25.) Ariana Grande - My Everything
Cody Recommends: "Love Me Harder" | "Hands On Me" | "Break Free"

24.) Pentatonix - Pentatonix
Cody Recommends: "Can't Sleep Love" | "Sing" | "Ref"

23.) Years & Years - Communion
Cody Recommends: "Desire" | "Take Shelter" | "Eyes Shut"

22.) 5 Seconds Of Summer - Sounds Good Feels Good
Cody Recommends: "Money" | "Hey Everybody!" | "Jet Black Heart"

21.) One Direction - Made In The A.M.
Cody Recommends: "What A Feeling" | "Perfect" | "Olivia"

Kicking things off with this group is my favorite album of 2014: Ariana Grande's. It took a while to decide which one would be my prime recommendation, so I'm just gonna say all three. Core boy band 1D also drops out with Made In The A.M. which could be easily mistaken for a Fleetwood Mac album due to its classic rock sound among others. In the more modern side of the spectrum, we have 5SOS, taking inspiration from early 2000's punk. Years & Years also come out in this group with their electronic "this is sorta what Medina should be doing" sounding album.

Then there's Pentatonix. Probably one of the most innovative albums considering they're an acapella group who have successfully tackled many different genres. While "Can't Sleep Love" brings out the soda parlor doo-wop that has been tried by Mark Ronson and Meghan Trainor, that's not all they have to offer: "Sing" is different from Ed Sheeran's of the same name and sounds like an X Ambassadors track, while "Ref" sounds like something that could have been featured on Empire.

David_Guetta_-_Hey_Mama_(feat._Nicki_Minaj,_Bebe_Rexha_and_Afrojack).png

40.) David Guetta f/Nicki Minaj, Afrojack & Bebe Rexha - "Hey Mama"
Chart Points: 13072
4th single, Listen
Chart Run: 40-31-11-2-4-6-7-6-9-10-13-17-20-27-35-42 (16 weeks)

Kickstarting the top 40 right now is David Guetta with a song that could make Dan revoke his "I love dance music" card. Mixing tribal-sounding military chants with trap and Afrojack's synth contribution, "Hey Mama" proves to live up to the legacy "Turn Me On" provided for Guetta/Nicki collabs (sorta) and the added Bebe Rexha performed hook solidifies the deal. It's one of those songs to twerk to when no one is around; it's that sexy. Of course, this was the big Guetta hit that I've been eagerly waiting for and more, so I'm glad that it ended up being a worldwide smash and not a US misfire.

Roses_(featuring_ROZES)_(Official_Single_Cover)_by_The_Chainsmokers.png

39.) The Chainsmokers f/ROZES - "Roses"
Chart Points: 13152
2nd single, Bouquet EP
Chart Run: 49-46-36-32-28-24-18-16-15-11-11-6-5-3-3... (15+ weeks)

Another giant end-of-the-year smash comes in at #39, probably helped by its own longevity - it took 15 weeks to peak! I had never actually thought that The Chainsmokers would actually make it big again especially after the quick rise and fall of "#Selfie" (one of my top songs of 2014), but here they are. It's pretty much their most experimental song yet, but it still remains just as pop as their other efforts. Now poised to become a giant hit for 2016, they're looking to keep this momentum going. At first I thought this song had a pretty weak drop, but now I think it was probably their most creative one in their discography.

Ellie Goulding barely scraping the Radio 1 play tho

Good to see you rate Y&Y and Ariana albums. Hey Mama is a little underwhelming for a Guetta song. Roses is good :D

Thanks for the love, you guys!

But at least we'll both be beautiful and stay forever young...

Can't_Feel_My_Face_by_The_Weeknd.png

38.) The Weeknd - "Can't Feel My Face"

Chart Points: 13243

2nd single, Beauty Behind The Madness

Chart Run: 38-31-26-20-12-6-2-2-3-7-11-18-23-27-33-41 (16 weeks)

The last entry by The Weeknd comes in at #38, arguably his best and most successful song yet. After hitting it big with "Earned It", he gets groovy and releases this single which ended up getting pushed first before "The Hills", which was released a week prior. This was actually one of the songs that I ended up getting into right after I got back from Europe because by then, it was being spammed on the radio (rightfully). As a consequence, it had a quick rise and a just as quick drop. I like the Michael Jackson feel of the song, really takes me back to those days when all I would hear was MJ.

37.) Audien f/Lady Antebellum - "Something Better"
Chart Points: 13488
Lead single, Daydreams EP
Chart Run: 46-41-24-20-17-8-5-6-3-5-9-13-20-23-26... (15+ weeks)

Okay, back in 2014 I really got into "Serotonin" and then I loved "Insomnia", so I had some really high expectations for "Something Better". At first, I wasn't sure if I had the capacity to get into this song, but the second it began to take off in the US, I gave it another try and it became an instant fave for me. Audien has this penchant for songs that sound a bit like a Zedd production (like his remix of "Chains"), and this was no exception: It's a beautiful and carefree EDM single albeit a bit generic. Lady Antebellum killed it in the vocals - I never thought Hillary Scott would sound so good in a dance track, but I was absolutely blown away by how well their voices mesh together.

Marvin_Gaye_by_Charlie_Puth.png

36.) Charlie Puth f/Meghan Trainor - "Marvin Gaye"
Chart Points: 13599
Lead single, Nine Track Mind
Chart Run: 49-45-44-45-36-38-38-34-25-20-10-8-8-7-7-10-11-15-16-15-20-26-35-42 (24 weeks)

LET'S MARVIN GAYE AND GET IT ON

For a brief moment I was so obsessed with "Marvin Gaye" that even Charlie Puth became my avatar. Like I said, it takes a lot of love to dethrone Cody Christian as my prime avatar. Of course, I'd love to see him appear somewhere in my post vicinity, like my signature. :P Anyway, I found it because it had been surfacing on the Internet for a while (right around when "Lips Are Movin'" was peaking), and this guy popped up and I thought it was going to be some kind of R&B song with a funky rap. Turns out this kid is a BEAST. Listened to a few of his covers and all of them were pretty amazing, and "See You Again" was my jam, so I figured that May was going to be the time I got into the song. I could not stop listening to it from then - it was just so addictive. I find this to be another majorly underrated track among the Buzzjack masses - seriously, why does everyone seem to hate this song? It encompasses a lot of Marvin Gaye songs, and anyone who hates it probably doesn't appreciate the original Marvin Gaye.

One_Direction_-_Drag_Me_Down_(Official_Single_Cover).png

35.) One Direction - "Drag Me Down"
Chart Points: 14094
Lead single, Made In The A.M.
Chart Run: 1-2-3-3-5-6-9-13-15-18-22-26-33-41 (14 weeks)

The best thing about hearing this new side of One Direction is that this was a direction that they have attempted to go toward, only to come close and fail, but with this song, they have finally achieved that perfect era-transcending single. This sounds a bit like The Police meets Fleetwood Mac. The best parts of the song is hearing Harry belt those notes and hearing the mix of Liam and Harry in the chorus. IT'S ABOUT TIME LIAM USES HIS BARITONE RANGE TO HIS ADVANTAGE. Aside from that, Niall sounded pretty cool and Louis sounded too loud, but all in all, I feel like they always seem to knock it out of the park every other lead single, so it was nice to see them reach #1 again.

Mark_Ronson_-_Uptown_Funk_(feat._Bruno_Mars)_(Official_Single_Cover).png

34.) Mark Ronson f/Bruno Mars - "Uptown Funk"
Chart Points: 14251
Lead single, Uptown Special
Chart Run: 45-32-9-1-1-2-1-1-2-4-6-10-14-14-18-19-22-30-36-44 (20 weeks (15 in 2015))

I totally believed that this would be a lot higher on the chart, but having half of its weeks at #1 counted towards 2014 really hurt its position a bit. This proved to be a monster hit in the beginning of the year, and it stayed on top worldwide for the rest of the year. Now, I'm not surprised that Bruno Mars would gain a bunch of success a lot of the time with his singles, but none have reached the same magnitude as this single, despite it being a mere feature. This song possesses so much attitude that it could serve as the theme song for the school player. Never did I think Mark Ronson would get an international hit (well considering "Valerie" was the closest he could get), but this song proved me wrong.

Don't believe me? Just watch!

Five more hours till the night is ours and I'm in bed with you...

33.) Deorro f/Chris Brown - "Five More Hours"
Chart Points: 14388
Non-album single
Chart Run: 29-7-6-5-6-3-1-5-11-15-19-25-30-33-37-41-41-44 (18 weeks)

The original and the first vocal version were the ones I was previously into before this surfaced in one of my local radio stations. I heard this while driving to the gym at one point and it was the most glorious thing I had ever heard, but unfortunately it wasn't available at the time. Luckily, it became available during the beginning of March and, along with Conor and Carly, became one of three songs to debut during their debut week the next chart. Deorro does an amazing job with his Melbourne Bounce styled house tracks, and layering Chris Brown with them was just the icing on the cake. This is another song that gets way too much hate than it deserves.
I agree with you there Cody. FMH gets more hate than it deserves. A summer tune indeed.

Ariana_Grande_One_Last_Time_Cover.png

32.) Ariana Grande - "One Last Time"
Chart Points: 14542
5th single, My Everything
Chart Run: 29-10-8-4-4-4-4-5-7-10-15-21-27-35-47 (14 weeks)

The last Ariana Grande single to go this year didn't even reach the top 30 here, nor did it capture the top spot like its predecessors. Ariana Grande proves hat she can get a hit without the use of a feature with the release of this single, and what an amazing choice it was. For me, the video also signified the end of the era, as it looked like she was going to move on to another hit-producing album (which apparently didn't happen the way it should have with "Focus"). It's an amazing combination between a heartfelt ballad and lush, radio-friendly production, and her voice sounds absolutely beautiful with it.

Drag Me Down    So much love! Perfect song to show that they don't need Zayn to make incredible pop songs, and it's one of their very best for me (I'd rank it 2nd behind WMYB actually).

I just listened to a bit of that Audien song out of interest, generic yes but it's not bad! Lady Antebellum sound good on a dance track :o

If I were to rank their lead singles (they're all amazing btw):

1.) WMYB

2.) Best Song Ever

3.) Drag Me Down

4.) LWWY

5.) Steal My Girl

"Something Better" is more Hillary than Charlie but they both meshed well.

I knew just what I would do when I heard your song...

31.) Felix Jaehn f/Jasmine Thompson - "Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)"
Chart Points: 14861
Lead single, Felix Jaehn EP
Chart Run: 47-30-13-8-6-4-5-5-6-6-9-13-18-25-33-41 (16 weeks)

So long story short, I was amazed at how "Cheerleader" became this giant worldwide smash that I became hungry for more Felix Jaehn, so I gave this a listen after I got back from my cruise (I was still in Barcelona then), and it was an amazing complement to the experience of touring around the city. Then it got stuck in my head so much that it got integrated into my playlist, and it eventually became one of my pivotal songs of the summer. If there was a way for me to get into tropical house other than the return of Robin Schulz, it was this guy. Jasmine Thompson, who also worked with Robin, lent her vocals to this track, and this song had never sounded so beautiful in my life. I was kinda hoping Chaka Khan would dance to this remake during Dancing With The Stars... but she was eliminated first.

I'd swap Best Song Ever and Drag Me Down in my rank but otherwise spot on! That's my top 2 1D songs with Night Changes rounding out the top 3. So much goodness

*THE TOP 50 ALBUMS OF 2015*

20.) Disclosure - Caracal
Cody Recommends: "Magnets" | "Hourglass" | "Holding On"

19.) New Politics - Vikings
Cody Recommends: "Loyalties Amongst Thieves" | "West End Kids" | "50 Feet Tall"

18.) Charli XCX - Sucker
Cody Recommends: "Sucker" | "Red Balloon" | "Break The Riles"

17.) Giorgio Moroder - Deja Vu
Cody Recommends: "Diamonds" | "Tempted" | "I Do This For You"

16.) Demi Lovato - Confident
Cody Recommends: "Confident" | "Waiting For You" | "Kingdom Come"

Disclosure kicks off the top 20 albums with what I can probably say should have been the single order. LION BABE and Lorde are amazing in this album, y'all should check their songs out. New Politics are the other Cor Lupus act to release an album in this chart - now, Vikings is by far a standout album and while not as cohesive as their previous effort, the tracks are pretty solid. Charli XCX brings out the side of me that loves for shameless and trashy pop, we pay tribute to legend Giorgio Moroder (who isn't dead btw) and his latest album, which has a bunch of bangers. Demi Lovato's latest wraps up the group of five.

Night Changes? I feel that in terms of singles it's a bit MOR but still decent.
