49. Martin Tungevaag & ItaloBrothers - Springfield

Total points: 262

Chart run: 7-4-5-7-10-12-17-23-22

Martin Tungevaag, the artist responsible for my #1 track of 2014, Wicked Wonderland, returned in a big way in 2015 with this beauty. The Norwegian DJ this time teaming up with another of my favourite eurodance groups in recent years, ItaloBrothers. On paper, this looked RIGHT up my street (not least due to the title alone, a hugely popular dance festival namedropped) and it really did not disappoint. The track gets right to it straight away with some lovely female vocals nestling over an increasingly fast-paced techno beat, all leading up to THAT drop which blew me right away. A crazy good, all round package which delivers on so many levels and perhaps should have had a far longer run in the chart than it did and consequently a higher position in this year-end chart.

48. Martin Garrix & Tiësto - The Only Way Is Up

Total points: 263

Chart run: 2-1-1-1-6-13-25-25-33-40

We finally reach the first number 1 to have its whole chart life counted in this countdown appear. Martin Garrix came out of nowhere in 2013, delivering of my all time favourite #1s in Animals. He followed up with the almost as brilliant Wizard but since then has been rather hit and miss. Tiësto, who of course needs no introduction, had been delivering gems for many years before finally breaking through in a fully commercial way in 2014. When I saw this collaboration, the old working with the young, I had extremely high hopes it would rank among both of their best... and it sure did. Another track which is just all about that drop  this has some stunning instrumental work right the way through and it felt like a piece of magic among the first few listens. It debuted at #2 behind Joe Stone's 'The Party' but climbed to spend 3 weeks at the summit. It then tailed off rather quickly but this is a song I can always enjoy in any mood.

47. Kygo (feat. Conrad Sewell) - Firestone

Total points: 272

Chart run: 5-6-3-4-5-5-12-17-40

The tropical house sensation that took off last year lands in at #47. Kygo's Firestone encapsulates all that is great about the subgenre, really beautiful, relaxing production topped off with a remarkable instrumental drop that dominated airwaves across all platforms. This was a track that I personally took a long time to come around to, ironically not finding it very standout upon initial listens or being too keen on Conrad's vocal input. Both of those weren't to last however and it entered my top 40 the same week it entered officially. Spending 6 weeks in the top 10, it had a huge drop in its ninth week during a spell in which I was becoming a bit tiring of it and it couldn't quite recover enough ground to re-enter. Nevertheless it's a true dance highlight of 2015 that couldn't be rivalled in its respective genre.

46. Darius & Finlay - Tropicali

Total points: 274

Rounding off a very eurodance heavy section it's Austrian producers Darius & Finlay with their wonderfully summer-themed track Tropicali. Now this is one of those tracks I simply cannot dislike, reminding me perfectly of holidays on the beach, away from all the stresses of everyday life, free of any cares and responsibilities. Listing off numerous Caribbean islands the song bounces along with a signature hands-in-the-air chorus recurring throughout. Despite taking an almighty tumble in its second week it recovered commendably well enough to even repeak, managing 13 weeks on the chart in total.

Wow that's some stanning for that Garrix song! :o great as per usual, he's had better tunes though. Quite a short run for a #1 3-weeker :o

I expected to see Firestone top 10 here for some reason, too low :(

didn't realise The Only Way Is Up had such a short run for you considering its 3 weeks at number one ;0

Firestone should be higher you silly bean.

This. Kygo is so unique in his sounds, its as if he takes tropical house and makes it his own, theres something so recognizable about his melodies and sounds

I'd say only Animals & Wizard top it for me :D it was a pretty short run though, very similar to Locked Away (another 3-weeker).

It is far too low I agree but gotta go with the stats even if I personally would rate it near the top 20!

Probably the most "non-#1" I've ever had, although 3 weeks at the top dispel that otherwise.

You are right it should be higher, think I had one week where I was tiring of it a bit seeing as it was by then everywhere and it never quite recovered enough to re-enter :/

"The Only Way Is Up" is a prime example of how generic can be experimental at the same time.

Very much so! Bit of a change to sound this year (including the rather below par Don't Look Down) which is always risky but it worked with this one.

Absolutely. One of those producer's who youy can easily tell who's track it is, a bit like Avicii.

45. R. City (feat. Adam Levine) - Locked Away

Chart run: 2-1-1-1-4-11-21-23-34-40-37

Another #1 appears next in the form of production duo R. City. I knew very little about them as artists prior to this track, only the knowledge of a few of their most successfully produced tracks but this was a really impressive song I could not stop playing. The addition of Adam Levine on vocal duties is always a hit or miss factor but the majority of tracks he's featured on a soloist (Stereo Hearts, My Life) I've been a big fan of. This one was no different either, bringing in one of the catchiest hooks I heard last year, a sample in itself. It did get tiring rather quickly however and suffered a similar fate to fellow 3-week #1er, The Only Way Is Up with a sharp decline from the summit.

44. Diplo & Sleepy Tom - Be Right There

Total points: 277

Chart run: 17-15-19-14-9-4-10-15-16-14

The must-have producer of 2015, Diplo was part-responsible for two of the most successful tracks of last year in Lean On & Where Are U Now. He again teamed up to produce another banger with Canadian DJ Sleepy Tom. A sample of the early nineties R&B track, Don't Walk Away, the song keeps much of the vocal loops but throws in a dancefloor-filling drop which earned him another UK top 10 single. It was a little different to the sound we've been accustomed to from Diplo but was still highly effective and equally addictive to the original. It managed a very stable run here eventually peaking at #4.

43. Calvin Harris (feat. John Newman) - Blame

Chart run: 9-19-23-14-17-18-19-19-21-26-27-32-22-32-39

A long-runner from 2014 making it into the top half of 2015. Calvin had a great 2014 with both Summer & Blame ranking among my favourites ever of his. Blame in particular was a track which clicked from the first listen. Brilliant instrumentals including some glorious synth topped off with John Newman's best input to any song (IMO), this was right up there with the best the year had to offer. A run which would have started many months before the 14-15 cutoff, it managed 15 weeks in this window.

42. Stylo G (feat. Gyptian) - My Number 1

Total points: 279

Chart run:3-5-7-11-10-12-21-17-26-26-34

I really do love songs like these. Overly happy, summer-friendly reggae fusion tracks that you cannot help but smiling along to and embrace the positivity of. Stylo G was back with another summer bop last year that really deserved to do at least as well if not better than his signature song Soundbwoy, which I always forget how good it is until hearing it. Also seemingly brought back from the abyss was rapper Gyptian - the artist behind another great fave of mine - Hold Yuh. The two together really brought out one of the most infectious tracks I heard all year and it probably would have performed even better had it been premiered just a month prior.

41. Watermät, Becky Hill & TAI - All My Love

Total points: 279

Chart run:6-4-2-1-1-7-11-27-32

As we have already seen in this countdown I was a big fan of the original version of this track, said Frequency, so when I caught wind of a vocal version in the works I had my reservations. A superfluous vocal addition isn't always the most ideal method to improve on a track (see Tinie Tempah on Tsunmai or Ane Brun on Can't Stop Playing) but finding out it was Becky Hill certainly gave me more assurance it was in good hands (see Gecko (Overdrive)). Her vocals elevate the song to a new level, just an excellent addition which has put her right up there among my favourite female singers of this day and age. It steadily climbed to #1 for a fortnight and is unlucky to hold the distinction of biggest drop from #1 due to an abnormally busy week which followed.

Stylo G & Gyptian! :cheer: Love the name-checks for Hold Yuh and Soundbwoy too, both fantastic songs.

Look forward to some highlights in your Top 40.

Locked Away & Be Right There are both very infectious but I never liked them enough to listen of my own accord. I always sing along when their on though.

LikE Locked Away, Be Right There :music: and Blame

All My Love is quite good but I prefer the more bangin' Frequency :music:
