I really like Outside, although it's not a great album, but for me it was the album where he started being interesting again, after the previous 10 years, where announcing you were a Bowie fan was often looked on with bemusement and derision.

It's not instantly accessible for many people but it has hidden depths and gems.

 

I've gone for Earthling which I always found a bit too much like he was trying to be cutting edge rather than be himself.
