Wiz Khalifa f/Charlie Puth - "See You Again" Chart Points: 9165 Soundtrack single, Furious 7: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Chart Run: 42-29-2-3-4-9-13-15-21-24-33-45 (12 weeks) RgKAFK5djSk I don't understand why people hate this song; it's probably one of the most relatable and heartfelt songs on mainstream radio today. This song was part of Furious 7, a movie which pretty much became a tribute to Paul Walker after his tragic passing months ago. I understand people have some kind of apathy towards Charlie Puth (he has a punchable face, I get that), but tone hating on a song that could make most people cry is kinda disheartening. Anyway, looking at the lyrics, this song was also beautifully written, and the heart and soul of this track can be translated in so many different ways. I was watching the Austin & Ally series finale and thought about this song. That's how powerful its legacy is.

Disclosure f/Lorde - "Magnets" Chart Points: 9255 4th single, Caracal Chart Run: 40-36-26-21-23-17-15-12-12-10-9-10... (12 weeks) b_KfnGBtVeA Next up is the song that I really want to smash in the US; to be honest, I'm getting tired of Disclosure being branded as a one-hit wonder in countries other than the UK and down under because a lot of people have only heard "Latch". This song is much more seductive and powerful. It features Lorde (see, more of Taylor Swift's squad) taking on the power of UK garage/deep house with such flawlessness and grace. This is the one thing that I want to hear from Lorde because it's the perfect blend of electro/dance beats and the kind of indie pop she always pulls off. This is by far the best track on Caracal and it need to be pushed in the US NOW.

Well, it's not really Maddie singing this song but you get my drift. This song first charted back at the end of 2013 when Catching Fire was still getting a lot of hype and we had officially seen Asia come back to the forefront of music. Then it gets released as a single following the success of "Chandelier" and guess who she brings with her? It's not just Maddie but Shia LaBeouf joins the party - yes, the same guy who popularized "JUST... DO IT!!!". Anyway, I prefer the Hunger Games version featuring The Weeknd because he just fit so well with the song that it just seemed weird to take him out. Diplo's production is also top-notch here, so it's a win-win-win situation all around.

You may remember by the end of February, Taylor Swift decided it would be a good idea to release her Target bonus tracks onto iTunes one by one, and chart rules defines this as a promo single, so poof, it was released and it landed on the chart a few days later. This was one of the songs that I honestly couldn't believe was not on the standard track list, mainly because it was way too good to be kept hidden for so long. I also wanted Taylor Swift to re-release just so this could become a part of a standard track list and eventually become a single. I have no regrets chatting this song, and it's pretty clear that you can't escape the power of Taylor for so long.

Yeah, it was pretty much a giant tragedy for Zayn to up and leave just like that and that may or may not have contributed to the band's downfall, but the guy's gotta live his life and although that normal life may be impossible to get, at least he's happy. In fact, that's pretty much what the video is about - five guys wanting to be happy with their girlfriends but the world has other plans. (OMG AT BI!ZAYN) I never thought I would get into another second single ballad again after "Story Of My Life" became such a huge hit, but the boys impressed me once more with this insightful track. The "just how fast the night changes" line is a bit cryptic though...
January 12, 20169 yr Author Who am I without you by my side? http://i.imgur.com/PauiXH1.jpg 59.) The first time I heard this was on the radio on my way to a restaurant in San Diego, and I thought it could become a hit worldwide. For Shaggy's comeback, it was a nice segue back to his original sound that he became famous for. It almost reminds me of "Bailando" part 2, only this song charted in the US during the spring (it smashed in the summer in the UK, but who's keeping track?). Faydee is also pretty nice judging from his contribution to the song and his back catalog. I could do with Mohombi or Costi, but I'm pretty sure they're pivotal to this song anyway.

I had seen the "Super Selfie" video before and it was pretty innovative, so to see Beyoncé take inspiration for such moves was pretty interesting. The result was an adrenaline rush for a song; it just takes you on a ride and the slick production turns any place you're in into a party. I appreciate it for being mindless because it's those types of party jams that gets people drinking and having fun. I guess that's why most people hate it when used in a different concept.

(16+ weeks) b-eYbUVZedY I tend to like a lot of artists that my sister hates, and Halsey, unfortunately, has to be one of them. Quirky indie alternative seems to be the norm among Tumblr users, and when Halsey first came onto the mainframe, a lot of people there went crazy. Of course, the first song I heard from her was "Ghost" and hopefully that can get an opportunity to chart after the next single comes out. "New Americana" takes on a view of society's capitalist views clouded by the American Dream to "Go big or go home" and stuff like that. Of course more money means more problems and she acknowledges that. It's both a sullen ode and something really depressing, and while normally it equates to something I would hate, there's something about Halsey's voice that kinda attracts me to this song.

Hailee Steinfeld first got her start through various movies including Pitch Perfect 2, where she showcased her singing ability. One thing lead to another and she ended up releasing a single by August. You can tell this excited Ryan. Well, she definitely did not disappoint, as it ended up being a pop jam/self-confidence booster anthem that anyone can sing out loud in the car, despite most people theorizing that the song it about masturbation. The "I love me!" transitions into the chorus are probably the most infectious lines in the entire thing, and they truly fulfill the "anthem" portion of the song. In this song, she proves that she doesn't need a man to go "HAILEE!!!" to satisfy her; she can just do that all by herself.

(12+ weeks) gYPqJ7wqjTM Give me that caaaaaaaan't sleeeeeeeep looooove    Pentatonix are an acapella group who got their start in the reality singing competition The Sing-Off (which they won!!!) and ended up becoming super famous on YouTube for their amazing cover compilations. Scott and Mitch also host their own YouTube channel called SuperFruit, and they get asked some PTX questions there as well. Anyway, the have since released their first studio album with a mix of original songs and covers, and the lead single is absolute FIRE. This was one of the songs I hoped would catch on in the Buzzjack mainframe, let alone across the world, but alas nothing is meant to be. The best parts about this song are Scott's voice, Mitch's falsetto and Tink's rap. I honestly thought Mitch stole the show here, but the song is cohesive on its own anyway. Also this was an act I considered for the Christmas BJSC spin-off.

I was kinda intrigued by the way the song is about to build into an "I Knew You Were Trouble" drop, but it never really climaxes into that part. I also loved the quirky video showing both the young and present-day side of herself, being assaulted by different children's activities and random clowns. It has a certain aesthetic that makes you think of a Tumblr blog but with some kind of an edge. I was a bit disappointed to see it flop in the US and subsequently overall, but this song is a true hidden gem and I'm glad that I never got sick and tired of it.

(24+ weeks) UKp2CrfmVfw I guess right now you've got the last laugh... From there, it just became an adventure. For me, it kinda explains my entire freshman year of college: I was never really the party type until then, and the first party I went to, the only people I knew were my roommates and some other friends, including a person from my high school. People were crazy in their freshman year, experimenting with drinking and vaping and all that stuff and it was a bit out of my element seeing people that young get drunk. This song illustrates the confusion she feels as the antisocial person of the group. Now, back when I heard it in BJSC, it didn't click with me as much as it did now, and I think it was one of the most undeserved DNQ's there (yay for it getting justice in Rejects!), and now it's become this huge hit. MATH HOW DO YOU DO IT. TEACH ME YOUR SECRETS.

Tropical house? Check. Sample that everyone will recognize and go nuts over? Check. That's what got it to do so well in BJSC (and less so in TBO), and eventually in real life as it got the UK #1 in probably one of the biggest standoffs in the UK charts this year (not counting "Jess Glynne didn't f*cking deserve it again"). It was an infectious dance jam that refused to go unnoticed, as it just sped through the pre-orders and was even slated to be a #1 before "What Do You Mean?" was even a thing. Once again, I don't know how people end up finding artists or songs that just become giant hits. It also helped that the video had hip-hop dancing in it.

Nu Pitbull. In all seriousness, this was the true standout from their collaboration album, and while it didn't seem to be among the bro step that Skrillex usually does ("Bangarang"  ), it proved that he was capable of other dance sub-genres, in this case, the tribal trap style that he introduced to us with Recess. Diplo's contribution was also through the trap-like influence of the song. I guess its legacy remains within the Purpose album, as there are many more Skrillex-related songs in the standard track list.
