September 28, 200618 yr as i've argued so many times I don't care what labels bands are on so not really sure which bands I know are on the above... that said, am quite sure there have been some bands i liked on mute so will go with that one.... Edited September 28, 200618 yr by IndiElectronica
September 28, 200618 yr Mute are probably the most autonomous, being as they were, totally self-sustaining for almost 25 years, but even they are now part of EMI's Corporate umbrella... V2 are part of the Virgin/EMI Corporation (V2 - 'Virgin 2' innit...?) and were NEVER an Indie label at any point... Regal were part of Columbia Records and are now part of EMI Corp, never self-sustaining at any point Echo Records were set up by The Chrysalis Group, which at one point owned Chrysalis records (now owned by EMI), again, never self-sustaining
September 28, 200618 yr Author V2 are part of the Virgin/EMI Corporation (V2 - 'Virgin 2' innit...?) and were NEVER an Indie label at any point... well this is where you have slipped up a bit, as V2 is not part of EMI like Virgin records but is an indepentdent record label that was set up by the Virgin corporation and now mostly owned by venture capital peoples. however does that make it indie? if you look at the acts on the label that says yes i suppose you could take the view that they are going back to the beginning of virgin mk 1 when it was all that 'hippie $h!t' (which today is as valid as all the punk that came after it?)
September 29, 200618 yr well this is where you have slipped up a bit, as V2 is not part of EMI like Virgin records but is an indepentdent record label that was set up by the Virgin corporation and now mostly owned by venture capital peoples. If it was set up by Virgin in the first instance, then it aint independent , it's one of these tricks that major labels pull all the time, V2 aint the first one like this, and they wont be the last... I'd be interested to know who these 'venture capital people' are that you're talking about, what's their background....?
September 29, 200618 yr however does that make it indie? if you look at the acts on the label that says yes wha?!?! that's my arguement!!!
September 29, 200618 yr Author If it was set up by Virgin in the first instance, then it aint independent , it's one of these tricks that major labels pull all the time, but wasnt virgin like an independent label when it started (i suppose this in the hippy pre-punk era when the independent explosion didnt happen). and they had the sex pistols on their roster without being outraged and bowing to the men in the suits to get rid of them.
