On Tuesday "George Klein Day" was celebrated in the city of Memphis. It was a special honor for the man known for his friendship with Elvis, his charity work and his long broadcast career. Klein was given a proclamation and a key to the city by Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton during a surprise meeting at the Peabody Hotel. Klein began his broadcast career back in 1957. He now hosts the tv show "Memphis Sounds". He also hosts a radio program on Sirius Satellite Radio (The Elvis Channel 13). Klein is also involved in a number of charities around the Mid-South.

I was lucky enough to meet George in Memphis last year, whilst he was recording his radio show on Sirius. The show is broadcast from Graceland Plaza, which is across the road from Graceland itself. I only wanted an autograph and photo with him, but he invited me onto his show and proceeded to interview me :o I'm never usually lost for words, but I was then  He gave me his card which has a picture of when Elvis was the Best Man at his wedding  He's a lovely guy and I'm very happy that he has been honoured in this way
