May 21, 20169 yr LXXIV: I knew of Brielle from "Avalanche", so I decided to check out her channel which had at the time three of her songs (the videos for "Rocket" and "Rock The Catwalk" weren't there at the time). The one song that really captured me was this. LXXV: At first I knew A-Trak from his Duck Sauce outfit and remixes of various tracks (his "Heads Will Roll" remix is GENIUS). It gained some airplay in Canada, and it was a nice venture into melodic future house for him. LXXVI: I had always known New Politics but I wasn't aware they were coming out with a follow-up to "Everywhere I Go (Kings & Queens)" until around the end of May, and by that time I already had my mind set of my BJFest entry. Actually, at first I was going to go through the dance route until I found this and "Talk". Ended up going with this and the rest is history. LXXVII: I listened to "Feel The Volume" by Jauz (which was one of my potentials during April) and I found out he remixed "Sugar" by the band. I ended up looking through the Red Bull Records SoundCloud account and found this gem. This was around the beginning of June so only this song and their earlier stuff were uploaded - their latest album hadn't been released yet. Had I found them a month later, I probably would have ended up sending "Criminal" or "Ratatat". LXXVIII: Thomas Jack - "Rivers" It was a newly released track on iTunes. I had planned to go through a more chill route after going hard the past two months, and a chill track was a nice way to end the summer. It was between this and Kill Paris at one point and Thomas Jack ended up winning it out. LXXIX: Similar to "Push" - it was pushing top 30 on Canadian pop airplay, and I was desperately in need for another giant hit. I heard this song and "Guilty As Sin" by Dan Talevski (my theme for October was "let's find another Canadian and get another top 15"), so I played it a couple times and the Sia-like productions eventually led me in its favor. Also, I am a sucker for young talent. LXXX: I believe "World Record" was a new artist spotlight on iTunes and at first I was a bit wary about sending something so far left field but I eventually caved in with the slap bass solo. LXXXI: TBA This will all be coming soon but I can reveal that SoundCloud was central into finding the act. - Spin-off history: Your Best Of: I knew 4Count last year from a friend from another forum who recommended this after seeing my endless stanning for Midnight Red's "Hell Yeah!". This was my first spin-off and I wasn't going to send Brielle again, so boyband it was. BJFestivalen 2k15: I didn't have a clue what to send for BJFest because of the length limit, so my mind instantly went to video games. Unfortunately, Bemani tends to make songs that are too fast for the Buzzjack public but Dirty Androids was something that could probably appeal. It was one of the worst performing songs. Dance Anthems 2000-2009: I also knew of BT from a prior dabble on another forum last year, where this guy really stanned for BT in a game I hosted. "Superfabulous" was my favorite from him at first, but then I heard this song and it kinda stuck with me. Now that I think of it, "Drifting Away" would have done loads better. WorldVision 2k15: DJ BY.ZAK - "Fucking With My Foolks" Country Represented: Morocco Yeah, Morocco. I was obviously never going to find something that appealed until I searched "Moroccan EDM" on Google, which led me to this guy. It was so early 2000's hip-hop/crunk it hurt but the breakdown at around the 1:50 mark was absolutely LIFE. UK Near Misses: Had it not been for the date limit, I probably would have sent either "Sweater Weather" or "Talking About". But anyway, I love The Pierces. I toyed around with "Kings" for a while but it eventually exited my mind, so I was extremely excited when I found out "You'll Be Mine" missed out on a top 40 position. Halloween: The first song that came into mind for the Halloween spin-off. Another person on another forum charted this and it went to #1 there (which was completely fueled by American Horror Story). Also AHS Hotel was coming out and I wanted to pay homage to a previous season. Christmas II: I became obsessed with Drag Race around the middle of November, and Alaska Thunderfuck was in the middle of my affections. So to see her and Courtney Act do something was just beyond.ooookay so update for 2016: LXXXI: I found this back in December near holiday season while listening through all the YBO nominees, and Elephante kept creeping up on me, so I found his channel, found "Age Of Innocence" (another one of his songs), his remix of "Over And Over Again" (which I was OBSESSED with)... and then came this beaut. The sound at first was kind of middling because I wasn't fully into the future bass route, but that second drop got me. I almost went with another song (a darker, slower one) but ultimately sent this. Yeah... not exactly one of my strongest hours. Maybe I'll send the song I'm talking about to a future contest, I need another "Ghosts"-type song. LXXXII: I had one of those late-night YouTube crawls and I somehow found this through a chain of recommendations. I was kinda influenced by "Dilute This" from the previous contest to send something of this caliber, and the production sounded very Years & Years-esque. Remember this when you vote for it in Rejects. LXXXIII: So I went with Transviolet and got vetoed. #CheapHoeLupus confirmed. So while I was scrambling for something to confirm I remembered spending the night at a friend's because we were going to downtown San Diego, and while I was getting ready, I found two songs that went into my playlist immediately, Nicole Millar's "Tremble" and this. I was never aware that Rain Man was producing more music after his hilariously blown-out split with the Yousaf sisters, and this hit me like a ton of bricks. I honestly did not think this was going to qualify. LXXXIV: Actually, this song was a preliminary potential for last month's contest! I ended up passing on this and wanted to bring it back because I wanted to send another "established" act like New Politics. These guys were the perfect pick. Movies: Yeah, so Charlie's Angels is among my favorite movies of all time, and had it not been for the snippets of the movie that played throughout this remix of the classic 1970's TV theme, it would have been my second full instrumental after "Spinning Around". This ended up doing decently, so I have no regrets about changing to this. BJ 10th Anniversary: One of Toby's endless memes that somehow stuck with me. This was around the time that I was on the verge of abandoning the contest as a whole (due to events that I shall not repeat and I'm not talking about DNQ'ing) and wanted to send something that was a bit... crazy for me. Actually, I have no idea what possessed me to send this. WorldVision 2k16: I was toying around with sending this for July's contest during the middle of May last year, and I completely forgot about this when "West End Kids" was released, so when I ended up getting Romania for my assigned country, I knew it was time.
May 22, 20169 yr Author Update BJSC 81: Allie X - Sanctuary A live version of the song came up as a related video on YouTube. I was going to send that, until I discovered the studio version which I felt would be a better entry. BJSC 82: Poison Ivory - Alchemy I *think* Poison Ivory came up as a similar artist of LOLAWOLF on Spotify. I instantly fell in love with the entire EP and considered three different songs from it to send. BJSC 83: Ecca Vandal - Father Hu$$la Sabrewulf showed me a song by Ecca Vandal, which I liked. I looked up some of her other songs and this one stood out the most to me. BJSC 84: Anna and the Barbies - Álmatlan Found during my search for a Worldvision II entry! I discovered a whole bunch of songs from Hungary that I liked, through Wikipedia, YouTube, Spotify and last.fm. I believe this one came up as a related video on YouTube. Spin-offs Movies: Yoko Kanno & Aoi Teshima - Because I can't remember exactly but I think I may have randomly searched "Japanese soundtracks" during my search for a movies spin-off entry, and this came up in a playlist of those. 10 year anniversary: Majela ZeZe Diamond - Ejaculate Fast In My Naked Wet Piss Flaps (Bisexual) plug.dj meme Worldvision II: Holdviola - Vágta I think it came up in a YouTube playlist of Hungarian songs.
September 9, 20168 yr Author I was thinking about this so thought I'd update again lol. I do enjoy updating these things regular BJSC 85: Tzlil - Oh My Love I stumble upon so many potentials/entries just by clicking on random related videos on Youtube. This was one of those. From what song did I get there? I've no idea ^_^ BJSC 86: Blackbriar - Until Eternity Literally the same deal as above ~ BJSC 87: NOËP - Move I think I first discovered this on Youtube around January-February of this year, thought it was good but completely forgot about it until it came up again during my specific search for an entry by an Estonian artist. Was like yep, I remember this, now imma send it and DNQ BJSC 88: Maya's Moving Castle - When You Wish Upon The Stars I discovered a different song by the band... somehow... can't remember how, it was either that they came up as a similar artist of someone on last.fm OR a related video on Youtube. I was half-assedly considering sending said other song, until I decided to listen to a couple of their other songs on the day confirmations began for 88 and this one seemed like a stronger entry. spin-offs Reinventions: Owsey & Resotone - Broke My Promise & Stared to the Sea I believe it came up on this site when I was specifically looking for reinventions of t.A.T.u. I went through so many reinventions of different artists to find the perfect entry, and when I got to reinventions of t.A.T.u., I found my entry. I think I know my next entry as well! Came up as a similar artist of someone on Last.fm I believe. Some of these discoveries are kinda blending into one big ball of stumbling upon stuff
September 9, 20168 yr BJSC BJSC77 when I was in France my french exchange was obsessed with this song and played it all the time! I only became eligible to enter like a day before confirmations closed so I remember messaging Lindsey in a panic asking her to help me find something which would comply with the veto rules :D I decided to go for this lmao BJSC79 this was the first bjsc song i 'found' so to speak! I had about 4 potentials, 3 of which were German then I found this and it got a pretty good response from plug :') I think I started on a Halsey or Melanie Martinez video then kept searching until I found Marina Kaye's duet with Lindsey Stirling. I loved her voice, so listened to her other songs and found "Dancing with the Devil". BJSC80 Okay, originally for BJSC80 I was going with a song by I Am Harlequin, I had even sent it in and everything. However during the confirmation period I saw she tweeted a shoutout to someone else who was on her record label, and it was Schulkid :kink: I preferred Slow Dancing so changed my entry! BJSC81 ;) I can tell you that I found my artist by looking at her Nyan Cat dance cover, then discovered she had an original song. mess i didnt even go with that artist for bjsc81 Found this from looking through related artists to probably someone like Marina or Charli! I was just on one of those youtube journeys when I was clicking through loads of different Finnish songs and this one just hit me straight away BJSC83- GIRLI - So You Think You Can f*** With Me Do Ya found her through DIY magazine, the headline was sth like new pop queen changing the world. v true found from related artists again! (can not remember who but probably Grimes!) Initially was going to go with but thought the Bohemian Rhapsody sample would get it vetoed, bless :') MY HEART SAYS YES, BUT MY DADDY SAYS NO. actually I didn't find this oops, Cameron did :kink: I was looking for protest dance entries and came across this, and loved it :') Discovered her from PLL obvs, then found out she was sung when I watched like a random video one day of PLL cast members singing  BJSC88- Claudia Kane- Einstein I've had this on my longlist since April  Recently I went through and listened to it in full (I usually add songs on my longlist based on like 10 second snippets and revisit them later) and couldn't believe I had set it aside!! :o
September 9, 20168 yr Author Wow Mattias, I had no idea you entered such frankly AMAZING entries when you first entered. Ladytron, Massive Attack, Alanis and Röyksopp are amazing choices. Ladytron in particular is one of my favourite tracks ever. So so late but thank you btw! Somehow my first ever entry with Ladytron remained my best ever result in the regular contest until my win, several people have also said in another thread that it would probably now win if that contest was redone (I believe if the Reloaded contests are still happening in order, that contest should be coming up pretty soon!). The Massive Attack song is such a well-known one that it was kinda weird sending it haha (same with Alanis, looking back, although that particular song isn't as well known as like Jagged Little Pill lmao, and these things were more flexible back then), it flopped badly too, possibly because people marked it down for being such a well known track.
September 9, 20168 yr a mix of old loved tracks that flopped undeservedly, more recent tracks that flopped inexcusably, album tracks that even got the chance to flop and more and more random youtube word inputting and seeing where I end up, clicking on "you might like this if you like...". That's turned up some real gems, though it does often mean trawling some real dirges too to get to them
September 9, 20168 yr For 2016~ U.S Girls - Woman's Work; Guardian Band of the Day tiasu - Plummet; MrSuicideSheep YT upload How I Became the Bomb - Ulay Oh; A friend posted this on Facebook which intrigued me and I sent it (even if I knew the fact that it was getting posted there meant it was quite well known :kink:) Hiatus - Precious Little; Ambient, same Youtube channel I found We Are All Astronauts/Owsey on, maybe I should revisit there more often  Delhi 2 Dublin - Apples; reddit's 'listen to this' section, rapidly becoming a new favourite discovery method of mine! Illenium - Fortress; MrSuicideSheep again, though it was another song of his (Afterlife which I almost sent) which led me to this. Essaie Pas - Le Porte du Masque est de Rigeur; Guardian Band of the Day (still proving itself to be the recipe for a flop in 2016 (I have one more as well I wanna send that I found from there oops) :() Daydreamer - Travelling Light; MrSuicideSheep again, incidentally both this and Plumment were from their 'experimental week' sections. Edited September 9, 20168 yr by Chez Wombat
September 9, 20168 yr Since June 2016: LXXXV: I opted for Nicole Millar's "Tremble" which ended up getting vetoed, so I went with something that I found while I was at Hawaii (which was my original plan but then Atlas Genius DNQ's and then I remembered "Tremble" existed lol). Apparently whenever I get vetoed, I send a song and it completely exceeds my expectations: I didn't even think this was going to qualify! LXXXVI: I found "Nights" by her but I wasn't going to send that because of the "Nights Like This" sample and that would have easily gotten vetoed. So I opted for something else from her LP which also ended up not doing well at all. Good thing there are some pretty good qualifiers or else I would not have gotten the motivation to follow this contest. LXXXVII: I'm still in shock. I found this in another forum's personal charts section and decided to give it a try because their previous work was pretty good (so it wasn't like "West End Kids" which was a chance encounter). So I decided to place this in my potentials and I frequently visited it and ended up sending this, expecting it to be vetoed. LXXXVIII: Nhato f/Sasi - "Way Of Life" It was something that I found after I listened to Dirty Androids' new album and found the full length versions of his album on a YT channel called SlakedMind (I'm thinking of using this formula soon if I can find something as accessible as this lol). I didn't notice the Touhou connection until I read the description. Reinvention: I heard it in full while driving home from my classes one day on Radio Disney and immediately fell in love with it, and I thought it would immensely flop in BJSC so I decided to send it here. Just wanted to lighten up my potential load (which seems to be the narrative for my spin-off entries lately). LXXXIX: TBA Not gonna mention anything major yet but I did find this through a YouTube trawl.
September 10, 20168 yr Oo, interesting. BJSC 84 // Five Iron Frenzy - Into Your Veins: Interestingly enough I first heard of FIF through the Relient K (current entry plug) 'joke' song "Five Iron Frenzy Is Either Dead Or Dying" from "The Bird And The Bee Sides", as a tribute for them during FIF's huge hiatus (it looked like they'd broken up for good I think, FIF were originally a late 90s band and reformed recently), but that was a couple of years before I found "Into Your Veins" which I just found on Youtube - I clicked on the link because I recognised the band name then fell in love with the song. BJSC 85 // Said The Sky - Nostalgia: Found Said The Sky on soundcloud, they just popped up in my stream (I think someone reposted it idk) with an interesting remix of Owl City's "Fireflies", I really liked it so I looked through a few more STS tracks and it turned out a lot of them were available for free download, Nostalgia just happened to be one of those and I loved the build on it. It's probably one of the more mellow of Said The Sky's discography. BJSC 86 // Bears Den - Above The Clouds Of Pompeii: I used to share music with one of my previous housemates last year and the year before and "Islands" by Bear's Den happened to be one of them. This is just one of the tracks that really stood out to me. BJSC 87 // Imperial Leisure - Man On The Street: A couple of years ago I went to see a concert by Backbeat Soundsystem, another somewhat similar artist (more party reggae ska than hip hop ska though, I was actually torn between entering them and IP for this one) and Imperial Leisure were performing at the same gig, not as a support, more of a joint headliner. They were pretty great so I got the album and picked out Man On The Street because I thought it packed a punch, perhaps I should've tried "Untouchable" but idk if it would've done a lot better. BJSC 88 // Relient K - Cat: I've been following RK for years! I originally heard of them through a few sources- suggestions on Last.fm because I listened to a bit of punk at the time, such as Paramore (who RK have supported before oo), Green Day, Blink 182 and a few others. I also heard of them through Matt Thiessen's songwriting credits, particularly for his work with Adam Young. I got addicted to their Christmas album (that one's a hell of a lot of fun to listen to haha) then got hooked on each of their other albums one at a time, they're legit one of my favourite artists ever. "Cat" is from their newest album "Air For Free", only released late July and it grabbed me on first listen. The cat/dog debate did influence me slightly in my decision but I probably would've entered it anyway, it's legit one of my favourites from their new album. I almost entered it last month but I already had Imperial Leisure and I wanted to be sure about it since it's so new. I was almost put off entering them because I thought it might be a little cheap with the spin off entry and their moderate success in the US album charts plus I've ocassionally stanned them on here already but I figured most people wouldn't know them so that's the main thing.
September 10, 20168 yr The current BJSC - Discovered Doctor Blind's great voice on a remix he did of one of Colm's tracks and decided to use a rerecorded version by Doctor Blind to make a dance tune.
September 11, 20168 yr all from the same tumblr blog. which Chris has now discovered and better not EXPOSEDT
January 8, 20178 yr Main Contests: BJSC 74: Last Lynx - 'Curtains' I was on the hunt to find something and I believe I found this by looking through the 'La Belle Musique' channel on YouTube! I was looking through some of the older uploaded songs on there and thought 'this is the ONE!'. BJSC 75: ONUKA - 'Time' I was obsessed with Findlay's 'Electric Bones' at the time from the previous contest, and I was listening to that on YouTube and this came up as one of the suggested videos to watch alongside it. The thumbnail intrigued me so I clicked on it and BAM I found my favourite entry to date. BJSC 76: M+A - 'When' This was another YouTube find! I believe I found this by once again surfing through channels and looking through all the suggested songs. I found their collab with Dena and then decided to check out some of their other stuff, this one was the most striking. BJSC 77: Muhsinah - 'Luv w Luv' This was the first month that I didn't use a YouTube discovery. My planned entry was Koven but of course Altyr got in there first and I had NOTHING and didn't feel right nabbing Polyna from Leww, even though he said I could if I had nothing on plug.dj, so I had to frantically search for something else. I decided a different way ~ I ended up looking through 'recommended artists' on Spotify and Muhsinah popped up, this one stood out for me so I thought I'd go for it. BJSC 78: AK & LYNX ft. Veela - 'Virtual Paradise' I believe I found this one by searching for Drum & Bass songs on YouTube. After not getting the chance to enter Koven, this was my chance to go D&B. I remember being quite unimpressed but then this began and suddenly I jolted as it grabbed my attention so hard. I was so excited to enter this! BJSC 79: jj - 'All White Everything' I remember I was listening back over all the Perseventyfive songs, and I got to Merely - 'Scandinavia' and this came up as a suggestion for it! Like 'Time' I was also intrigued by the thumbnail and could not get over how beautiful this was. BJSC 80: Stranger Cat - 'Unzip Your Skin' After being in love with 'I Am The Antichrist To You', I subscribed to the channel that it came from in the hope I would find a discovery from it one day as good as that. And it happened so soon! Actually I think it was a different Stranger Cat song that I couldn't quite get into, but I was intrigued by their colourful aesthetic so went searching and found THIS *.* BJSC 81: TBA Spanish Artists - Spanish Jam I am entering something old skool to the next contest that I actually discovered when I was about 5! *.* I would hear it all the time as a youngster in Spain and owned a compilation that it was on. Hype. Spinoffs: Buzzjackfestivalen 2015: Denvish - 'Spook' I discovered this song as a young child! It was on a Graveyard level on an internet game called Territory War (on a site called FetchFido). I always found this song really cool and thought this was a good way to unleash it. Dance Anthems (2000-2009): Lasgo - 'Something' I of course discovered this through being a top 10 00s hit! But to be specific, Now 51. x WORLDVISION: SOLDOUT - 'To The Ocean' I was looking for Belgian stuff on last.fm for ages and wasn't getting anywhere! So then I was more specific and searched for 'Belgian Electro' on SoundCloud and YouTube and eventually stumbled on '94' by the band on YouTube. I thought it was quite interesting so I looked on their channel and suddenly now had the dilemma of loving about four of their songs. It was the music video for this one that edged it in the end! UK Chart Near Misses: The Pipettes - 'Judy' I originally wanted to send 'No Light, No Light' but thought that'd be too cheap so looked for discoveries and this ended up being one thanks to my love for their other song 'Pull Shapes'. It was between this and Basil Brush lmao, and now I do regret not going for the latter but ah well. BJSC Halloween: Unison - 'Blood Blood Blood' I didn't know which route I wanted to go down at first, but then I thought that a spooky sub genre I quite liked was 'Witch House'. So I scoured through a lot of witch house YouTube playlists for something obscure and it was love at first listen. BJSC Christmas: Glasvegas - 'A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss)' I had NO idea which way to go for this, at one point I even considered the Snoop Dogg mash-up from Pitch Perfect or Jingle Cats lmao. But I then heard Leww's potential ('Stay Another Day') and thought ooh why not something alternative, I don't need to be silly. So I searched through lots of 'alternative Christmas songs' playlists and fell in love with this. TL;DR: Mainly YouTube. June 12, 20178 yr gonna do an October 2016 - present day update: LXXXIX: Some kind of YouTube trawl after finding stuff for PJSC (but then got "banned for spam" despite my posts never getting through! bunch of skanks the lot of them), and I wanted another Halloween-inspired thing. I dunno, symphonic metal never really used to be my thing until this contest, so I'm glad I got these guys to the final. XC: Contact - "Never Stop" This won the PJSC edition I was on! yaaaaaay lmao i'm so cheap :P XCI: Found this through Proximity and immediately saw all the Porter Robinson comparisons. Glad this stuck around after two and a half months, especially when my last January pick didn't get that far :P XCII: Another PJSC scouring session. I liked "Gravity" but then found this and loved it even more. XCIII: This was on a YouTube playlist that I randomly glanced at, forgot which one but I remember stumbling into it after going through an H&M playlist :D XCIV: another PJSC trawl :D Actually remembered this song from searching for Masquerade but wanted to save this for the main contest. This and my Masquerade entry flopped so either Quintessan artists are an omen or I should have sent Noonie Bao when I had the chance :P XCV: A panicked trawl through Ultra Music's channel led me to this and the tropical afrohouse vibes sold me on this.
June 12, 20178 yr BJSC 88 - MOWE & Daniel Nitt - Lovers Friends - One of my chartster friends' voting charts. Took me a few weeks to fully get into it though BJSC 89 - Royce Lovett - I Wanna Love You - I was browsing Christian musicians and came across this fella and quite liked this non-religious song, so I thought I might send it (oops) BJSC 90 - AJR - I'm Not Famous - Suggested to me by a voter on my now-dead Voting Chart BJSC 91 - Captain Cuts ft. Nateur - Love Like We Used To - On my 'Discover Weekly' playlist on Spotify. It sounded good at the time (and obviously did to you guys as well, being my highest position to date) BJSC 92 - NINA - Beyond Memory - I'd heard her song from that car advert and this was advertised on that song's page! (that was about half a year before I actually sent it though - it was one of my contenders for 88 actually) BJSC 93 - OHEY ft. Emily Jean - Remember - Another of my chartster friends' charts (this chart focused on scene music though) BJSC 94 - Project Jenny, Project Jan - Train Track - Downloaded from RCRD LBL back when I was 8/9, it's been one of my favourites for quite a time. BJSC 95 - Torul - Monday - Yet another of my friends' voting charts, I immediately thought BJSC when I heard it. Instrumentals - Arpadys - Monkey Star - Got from the FabricLive.31 CD my dad had - another I've liked for a long time Country - Douwe Bob - How Lucky We Are - One I found on YouTube, obviously not long after Slow Down Japan vs. South Korea - NU'EST - Face - Another from a voting chart 80s - Kane Gang - Don't Look Any Further - was really panicking for this one - I knew there used to be a 'Club Mix XX' series so I just randomly typed in 'Club Mic 88' and this was the first song on the CD. BuzzjackFestivalen - Albanian Popular Music Ensemble of Tirana - Myrtle Flower - Our family regularly have 'country nights' - going through the alphabet and eating food, doing a quiz and listening to a song from that country. This is the song we chose for Albania.
