Don't Tell 'Em :music: She's Kinda Hot is so good, my favourite 5SOS song  I still prefer She Looks So Perfect & Don't Stop but as long as they keep doing tracks like this I'll be satsfied. We need that fix, that medicine... Yeah they're really only rivalling One Direction in terms of global boybands so needed to have a bit more of a rockier sound or else they'd just blend into 1D's pop stranglehold. The music they make is quite a good sound I think but its the cheesy lyrics that stop them from being taken more seriously. I don't mind myself though if the songs are catchy enough  Never really got 'Frequency' but absolutely loved the Becky Hill remix so looking forward to that. "+1" is seriously banging too and I loved "The Fix" for a few weeks. Yeah I prefer the vocal version, made it a bit more standout. Both of those tracks deserved better chart success! :( Love The Fix. Sounds like the songs Nelly used to make, but with a modern production and a great Jeremih hook (what a year he's had too). He sure has! Gone from only feature on 1 or 2 hits every 3 years to being everywhere  I never got round to checking the album out however. Koo and Martin Solveig :music:  Not two acts you'll be seeing on many lists together! ;) Thanks for all comments up to this point :D
December 13, 20159 yr Author 80. QT - Hey QT 1MQUleX1PeA Total points: 192 Chart run: 15-12-14-16-26-34-28-33-34-36-29-34-31-40 Oh how I love quirky songs like this! Discovered mainly through hype from this site I knew from the very listen I would be a fan. I have a soft spot for pitched up vocals (as shown by my love for techno band Scooter) but this had such an infectious side to it too it was stuck in the head for weeks. The eventual video was just as fun as the track too. It was very unlucky to miss the top 10 but lasted in the chart for 14 weeks in total which more than made up for that.
December 13, 20159 yr Author 79. Jacob Plant ft. Example - Reflections 08a0CXzOnUY Total points: 194 Chart run: 2-2-9-9-12-18 Example had a brief flirt with the chart on his comeback track Whiskey Story but it was his collaboration with Jacob Plant that so nearly earned him a #1. Having never really paid much attention to Plant's work beforehand it was the Example feature that brought about my interest in this but aside from the usual solid vocal efforts this track truly packed a punch! A real abrasive dance track with a crazy good drop put Jacob Plant right on my map and whilst I doubt this will achieve any commercial success it was only prevented #1 on this chart by Philip George's Alone No More and still remains in the current top 40.
December 13, 20159 yr Author 78. Beth Sherburn ft. Lil Wayne - Joker SblU7RBiIes Total points: 195 Chart run: 4-6-9-12-15-21-31-35 Another random YouTube find appears next, although the Lil Wayne feature aroused more interest than a usual track would. Again, someone who I really know nothing about apart the from she used to work in reatil and was "discovered" by some dude in music (Philip George style), enough to warrant dropping a track. But this is a track I weirdly loved for much of the latter half of 2014 and its only because the interest was waning by the time I started posting charts that this isn't any higher. A very strong hook and catchy production topped off by a drum and bass outro, it really had many ingredients I love in a track. The only negative is that Lil Wayne sounds even more robotic than ever before, plus could his "input" have been any more half-arsed?
December 13, 20159 yr Author 77. Olly Murs ft. Travie McCoy - Wrapped Up niLMQsD9ZG4 Total points: 203 Chart run: 21-8-12-9-20-17-24-25-36-35 Another 2014 leftover now, but with a run extending into early 2015, in the shape of Olly Murs with Wrapped Up. This was his first lead single to miss #1 officially but at present, it is my favourite of that particular group. It didn't start off that way, taking more than a few listens to fully click but once it did it was always an enjoyable listen. As we've come to expect with Olly Murs tracks now they're usually pretty vibrant and upbeat and this really was no different. The Travie McCoy feature proved somewhat pointless but that didn't undo the rest of the song which had a bit of an up-and-down chart life here.
December 13, 20159 yr Author 76. Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney - FourFiveSeconds kt0g4dWxEBo Total points: 205 Chart run: 8-8-10-4-6-22-30-35 Ah yes Rihanna at last returned with new material in 2015 but with material really no one could see coming! An acoustic, downtempo ode to looking forward to a wild weekend, not something we see a lot of in truth. I, myself was a bit puzzled with the track at first what with it sounding almost "unfinished" and like coming straight out of an arbitrary studio session but there just seems to be something about Rihanna that makes me warm to many of her tracks, whatever their sound or genre. This had me singing along for over a month as it spent 5 weeks of it 8 in total within the top 10 before succumbing to a very steep drop thereafter. Suffice to say her follow ups weren't as good but at least we've had one good song this relatively wretched era!
December 13, 20159 yr The Fix was quite a good comeback from Nelly although it should have done better in the chart :( Hey QT was such a great song, I had it a similar chart run in my chart too :P Reflections as usual with Example :music: and Wrapped Up just sounds like a Bruno Mars Treasure rip off for me :( it's ok though. 45S is still so boring though  The Him remix is great however.
December 13, 20159 yr Hey QT was okay but the vocals are a bit too pitchy. Never got big in my chart. Reflections was really poor, I miss the days when Example made good songs. FourFiveSeconds was surprisingly great, shame her career has gone downhill since.
