May 4, 20169 yr Well, caught up with some of their stuff. I think I'll reserve judgement until the song comes out. They obviously have a solid following so it will be interesting to see what the collaboration produces. I'm always dubious when there are headlines with words such as 'fantastic' thrown around. I remember Howard saying something similar about 'Hey Boy' and look how that turned out :)
May 4, 20169 yr Yes, i never buy in to the "fantastic" write ups and name drops as i am often left disappointed. This does not solely refer to Take That but i wait with caution until my own beautiful ears get to hear the music. I only allow my own ears to decide if it is fantastic or not.
May 4, 20169 yr I really want it to be a big big song! If it is then it could really give TT the exposure on radio and to younger generations that they haven't had in a while
May 5, 20169 yr rob has done the same with Avicii in 2014 only Avicii featuring him. suddenly every rob fan was interested in Avicii (but few vice versa)It scored number one in a dozen countries and was one of the most playes songs outside the UK 2014. It didn't score well in the UK. Sigma is the contrary, not even slightly comparable with the success of Avicii in the world, but 'big' in the UK. the featuring is modern these days. At the end it helped some old acts to a hit single. But if the other stuff is not good it is short lived, TT and rob have to produce great material for those who are the target group (like Adele) otherwise they will lose their faithful fans but do not win new ones, at least not in masses. this train is gone for both acts and TT did great to achieve a second chance once. May 5, 20169 yr Yes, the collaboration needs to be strong. I was surprised by how poor the Robbie and Avicii single performed in the UK. I did expect it to be a huge hit. Ideally, this upcoming duet with Sigma will be a smash hit and a quality track, but success in this capacity can be short lived as is in many cases. How Take That follow this up is important and it is crucial they get the sound right on the next album before they alienate any more fans or people who would usually purchase their albums. They most certainly need to work on the singles, getting the right singles released is one thing but as we have openly discussed here the promotion and marketing has in the past been a disaster and they need to change this.
May 5, 20169 yr It's good that they are bridging the gap between a new album and keeping them on people's minds. Was Rob/Avicii actually released in the UK? I seem to remember it was canned after originally being scheduled to go up against These Days
May 6, 20169 yr I am unsure whether it was officially released but it enter the charts i think around number 80. The track was rumoured to have been re-recorded with Brandon Flowers but that too appears to have been shelved as a release. In my opinion the Brandon Flowers version was slightly better than the version with Robbie.
May 6, 20169 yr That's much quicker than I expected. It will be interesting to hear the sound and to find out what, if any, promotion they've lined up.
May 7, 20169 yr I hope, for their sake, that the song is a success and it sells very well. But I'm not mad about dance music and that's where this is heading; I hope we don't get another Hey Boy, cause that would be the end of me :D I like the fact that we have something to entertain us and keep us going till the TT album, but it's the boys' own music I'm interested in. There's one thing I've been mulling over for the past days - if TT can do collabs and can release singles that aren't related to a particular album, why can't Gary? He's obviously too busy to have time for a solo album, but couldn't he release a couple of singles from time to time?
May 7, 20169 yr Milly, I think he's simply too busy. I also think he's mindful of over exposure and still aware that any media limelight brings out his distractors in droves. I imagine he's considered bringing out a single to publicise The Girls musical but to date he's obviously backed off that option, although the album is in the pipeline. He considered releasing Home as a charity single following the documentary, but decided against that as well. I'm not a fan of dance music so I'll be listening with trepidation on the release date. Believe it or not, I still have an irrational aversion to Hey Boy and can't listen to it. I would be surprised if the single does well because TT really have dropped off the radar with much of the buying public, especially the younger demographic and I can't imagine many dance fans embracing TT, although stranger things have happened. The reunion itself will be a very good indicator of the strength of TT's fan support and the extent to which they still interest the buying public. This is a strange time for the music business. Some acts such as Adele have bucked the trend, but acts I would have expected to perform strongly, such as Zayn Malik (coming straight off the back of a huge ID fan base) have had relatively poor sales in the UK at least.
May 9, 20169 yr Hey Boy was a terrible choice of single. I would be in agreeance that such a direction would be disastrous and i would question if i would purchase an album from Take That if they move in that musical direction. I do enjoy some dance music myself and i have enjoyed some of the Sigma releases to date. Dance music has no many variations, some i enjoy and i don't but i wait in anticipation to hear the Sigma and Take That duet.
