Best film of the year (just beating Order Of The Phoenix :o ) - special effects were awesome, good storyline and even some humour :D

And now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to set fire to the film reviewer of the Daily Mail who gave it one star. ^_^

forbidden planet fanboy by any chance with a name like Nightcrawler????

if this was the best film of the year then its a sad day for the film industry worldwide not just in h'w'd!!! it was alright not a one star but obv not a five star, probs more a 2 - 2.5 and actually I liked the HP film better esp the production design (note: not gonna bother read books or have seen the previous hp film so cant compare)

transformer?

you know that site where you put things ina blender, well this film is like that, put loads of things in a blender, a bit of jarhead hear, bit of gone in 60 seconds there, some random weird herbie remake for the black tyler perry/norbit community etc etc then add explosions and blend for 2 hours. and with the wanking joke i thought i was tuned into some kinda warped that 70s show  couldnt actually work out what the target aud was exactly if it was one big advert for toys like the press had stated as its probs not the kinda film to take a 5 year old to, then i realized the target aud must have seen them in the 80s, he's about 35 - 37, fat balding with a beard, lives in the basement of his mums house, collects collectables and sometimes goes by the name of warlock

for most of the time it was one big advert esp for General motors in america (bumblebee should have been a corsa!!! next time perhaps oh c'mon, c'mon, c'mon)

I definitely could've lived without having to suffer Megan Fox's feeble attempts at "acting", which seem to consist entirely of her pouting and exposing her midriff....

well that moment i had thought i had walked into another texas chainsaw massacre film, what with all the 70s retrovision

Shia Lebouef , however, was fun, a good potential comedy actor here, great sense of comic timing... He deserved a lot better than the rather crappy lines of dialogue he had to spout.....

Shia yeah icool you can see why they are presicting big things for him, could be the next tom hanks or dustin hoffman, could follow Joseph Gordon-Levitt into some really cool films to.

good to see Sucre too!!!

Forbidden Planet Fanboy and proud of it.

So basically because you didn't like it then it's not allowed to be the best film of the year for others? I wonder what your personal best film of the year so far is then? Don't get me wrong the HP film was very very good, but in my opinion, as someone who has read the books and seen the previous films, it could have been a LOT better.

Clearly. How on earth did you guess that myself and the other people in the thread who actually liked the film are all 35-37, fat, balding, have beards, live in the basement of our parents' houses, collect collectables and, of course, we all go by the name of Warlock? A very sweeping statement there I feel.

It's only the "Film Of The Year" if all you watch is generic, production line Hollywood product mate..... Sorry, but it really was average at best... The genuinely funny scene with the Autobots trying to hide themselves from Sam's parents was the one stroke of inspiration (and about the ONLY time when any effort is made to infuse a bit of character into the Transformers..) in an otherwise so-so effort... Frankly, I enjoyed "Die Hard 4" and "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" a LOT more than this, I was bitterly disappointed by the fact that it takes over an HOUR for Optimus Prime to show up, and then over another HALF HOUR or so after that before we se Megatron in action (finally..), and here was me thinking that this film as called "Transformers" if you get my drift.... Until then, we have to suffer a lot of second-rate exposition, lousy dialogue, pathetic attempts by Megan Fox at "emoting", and an incredibly c**p sub-"Men In Black"/"X-Files"/Roswell (the place and the actual alleged event, not the TV show I hasten to add....) conspiracy-type thingie with rogue Govt agencies (blah, blah, YAWWWWWNNNN!!!) and the usually excellent John Turturro completely embarrassing himself in a role totally beneath his award-winning stature... Even the action scenes are pretty badly photographed, usual bloody Micheal Bay sh!t, cant even be bothered to hold a fukkin' camera straight... <_< And, please, dont give me that "oh, he's doing a gritty, documentary style" yadda, yadda, yadda....... That's a feeble excuse for BAD CINEMATOGRAPHY in my book.... He should really talk to either of the Scott Brothers (Tony or Ridley), James Cameron or John Woo about actually FRAMING SHOTS PROPERLY and PROPERLY CHOREOGRAPHING a decent action scene..... This "MTV-style camerawork/editing" $h!t is getting seriously old and seriously cliched, and it ruins potentially good films.....

This probably would have been the best Summer film in the hands of Peter Jackson, Mamuro Oshii, John Woo, Ridley Scott, or hell, even James Cameron (so long as it was "Terminator"-standard James Cameron, and not "Titanic" standard James Cameron...) and it had a decent script, but we got Hack-Boy Michael Bay and a couple of other 'rent-a-hacks' to slaughter the script instead....

I really wanted to like this film mate, REALLY.... "Transformers" was part of my childhood, and these goons just PISHED ON IT for me.... There is a very special place in the darkest pits of Hell for Michael fukkin' Bay..... <_< <_<

really REALLY enjoyed this, pretty unexpected i must say, special effects were indeed fantastic, must have cost a bomb

This is the common mistake a lot of people seem to make though mate... Confusing SFX with an actual decent script or storyline and strong characterisation. All of these things are seriously lacking in this film... Yes, the effects (when you can actually see them that is, and they're not being obscured by some of the dreadful, St Vitus Dance, camerawork..) are undeniably good, but unless you have the strong script, it counts for jack all... Usual story, they spend about a hundred million on the FX and about ten bucks developing the script....

"hello did someone mention me??? oh lord "

I LOVED IT!!! And think it should get best film, but that's only because I really do just watch generic Hollywood films like Scott said ahah (:. But I was really surprised because I was complaining to my boyfriend so much about it being such a boys' film, but when it started I was just like "wow". And the Even Steven boy's parents were hilarious.

Talking of John Turturro though, was the th FBI agent Scott? And was he Shooter in Secret Window? Because I recognise him from somewhere and it's quite annoying ahah.

Well, technically, he was the "Section 7" agent CH..... ;) , but yeah, that's him... And he did play Shooter...

Ah well, I was confused by that point anyway! Everything went to fast for my brain to comprehend aha!

Oh I definitely agree with you about him then, the character he played in this film was just a joke and essentially really unecessary :/.

disappointed!! 4 out of 10 they messed it up, it could have been so much better. i agree with the comments grimly made why did it take so long for the transformers to appear? also the relationships between them should have been explored more like the tense megatron and starscream relationship for example but it was all about the humans and it shouldn't have been, i was hoping for more robot screen time less humans.

it should have been a complete boys film but they had to tag on the love interest storyline to attract female cinema goers but that doesn't belong in a transformers film why compromise? it was forced. the action sequences weren't clear badly filmed and weren't jaw dropping like they could have been.

but my biggest problem with the film though was the designs of the robots, they were too fussy and intricate, thats not how they look in the toys and cartoon, their faces didn't have any character like the cartoon did. they should have made the designs clearer simpler more like the citreon ad transformer, megatron was the worst a mess much going on. the sequel needs to be 1000x better than this first effort they need to set it in cybertron with minimal actors more transformers i want to see dinbots :D the storyline all about the transformers interaction with each other

john turturro was annoying and miscast sort it out hollywood!

Think ScFiNow Magazine got it spot on in their review on pages 72-73 of their current edition: the verdict: "This is a poor film, but it's one wth exciting visuals. It's also helped by this being a disappointing summer 3/5"

i agree with their whole review. totally yeah.

now bratz!!! i wonder if that film has been developed in the same way as transformers (as one big advert to sell product), but with loads of teen movies stuck in the blender so if Transformers is for boys this will come out for girls

  • 3 weeks later...

I was truly impressed and surprised...

I came cuz of my brother who's a fan and cuz I love Shia Labeouf :D

But what I saw was beyond my expectations... :) Great movie, great s-f, Shia had a cool role, i liked the script, it was so funny whan it came to Sam's dialogues... :D

And the soundtrack.. amazing.

Even if you're not a fan of the comic books, you should see it. Perfect entertainer the movie is :)

I loved it.

Except it didn't have Ultra Magnus in, who is my favourite Autobot and Soundwave was quite annoying (abit like Jar Jar Binks) when in the 80's animated version he's rather cool (H)

And will Megatron come back as Galvatron in a possible Transformers 2? Only time will tell.
