Us5 is a creation of german music television VIVA. It's a 5 or 4 piece (can't remember exactly) boyband, and with their first single, Maria they were charttopper in Germany.

BTW just some of the boys are German, there is also one who's british and 1 american... i think.

No US5 are entirely American and founded by the manager of N Sync and Backstreet Boys (Lou Pearlman I think)

Maria was a No.1 hit in Germany but they are not German...

As for these charts, they couldn't be much more wrong...Its an odd week with Us5, Jesse McCartney and Troy & Gabriella it seems like cheesy American pop is making waves again...

Now I checked it. Three members were born in Germany (interesting fact, though their names sound like they are american or british...) and 2 in the US

"Members of the band come from the US, the UK and Germany.

* Christoph "Chris" Watrin born on 7 August 1988 in Cologne, Germany.

* Izzy Galegos born on 19 September 1983 in Stockton, California, US.

* Jay Khan born on 31 March 1982 in London, UK but grew up in Berlin, Germany.

* Michael Johnson born on 18 July 1987 in Mainz, Germany.

* Christopher Richard "Richie" Stringini born on 28 November 1988 in Wheaton, Illinois, US."

(Thanks to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US5)

BTW it was also correct that it was created in the German TV, VIVA (though Lou Perlman was the manager, that's true)

"The band was assembled on the German reality TV programme 'Big in America'." (Wikipedia)

They were hugely successful in Germany, but I don't think they can repeat this in the UK.

And I don't know if they ever released anything in the US which is an interesting thing, as they are american.

Really :-0 That's interesting to know

I thought they were just big in Germany-I can now see that they probably used the fact that they were 3/5ths German to appeal to that market...

The song is c**p though and sounds like O-Town-will be lucky to scrape the top 40...

The young kids seem to be going mad on High School Musical. It all depends if they can talk their parents into buying it.
US5 sound really dated a rip off of Nsync they have a reality tv show on a music channel, there could be a lot of young buyers this week supporting lil chris also from a tv show and high school musical
High School Musical reminds me of Fame the TV series. This week seems to be all American Pop, hence O-Town, New Kids On The Block type thing

obviously half of me is shocked that nobody here knows who they are (but then again the pop area seems to have become the old farts revival area of late ) and half of me thinks "well nobody gonna be interested in that boyband thing again (unless its a getbacktogether)'

Us5 might be on tmf today with their show, then again it might be the new adventures of Ashley parker angel as he goes

That is exactly what I think.

I will be very surprised if "Breaking Free" fails to go Top5 on Sunday.

Nope, woolies never sold it. I think they have a kind of arrogance when it comes to stocking singles later on. Its like they dont wanna admit they were wrong not to sell it in the first place. I remember there was one single they starting to sell earlier this year after it charted highly without them. Can't remember for the life of me what it was.

In their defense, it was not a big seller on CD. It sold very well on downloads.

One of the weeks it was top ten on the combined chart, it fell from 25 to 28 on the physical chart.

Songs that Woolworths did not stock initially but stocked later (chart runs in brackets):

Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing (12-14-8-7-4-)

DJ Jurgen pts Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone (4-3-2-2-2-)

Baha Men - Who Let The Dogs Out (13-14-2-)

Will Smith - Switch (6-8-5-5-4-)

Others that may fall into this category:

Good Charlotte - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous (may explain its 13-20-8- chart run)

Brian Kennedy & Peter Corry - George Best - A Tribute (which went 21-11-4-, and I know that Woolies did not stock it initially, but I don't know if they did stock it in week 3)

I think the George Best one might have been the one I was thinking of!

I know woolies sold it after a few weeks!

They did have Alice at No.1 on one of the weeks...I think it was when they were stopped by Geri Halliwell-Mi Chico Latino...Better off alone really should have been a No.1 hit...it outsold all 3 of the songs that were No.1 when it was No.2...
