January 9, 20169 yr There's something about "I N E S C A P A B L E" that makes it sound a bit like "Uncover".
January 9, 20169 yr Wings, Eyes Shut and Sorry  So much love for those songs, all still to come in my countdown!
January 10, 20169 yr Author There's something about "I N E S C A P A B L E" that makes it sound a bit like "Uncover". Oh it does actually, didn't really think of it but it's one of those things I hear now you mention it!
January 10, 20169 yr Author 51 G.R.L. – Lighthouse 52 Demi Lovato – Confident 53 Janet Jackson ft. Missy Elliot – BURNITUP 54 Selena Gomez – Me & The Rhythm 55 Nyssa Collins – A Thousand Miles (X Factor Performance) 56 Alessia Cara – Here 57 Snakehips ft. Tinashe – All My Friends 58 Nadav Guedj – Golden Boy 59 Carrie Underwood – Dirty Laundry 60 Louisa Johnson – The Power Of Love (X Factor Performance) Kicking off this section is the first of two X Factor performance #1s, but this one is from the UK. We all know Louisa Johnson won and flopped with her lead, but this incredible cover of a Frankie Goes To Hollywood classic blasts even Gabrielle Aplin's out of the water. With so much power, interpretation and control, as if she wasn't a certain winner already Louisa pretty much sealed it with this note perfect performance. Carrie's highest entry on this countdown is an album track, did she pick the best singles ? :kink: Dirty Laundry is an epic country track with a huge chorus and ambitious production values, about a cheating husband. Pretty standard Carrie lyrically but musically this feels arguably closer to a pop hit that anything she's done, along with Blown Away. Golden Boy is one of the highest few Eurovision tracks this year! I didn't rate this much at first shamefully, but it just crept on me and became undeniable. Best described as Ed's Sheeran's Sing with an Arabic twist, this track is a perfect example of a country in Eurovision bringing its own music to the world stage and making it accessible. One of the first hits of 2016 that's sure to be hanging around for a bit is Snakehips' All My Friends. Buzzjack fave Tinashe can finally get her first top 40 with this perfectly commercial chilled R&B track with a huge anthemic chorus. I'm waiting not so patiently for this to soundtrack the end of a night in a club!!! Along the same lines as the above is BJSC Rejects winner Here by Alessia Cara. She recently claimed runner-up on BBC Sound Of 2016 so hopefully we hear a lot of her perfectly smooth voice this year. Here is an introvert anthem, anyone who's been an awkward teen at a rubbish party can definitely relate to these lyrics! The second of two X Factor performances in this section, and the highest overall, comes from Kiwi runner-up Nyssa Collins. Her stunning version of Vanessa Carlton's hit wowed the judges and became her turning point in the compeition, the week when I saw her as a real contender. Not a note out of place, and the high part in the final verse gives me chills every time <3 Selena is no stranger to this countdown; Me & My Rhythm is just more slayage *.* One of her personal favourites on the album, this track mixes disco-y throwbacks with flecks of deep house that belong on the radio right now and incredible melodies to craft an absolute bona-fide banger. It's yet another perfect example of her newer, mature sound. Janet Jackson hasn't been seen here for a while, but here's her comeback burning up the top 60 (pun intended, wholly)! This is classic Janet in all her funky, sexy, electro glory, exactly what the fans needed after the chilled R&B jam No Sleeeep. Missy Elliot's aggressive rap just adds to the track perfectly making a song that is easily up to Janet's usual high standard. Demi's album might have flopped, but she still has two songs to come *.* But before that, the sassy, assertive second single Confident is at #52. The brazen brass and imposing drums embody Demi's newfound power and confidence; a perfect example of the new Demi and the better place she has found herself in! Finshing this section is a heartbreaking flop for the G.R.L. girls, who sadly dealt with the death of member Simone Battle which inspired this song. While it did tire on me due to my own overplay, this gorgeous song always hits me when I don't expect it and you just can't help but get that ubiqitious lump in your throat as you're reminded of the power that drives the girls' conviction and devotion to the lyrics of the song.
January 10, 20169 yr Warm Blood!! <3333 Also great to see Eyes Shut, BURNITUP! and Sorry appearing

January 13, 20169 yr Author 41 Loreen – Paper Light (Higher) 42 Dua Lipa – Be The One 43 Jolin Tsai ft. Namie Amuro – I’m Not Yours 44 Fifth Harmony ft. Kid Ink – Worth It 45 Rachel Platten – Fight Song 46 Jessica Mauboy – This Ain’t Love 47 Macklemore ft. Ryan Lewis – Downtown 48 Tove Stryke – Ego 49 Justin Bieber – Love Yourself 50 Samantha Urbani – 1 2 3 4 Kicking off the final batch before the top 40 is a BJSC hit from Samantha Urbani. 1 2 3 4 is so fabulously 80s, with flawless production and an authentic melody. It really could have been lifted from a Cyndi Lauper or Madonna album from 1987, any pop fan will love this (or they should...)! The perennial huge hit of the last few months, along with his own Sorry, was Justin Bieber's Love Yourself - it's inescapable! The Ed Sheean penned acoustic ballad was an instant fan favourite and really reasonated with the public too. I am a bit tired of its domination by now tbf but it's easily one of his best songs. Tove Stryke released two of the very best Scandipop tracks of the 21st century (Call My Name and White Light Moment), and Ego is just another triumph. An incredibly infectious and anthemic pop song, Ego is arguably the most commercial track Tove has released yet. Downtown flopping (relatively) was a real pop shock for me, I had it down as being a massive inescapable #1, but at least it hung around for a bit I guess. The song is a bit mad but a total bop, all the chaos gels so well together. And Macklemore looks gorgeous af in the video *heart eyes emoji*. One of my faves Jessica Mauboy had a pretty quiet first half of 2015, but kicked off her fourth album campaign with a drum & bass anthem in the form of This Ain't Love. It's basically Changing by Sigma & Paloma Faith but this new sound really works for Jessica's powerful voice, I hope to hear a bit more of it from her actually. Fight Song is one of the surprise successes of the year - a midtempo sing-along pop song that sounds straight out of 2006 being big in 2015? :o Rachel pulled it off though, it's such a huge powerful song that never fails to have me singing along and feeling all empowered, I love when pure pop like this does so well amongst overproduced dance, for example, in the charts. Worth It was also a big hit in 2015 - it was great to see the 5H girls cross over to the UK! The formula is nothing new, but this brass laden pop-R&B track has bags of attitude, a catchy chorus and a great rap, all tied together to create a girl power anthem oozing confidence and sass. One of the few foreign language tracks in this countdown comes from the queen of Mandopop Jolin Tsai! I'm Not Yours, a collaboration with her Japanese peer Namie Amuro, is a defiant girl power anthem with an uplifting yet slick EDM influenced instrumental that shows the best of both girls. Dua Lipa is an exciting prospect as we move into 2015, and her debut Be The One is an amazing introduction. The song is a striking breath of fresh air which fits so well into the current market with its breezy and effortless chorus and themes of self belief. She simply must be huge in 2016 <3 The final track to fall before the all-important top 40 comes from former Eurovision winner Loreen. Paper Light is a hugely uplifting song with a flawless mix of Loreen's pop style with rave piano riffs and a huge house style chorus. The falsetto on this track is so striking in particular.
January 14, 20169 yr Author 40 Taylor Swift - Bad Blood UK peak: #4 US peak: #1 My peak: #8 Kicking off the top 40 is the song that spawned one of the biggest pop music videos of the year! Bad Blood's accompanying video was a big budget, big name affair with the likes of Zendaya, Hayley Williams, Gigi Hadid and Ellie Goudling featuring, and the song itself is a sparse pop track with striking beats. Not the most hard hitting song on 1989 nor the best song she's ever done by any stretch, but it was a real grower for me throughout its single campaign (although I still can't get behind the Kendrick remix, original all the way). 39 Selena Gomez - Sober UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A My peak: #1 One of just a handful of album tracks in the top 40, Sober was a #1 in my chart upon Revival's release. Written by rising star Chloe Angelides, Sober recalls Boom Clap by Charli XCX, with a heartbreaking undertone that's furthered by the vulnerabilty that's naturally present in Selena's voice. This has to be a single really, but then so does a lot of songs on the album of the year! 38 Little Big Town - Girl Crush UK peak: N/A US peak: #18 My peak: #9 The 2nd biggest country song of 2015 in the US (beaten only by Sam Hunt's Take Your Time) and also the 2nd highest one here! This gorgeous blue-eyed-soul influenced track was a huge crossover hit, becoming a rare pop top 20 for a country song, causing controversy in the process with its "lesbian" themes (because apparently people jduge on the title and don't bother with lyrics). This is by far the best song they've ever done, really relatable too with the familiar theme of wanting someone you can't have </3 37 Demi Lovato - For You UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A My peak: #4 For You is another album track, but there are whispers of it being the next single. A massive synth-pop mid-tempo with a chorus bigger than even Demi's vocals, For You is an absolute monster of a pop song that any big popstar would kill for. Demi is always at her best vocally but this, along with Stone Cold, really stand out on the album for those reasons. 36 Marina & The Diamonds - I'm A Ruin UK peak: #164 US peak: N/A My peak: #1 A hugely underrated single from Marina & The Diamonds rounds off this section. Moody synthpop is among Marina's strengths, and the guilt ridden lyrics just embody her as well. All of that combines to give us a real Marina classic that really deserved more, much like the album it came from.
January 15, 20169 yr Sober and I'm A Ruin  I am so glad you appreciate Sober as much as I do. It HAS to be the next single, surely!
January 16, 20169 yr Author 35 Polina Gagarina - A Million Voices UK peak: #97 US peak: N/A My peak: #4 The Eurovision 2015 runner-up is the second highest entry, and third highest Eurovision related song (one Melfest entry is come too). This uplfiting inspirational ballad might have been a bit hypocritical coming from Russia, but it was a wonderful message and Polina was such a lovely woman too fighting for a great cause. It's a shame she didn't win althought ultimately for the best - we couldn't have the gayest thing on earth hosted by Russia... 34 Ciara - I Bet UK peak: #56 US peak: #43 My peak: #1 This ridiculously underrated R&B jam from Ciara was a 2 week #1 for her in my chart, but sadly failed to go top 40 in either the UK or the US. In the former market though, it peaking top 30 on iTunes was about the best Ciara could hope for in 2015. Still, this is a perfect example of Ciara at her best and it pains me to see her go overlooked. 33 Pia Mia ft. Chris Brown & Tyga - Do It Again UK peak: #8 US peak: #71 My peak: #5 Pia Mia came from never to score a sizeable hit, proving a catchy radio friendly song is sometimes all you need! With help from Chris Brown and her bff Kylie Jenner's ex Tyga, Pia's summery anthem has been a mainstay on radio, the charts and in the clubs since release and it's such an earworm to boot, so infectious <3 32 Kelly Clarkson - Piece By Piece UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A My peak: #5 Considerably higher than the two preceding singles is the 3rd single and title track from Kelly's latest album. The lack of chart presence for this is heartbreaking as it's easily the album's pinnacle <3 Contrary to lots of the uplifting and empowering tracks on the album, this track is deeply personal, touching on Kelly's broken relationship with her father, but also relatable for anybody with any similar issues. 31 ISA - Don't Stop UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A (#14 in Sweden) My peak: #1 Easily the highest Melodifestivalen track of the year and not far off being the highest Eurovision related track of the year, ISA's surprise Melfest hit was a #1 for me early last year. It's no surprise I loved it given it's very similar to Shake It Off, but it was a surprise the Swedish audience loved it so much - what seemed like a 7th place in the semi at best kind of entry turned into a 7th placed final finish largely due to ISA's energetic performance. She's back for 2016 with a vengeance and hype - can she outdo Don't Stop?
January 16, 20169 yr Author 30 Years & Years - King UK peak: #1 US peak: N/A My peak: #4 Kicking off the top 30 is the third and final from 2015's Sound Of winners, Years & Years. This euphoric house influenced pop track was everywhere at the start of the year and it's easy to see why. As the track soars higher and higher towards the end, it's impossible for Olly's vocals not to fill you with joy and euphoria. 29 Tinashe - All Hands On Deck UK peak: #156 US peak: #101 My peak: #3 Buzzjack is definitely not a place where you could call Tinashe underrated, but in the charts she certainly is. This flawless R&B track is as fabulous as the genre gets, which is expected as Tinashe is its brightest star for years! If ever a pure R&B track was commercial, it's this, it's a shame it only had very minimal success :( 28 Edurne - Amanecer UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A (#3 in Spain) My peak: #1 The highest Eurovision track this year comes from Spain, who also have one of the few foreign language tracks in the top 100. Edurne's huge vocals lift this mid-tempo ballad to dizzying heights, and there's a striking sense of drama to it as a result. It translated so well to the live stage so it was really sad to see it flop in the contest. 27 Tove Lo - Talking Body UK peak: #17 US peak: #12 My peak: #1 Following up her massive US hit Habits, Tove Lo hit radio yet again and scored a UK hit as well. This sexually charged electro-pop song was tailor made for radio; Shellback's production was always going to make for perfect pop. The chorus will refuse to leave your head, and the melodies of the song just back that up. 26 Tori Kelly - Should've Been Us UK peak: #198 US peak: #51 My peak: #4 As I've already said a few times (but yes, I'll say it again), Tori is possibly the most underrated new voice in pop. Her vocals are insane, almost peerless, and her music is such a refreshing listen too so it's sad to see her not smash. Should've Been Us is a wonderful throwback to 90s R&B via commercial modern pop, with flecks of Lauryn Hill at her best. Tori's talent just effortlessly shines through songs like this!
January 16, 20169 yr Talking Body was a bit of a surprise hit for me, I didn't expect to love it so much! It's an extremely well executed pop song, as is King. I agree totally with you about Tori Kelly, she's SO underrated :( She needs to break through this year!
January 18, 20169 yr Author 25 Selena Gomez - Same Old Love UK peak: #81 US peak: #6 My peak: #5 One of the most underrated singles of the year in my opinion comes from Selena with her second of 4 entries in the top 40. Same Old Love was her 2nd consecutive radio #1 smash in the US, with a sassy chorus featuring the vocals of Charli XCX. The snappy instrumental perfectly compliments the assertive sass of the lyrics, all in all it's just such an earworm of a song that really niggled at me, growing until I adored it fully. 24 Cam - Burning House UK peak: N/A US peak: #29 My peak: #4 The highest country song of the year comes from Cam's Burning House, which was a real slow burning hit in the US, eventually peaking at #27 after a performance on The Voice. This stunningly raw country ballad strikes a real chord with me, the emotion she puts in is peerless and always brings me threatingly close to a tear when I hear it. 23 Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me UK peak: #58 US peak: N/A My peak: #3 This might be the most overrated single of the year on Buzzjack to some, but in terms of the real world it's undoubtedly underrated. Peaking at a paltry #58 in the UK (but top 40 on itunes, damn streaming!!11), this soaring, uplifting track has euphoria in every bagpipe note and every word. This could and should have been huge everywhere. 22 Marina & The Diamonds - Blue UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A My peak: #9 Yet another underrated track in chart terms, although Marina isn't a singles artist tbf. Blue is again uplifting and euphoric, that chorus fills me with undeniable joy every time! Seeing Marina sing this live was a real highlight of the year for me, it's just one of those songs that can make you happy every time <3 21 Melanie Martinez - Soap UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A My peak: #2 Soap is another sad non-charter </3 A very unique song, this dark downtempo song features an incredibly addictive bubble breakdown similar to a SOPHIE track, but the familiar territory of angsty, self loathing lyrics make this as relatable as any Melanie song, which is the beauty of her really <3
January 18, 20169 yr Author 20 Taylor Swift - Style UK peak: #21 US peak: #6 My peak: #6 Kicking off the top 20 is probably the biggest popstar in the world right now, with a dark and brooding synth pop track which was the 3rd 1989 single. Whilst it wasn't as successful as its predecessors, it rightfully has its fans and arguably has influenced the wave of dark new wave-y songs that we saw in 2015. HA IMPAKT!!!1!11 19 Little Mix - Love Me Like You UK peak: #11 US peak: N/A My peak: #2 Little Mix slaying 2015 with 3 entries in this top 20 *.* This doo-wop 60s throwback was the 2nd Get Weird single, and hung around the top 20 for ages, eventually selling as much as their biggest top 5 hits! This is so radio friendly with a wide appeal, one of those songs that really worms its way in, charms you and will not leave your head <3 18 Selena Gomez - Hands To Myself UK peak: #136 US peak: #39 My peak: #1 Also with multiple entries in the top 20 (only 2 though) is Selena Gomez with her "asthmatic lamb" anthem. Hands To Myself was always going to be an absolute pop banger, being produced by Max Martin, but its intricacy is brilliant. The sexy, coy vocals make the track playful, but the lyrics hint at a darker undertone - mental illness, drugs and destructive, damaging relationships. 17 Grace ft. G-Eazy - You Don't Own Me UK peak: #4 US peak: N/A My peak: #2 The first Unovia BJSC track to be a real hit *.* Although cheating as it was already an Aussie top 20 when I sent it  This Lesley Gore sample brought a classic into the 21st century and the song ended up a UK hit with advert usage. Grace's soulful voice stays true to the original while G-Eazy's rap gives it a 2015 twist, something for everybody! 16 Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A My peak: #3 Carly Rae's highest track finally bows out, the instant grat and title track from Emotion! The hooks and melodies running through this whole song are wonderful, and it's a perfect example of the simple but strikingly effective lyrics that keep this album buoyant - it's all so relatable. This track is just so bouncy and enjoyable and has a slight edge over the rest of the album.
January 19, 20169 yr Author Grace, Carly, Little Mix and Taylor are all amazing  Selegend shade
