September 28, 200618 yr C4 10pm October 5 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/78/Scream_movie_poster.jpg the most influencial horror movie of the last 10 years? In as far as it's influenced a lot of sub-standard 'post modernist' rubbish - "Shaun of the Dead" aside - and remakes.....Yes..... It may be influential to a lot of Americans, but it really means nothing anywhere else.... I've not seen its influence upon J-Horror or Korean horror, or UK/European horror films. A shame "Shaun of the Dead" didn't get there first, it may have inspired a lot more creatvity, because SotD is certainly a far better film and the reactions of its jaded 'media generation' characters to the seemingly ridiculous situation they find themselves in are a lot more naturalistic, and consequently, funnier. "Scream" was an okay film at the time because it fit in to whole Post-Tarantino generation, but as far as I'm concerned it has done a hell of a lot of damage to the Horror genre, because just about every US horror film since seems to feel the need to have this whole 'self-reflexive' quality to it which invites us to smirk knowingly to ourselves rather than build up an atmosphere of tension and shocks which is what a Horror film is supposed to do. I was never really scared by "Scream" because I just thought I was watching some "Airplane"-type movie most of the time, and by the time "Scary Movie" came along I just thought 'why are they satirising something that is clearly already a satire..?"
September 28, 200618 yr This movie is quite good!, The first 12 minutes are outstanding, but the rest are just fine
September 28, 200618 yr This movie is quite good!, The first 12 minutes are outstanding, but the rest are just fine If the film had only been those first 12 minutes then it would've been a great film....  Nothing that comes after it comes close to matching the opening scene, which is pretty bad really, you shoot your entire wad in the first sequence and then have no real back-up, uh, oh......

Totally agree, i never liked Neve Campbell in lead role ethier  Drew was cast first, but couldnt due to conflict! might have been a different movie! But the first 12 mins Rocked  Scream 2 was ok as well, but 3 was vile :puke2: Edited September 28, 200618 yr by :Ryan:
September 28, 200618 yr i love scream, but i watched scary movie first though, so it kind of spoilt it abit for me because i knew what was going to happen
September 29, 200618 yr It's an okay movie but not scary in the slightest. I love it when the girl tries squeezing through the cat flap!

September 30, 200618 yr Thought this was a great film, the acting was superb The acting was acceptable, about the only one who you could say was actually convincing was Drew Barrymore and she was offed in the first 10 minutes, the rest veered from above average (Courteney Cox/Neve Campbell) to diabolical (Henry Winkler/Skeet Ulrich)....
September 30, 200618 yr It scared me first time i watched it :o but i think the scream films are good, it mainly scared me when she was hangin from that tree at the start :(
September 30, 200618 yr it mainly scared me when she was hangin from that tree at the start :( Yeah, that is the one part of the film where you can honestly say that there's a real shock... The beginning of "Scream" is one of the best opening gambits I've seen in any horror film (or indeed any other film), ever; even as good as the shock-opening of "Halloween" where the killer of the baby-sitter turns out to be the kid she's looking after (who then grows into Michael Myers for the main part of the film..), genuinely shocking no matter how many times you see it.... A real shame, then, the rest of "Scream", unlike the rest of "Halloween", just does not match up to its superb opening...
September 30, 200618 yr I dont think the rest of Scream is terrible , its still a good film, just not asexcellent like the 1st 10 minutes
September 30, 200618 yr I dont think the rest of Scream is terrible , its still a good film, just not asexcellent like the 1st 10 minutes i like the first 10 mins it's quite scary but the rest of the film isn't bad, i think it all is brilliant, except the end, it would have been better not to find out who the killer was, and the ending of the second film was even worse, who was that women?

The rest of "Scream" is average, which wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't been for the fact that the opening was so damn impressive.... In fact, if the WHOLE thing had just been consistently 'okay' and it never even had that good beginning then we wouldn't all be going 'Hey, great beginning, shame the rest of it was only ok....'  I think "Scream" is really where Craven began to lose his touch to be honest....Mind you, "Shocker" and "People Under The Stairs" werent that good either....
September 30, 200618 yr It's one of my all-time favourites. Nothing has the intensity of the opening scene but I wouldn't say it lags as badly as most horror films. Even the last scene (where the high body count gets annoying) stays engaging. The killers stabbing each other 'for effect' is a great final act.
September 30, 200618 yr The killers stabbing each other 'for effect' is a great final act. Nah, that's the bit where I just went "Oh, Please.......". Very silly, and I can happily sit through zombies, werewolves and vampires and suspend my disbelief.....

I quite enjoyed seeing actors pretending to be serial killers pretending to be victims. Edited September 30, 200618 yr by Tim
