The power of streaming manages to keep Gnash at #1 for a second week, doing what feels impossible and blocking a P!nk song from #1. With her maintaining a healthy lead on iTunes and increasing on Spotify, it's likely P!nk will hit #1 next week. Astoundingly awesome news is that Dua Lipa has hit the top 10 this week, and could climb again as she's up to #2 on iTunes. Largely thanks to his massive streams, Drake scores his 5th top 10 hit this week with "One Dance", which is not the only good news for him, as Australia's severely late embracing of "Jumpman" turns it into a top 50 hit this week. This time last year he had 3 top 50 hits, now he has 9. DNCE are also a late bloomer as they seemingly fluke a top 50 entry after many weeks just outside. With this week's album chart, we finally hit something I've been anticipating for weeks. Since 2010, the lowest figure for a #1 album has been 3,600. This week Disturbed return to #1 after debuting there last year, but do so without even selling 2,200 copies, smashing the old record. Such is the state of sales, that a retail discount on Ed Sheeran's "x" has it all the way back up to #4. Similarly, RUFUS rocket back up to #5 largely thanks to being the discounted album of the week on iTunes. The top debut this week is from PJ Harvey, who if she had managed a similar figure to her last album, may have challenged for #1, but instead lands at #7, one behind "Let England Shake" which is her highest charting album to date. Roughly 8 years ago, Australian soprano Mirusia was at #1 on the album chart in collaboration with Andre Rieu. Possibly in some sort of marketing gimmick, both artists debut new albums in the top 50 this week. If you've been keeping up with the news this weekend, you'll know that we probably need not worry about another low selling #1 album next week. At the time of writing, Prince maintains the top 4 albums on iTunes, which is quite unlikely for Australia's future Eurovision entrant Dami Im who was probably going to be #1 under normal circumstances.

Mind you it was again a very close race due to P!nk's streaming struggling to keep up. She's lucky to get her 8th #1 though, as the sudden arrival of strong competition has probably left her without another chance. That competition comes in the form of both Drake, who is now outselling her in addition to his Spotify dominance, but of course the new Calvin Harris/Rihanna tune which has gone straight to #1 on iTunes. Because of timezones really, "This Is What You Came For" only appeared in the top 60 on Spotify for Friday so it's difficult to tell how it's going until later today. It'll probably need to get up to at least #2 to stand a chance as "One Dance" broke the daily record yesterday. Now though for the big news of last week, if there's an Australian kobbar, he'd probably be pleased that the news of Prince's death came around at the near optimum time of about 3am on Friday, so unlike the UK/US where the earliest sales wound up on last week's chart, here we see the fullest effect. In total he gets 8 top 50 re-entries and another 3 in the lower half. Most of note amongst this is of course "Purple Rain", which vanquishes its previous peak of only #41! Such dominance is enough to help push big hits like "The Hills", "See You Again", "Photograph", "Hotline Bling" and "Downtown" out of the top 100 for the first ever time. Of course the other big news of the week was the release of Beyonce's 6th album "Lemonade". With just a few days of sales, it's the first time she's ever debuted at #1, as her previous album (which was her first EVER #1) had to wait for the physical release to climb to the top. The whole process of this makes for quickly changing expectations. Before the week started, it looked safe to think that Dami Im had the #1 locked up, but then it became clear that Prince would likely get it, and now neither happened. Naturally it's probably to Prince's detriment that he had 3 separate greatest hits sets splitting sales, so he gets 4 of the top 6 but no #1. Back on Beyonce though, it's worth noting that she impressively picks up 6 singles debuts, despite the fact that TIDAL streaming does not count to the ARIA Chart, and we can't use the wonky price allocation to justify as the individual tracks were about $4 more than the whole album here. Next week I want to pre-emptively say that Drake has a shot at his first ever #1 album, but based on this week, I don't think anything is a guarantee.
May 1, 20169 yr What is up with Australia's continued obsession with P!nk? Only Australia would get an otherwise underperforming P!nk single and send it to #1 on their chart. just realised this is my 30,000th post too *.*.*.*
May 1, 20169 yr Author where i can see the sales? ARIA are generally very secretive about sales getting out beyond their control so I tend to avoid mentioning most figures when they do. Is there anything in particular you're interested in because I can probably provide a decent estimate.

May 3, 20169 yr Why has 5 Seconds of Summer - Amnesia re-entered at #2?? (iTunes) The latest series of The Voice began this week. I presume it's the same reason why Who You Are, Creep, Why, Only Love, etc are in the top 100 as well.

As far as I know, in the past nearly 30 years, no artist has achieved their first #1 single & #1 album on the same week. Drake has done just this as both "One Dance" & "Views" are on top this week. Unlike in the US & UK, Drake has never had a #1 single as a featured artist either, his closest shot at #1 prior was "Hotline Bling" peaking at #2. He gets there thanks to record breaking streams, stopping the actual #1 seller from Calvin Harris getting there. As it stands, this is Calvin Harris's 3rd #2 single, after "Sweet Nothing" and funnily enough, "We Found Love". Because of this, "One Dance" could potentially stick as the first #1 single to never get to #1 on sales. There's not much else of excitement at the top of the singles chart. Most of Beyonce's stuff climbs, and Adele gets a mighty boost for everything thanks to a televised live performance. As mentioned upthread, The Voice has returned to TV, and the biggest beneficiary has been for 5SOS's "Amnesia", which was conveniently written by the dudes from Good Charlotte who are judges on the show. I suspect Radiohead's "Creep" would have debuted if it were allowed, but regardless, new release "Burn The Witch" does chart, which is Radiohead's first singles chart entry since 2003. Blink-182 also extend their top 50 chart span to 20 calendar years as "Bored To Death" is their first entry since "Up All Night" in 2011. Oh, and thanks to the Running Man Challenge, Ghost Town DJ's chart for the first time with "My Boo" at #42 this week. I didn't know it at the time, but Beyonce's #1 album last week was a narrowly won battle, and likely due to lack of sufficient stock of Prince albums in stores. It would seem that's still the case as all of Prince's albums take a bit of a tumble. Anyway, it was again a very close battle to #1 which Drake won, selling about twice as much as his last studio album did on debut. There's a Mother's Day flair to the top of the chart, apart from Rob Zombie & Sixx:A.M. both getting their first top 10 albums. Local band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have released a crazy 8 albums since 2012, and now are in the top 50 for the first time, at #19 even. Next week, because he's the only country artist Australia will get behind, Keith Urban looks likely to get his 3rd #1 album, though Beyonce could provide a challenge as she now has physical sales and is currently #1 on iTunes. I'd also say Radiohead has a chance (assuming they release on iTunes) but they have a knack for hitting #2 here. Edited May 8, 20169 yr by Dircadirca

Calvin Harris still has the iTunes lead so unless Drake drops his video soon, he might be able to snatch it next week. Behind them we have two big debuts. For Justin Timberlake this is his first top 5 single this decade, whereas Delta Goodrem of course had a #1 single less than a year ago. The losers out of this are Galantis, who apparently missed the top 10 by 1 sale :o Conrad Sewell gets back into the top 50 thanks to the Logies, and The Temper Trap narrowly have their first top 50 hit in 4 years. Worth mentioning also is that Sigala enters at #100 with his new single; his previous single "Say You Do" unfortunately peaked at #101. Keith Urban has pretty much always been a strong seller here, helped by the advantage of being the only Australian country artist that anyone outside of Australia has heard of. He got a big profile boost though when he was a judge on the first season of The Voice, and had a Greatest Hits set pushed to capitalise on that, which went to #1, his first. It seems that's still doing the trick as he follows his 2013 #1 album "Fuse" with now his 3rd #1 "Ripcord". In the process he contributes to one of the biggest travesties in the Australian charts, as Radiohead have still never had a #1 album here. "OK Computer" was their first big success here which peaked at #7, and since then all 6 of their studio albums released in this century have peaked at #2, with some ridiculous company having blocked them including the opening ceremony soundtrack for the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and Metallica's much beloved "St. Anger". Even outside of the band, Thom Yorke hasn't had much luck as his first solo album peaked at #2, and his Atoms For Peace album peaked at the similarly dreaded position of #11. Elsewhere in the top 10, Australian singer Kate Ceberano has her first top 10 album in nearly a decade with her latest compilation. Skepta has what I think is the 3rd highest charting album ever by a British rapper (behind Plan B & The Streets) with his new one at #13. James Blake has a bit of a step down from his last album peaking at #5, but still manages top 20 with his low key release strategy.
May 15, 20169 yr #3 is an excellent debut for Dear Life! Wings debuted at #8 so this has done better than that did initially. Hopefully it can hold up fairly well now, I expect she'll have a Voice performance again? Having said that, I don't follow The Voice Australia so I have no idea when a performance slot is available :kink:
May 15, 20169 yr Author Based on last year, the live shows are two weeks from now. I'm not sure if Delta will be performing the song too soon though, as I think she already did it at the Logies last week which was on the same channel & timeslot as The Voice. She's having a bit of trouble getting going on Spotify (not even top 200 yet, but might pick up if she gets added to the Hot Hits Australia playlist tomorrow). Should have a better second week than Wings though!

Drake still hasn't topped sales and this week he was as low as #4 on the Digital Tracks chart. It looks like it'll be very close again between him and Calvin. Meanwhile Eurovision happened and Australia's entrant Dami Im smashes back into the chart at #5, which is an improvement on the #12 peak of our entrant last year. Partly thanks to streaming, there are no other Eurovision entries, compared to the 5 or so we had last year. This means that "1944" is the second Eurovision winning song this decade after "Running Scared" not to hit the Australian charts, and in fact the other 4 all reached the top 50. Keith Urban is helped by the viral sensation of his latest single to just hold on at #1, which means Meghan Trainor fails to get a 2nd #1 album. Next week Ariana Grande will try her luck and I feel she might just get it.

This time even Calvin Harris wasn't #1 on sales, instead Justin Timberlake took that, but his sales are lagging so he doesn't look quite as poised for #1 as he is in the UK. Rather it looks like next week will be a battle between P!nk and Calvin Harris. A late addition to the top 10 is DNCE which means that Joe Jonas has gotten a top 10 single before Nick Jonas. Relatively quite week on the whole though, but good for Ariana Grande whose new album hype has her riding up the chart with 5 different tracks. So naturally, Ariana Grande is #1, not with the greatest sales but with no major competition, it's more than enough. Sales in general are slipping a bit again allowing Taylor Swift her highest position since January. It also seems like "x" is finished with its discount promotion, and instead "+" is getting, making it oddly the higher of the two Sheeran albums now. Next week you could probably bet your house on Flume being #1, while Architects, Fifth Harmony & Catfish and the Bottlemen look to have strong top 10 debuts.

Seemingly on its own effort too compared to "How Deep Is Your Love" which was heavily pushed by Sony to snatch a week at #1. It also means that Australia is the weird country where this hit #1 but "We Found Love" did not. Elsewhere, Meghan Trainor bafflingly continues her run of all of her top 50 singles going top 10, while Ariana Grande cracks the top 20 with "Into You" which might finally give her a single with real momentum from this album. Anyway the way things are going, "This Is What You Came For" should be #1 next week. On the album chart, it's no surprise that Flume is #1, he even sold roughly 5 times as much as this week's #2 album. It means that Flume is 2 for 2 with #1 albums too. His first album debuted at #2 because it was released the same week as One Direction's 2nd album (though it did cause a stir when it overtook them on iTunes), only reaching #1 thanks to the promo boost of the Hottest 100 in early 2013. Architects come in at #2 which is their first ever top 10 album. Catfish and the Bottlemen & Fifth Harmony also get their first top 10 albums, the former having never even made the top 50 with their first album. Most importantly, a Best Of for The Wiggles reaches the top 20 *.* Next week Flume may hold #1 though he has stiff competition from Jimmy Barnes.
June 5, 20169 yr the wiggles going top 20 tho *____* Only in Australia. Yay for Flume smashing it in the albums :yahoo:

Calvin climbs back up to #1 on digital sales, but with Drake still way ahead on streaming (presuming Spotify updates any time soon...), he could actually take back the top spot next week. This is all while in a shocking disregard for taste, Meghan Trainor's "Me Too" is bizarrely #1 on iTunes, but so far behind on streaming that it won't be able to get to the top officially at this rate. Anyhow, it's a very slow week on the singles chart with only 2 debuts in the top 50 (pushing out "One Call Away" & "Sorry" to #51 & #52 no less), though one is a particularly interesting case as we see the long awaited return of The Avalanches who put out the plunderphonics classic "Since I Left You" in the year 2000 and only now are releasing their follow up album. They only hit the top 50 singles once with the wonderful "Frontier Psychiatrist" at #49, but they now reach a whopping new height of #34 with "Frankie Sinatra". One might suspect they could be grabbing their first #1 album next month. The album chart this week sees history being made, as famed Cold Chisel frontman Jimmy Barnes picks up his 11th solo #1 album. Not only does he now have the most #1 albums for Australian artists, but he ties with Madonna and U2, behind only The Beatles who have 14 #1 albums. There are a whole heap of debuts this week but the only other one that makes the top 10 is from local country rock band The Wolfe Brothers, which is their first time in the top 10. Next week we'll see if The Temper Trap can score their 2nd #1, or if a stalwart from the current top 5 can block them.
