March 10, 20169 yr Author 06 Sunblock I'll Be Ready {4}-7-8-11-13-17-24-31-39-54-62->11 KZqvvy0dfw8 More 80s covers now and this time from Sunblock who remixed 'I'm Always Here', the theme from Baywatch which ran from 1989 through most of the 90s. Retitled 'I'll Be Ready' and featuring a video with both women and men in very little clothing - it of course smashed its way into the chart. Sunblock were Magnus Nordin and Martin Pihl from Sweden but used female dancers as their group image. Around this time was the peak of sexualised dance videos so this comes as no surprise. The song was one of my faves of the year for its nice house beats and summer feel but of course there are five more songs to come in this countdown. The duo would go on to release an album titled... I'll Be Ready - The Album :'), as well as have 2 further hits - both of which were cover versions. So yeah, not a lot of originality with this group, but this song is quite the tune.
March 10, 20169 yr Author 05 Beatfreakz Somebody's Watching Me 21-{3}-4-5-11-17-28-24-23-27-30-35-47-56-71->15 Lh8_4qqX5bo Oh what's this? Yes it's another 80s cover version. At least it's the last one for 2006, as I'm running out of things to say about these songs. This is deffo the best of them though, great use of sample and house beat and it holds up well 10 years on too. Beatfreakz are Dutch duo Errol Lafleur and Mark Simmons who like Sunblock did just cover versions in a dance style. This of course samples the Rockwell song of the same name which contained backing vocals from Michael Jackson, which probably was the inspiration for the great music video which parodied the iconic 'Thriller'. Beatfreakz would later go on to make 'Superfreak' (#16 in this countdown) which peaked at #7 and they would never see the chart again afterwards. Not bad for a group that seemed certain to be one-hit wonders really. The final four consists of Bodyrox, Cascada, David Guetta vs. The Egg and Fedde Le Grand and will be revealed over the next 2 days.
March 12, 20169 yr There were waaay too many covers that year. I'll Be Ready was by far the best... Just remembered Everytime We Touch was 2006 so I'm rooting for that instead now.
March 12, 20169 yr Author 04 Cascada Everytime We Touch 41-4-{2}-5-4-10-12-12-7-12-15-15-21-26-32-38-35-38-38-50-42R(4)-47-46-53-58-60-70-71-65-53-48-48-47-58-65-73-67-66-74->39 4G6QDNC4jPs Cascada as you probably know are a three-piece group from Germany, made up of Natalie Horler, Manuel Reuter (Manian) and Yann Peifer (Yanou) - though the casual listener would probably presume the group consisted of just their singer as that was their image. If asked to sum up the sound of the Clubland era with just one song, 'Everytime We Touch' would be the obvious choice. With its hard hitting eurotrance beats n synths and a strong female vocal to back, it was one of the year's biggest hits and deservedly so. Even going top 10 in the US but oddly flopping in Australia. Cascada would prove themselves to be a chart force, going top 10 a further four times including getting a #1.
March 12, 20169 yr Amazing track still 10 years on  this, What Hurts The Most & Miracle were all superb eurodance.
March 12, 20169 yr Author 03 David Guetta vs. The Egg Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away) [feat. Chris Willis] 28-{3}-5-8-14-16-17-24-28-28-37-40-53-61-55-53-55-69-67-72->20 if3upbrsyr4 David Guetta of course needs no introduction, but let's not forget that it was just ten years ago when all the man had to his name was a top 20 and a handful of other top 75s. This all changed with the re-release of 2002's #46 'Love Don't Let Me Go', albeit in a new form - as it was mashed up with The Egg's 'Walking Away' for this new release. This would become the first of 22 top 10 hits [a number likely to increase still] for David Guetta, but for The Egg [five piece British electronic band] it would be their only top 40 hit. The song and video instantly wowed me at the time, and I'd like to think that it was this song as well as my top 2 of the year that signalled the beginning of a new era for dance music, where electro house was king. The guitar riff and Willis' vocal provided one of the best buildups to a drop I had heard, and the drop was completely insane, seriously fresh for the time. To this day it remains one of Guetta's top tunes, though he has outdone himself since. Come back tomorrow to find out which one of Bodyrox and Fedde Le Grand takes the title for my top dance tune of 2006.
March 12, 20169 yr I believe I love every song in your top 10 so far! 2006 was such a good year for dance music, it all sounds very retro now but it's charming, and I'd put any of those on to enjoy. Even when they were picking 80s hits instead of writing original songs, they did well in picking fairly mid-range, slightly forgotten hits to get a dance makeover. Everytime We Touch is my favourite, as the best Cascada song, it's pretty timeless dance-pop. Out of the top 2 I'd want Fedde Le Grand (and I suspect that'll have no problem taking it :kink: ).
March 12, 20169 yr Oh yes definitely remains one of his best to this day, sublime tune. That Citroen ad too  I think I know whose your winner there but both seriously great tracks.
March 13, 20169 yr Miracle is my favorite Cascada single, a tad underrated. Stoned In Love is easily my fav from this mediocre bunch, I really disliked most of these 80s rehashes. Edited March 13, 20169 yr by Euphorique

Would you believe it actually nearly spent longer in the Aus chart than the UK? 87-88-92-97-76-72-73-85-89-85-77-71-{61}-67-77-85-78-73-70-81-97-87-86-76-70-76-77-80-®81-83-81-79->32  Rooting for Fedde Le Grand in this top 2!
March 13, 20169 yr Author ah that makes more sense! I was living in Aus at the time and remember seeing the Everytime We Touch vid a fair bit on TV so was under the impression it was a decent hit, I was actually researching its peaks across the world so I could say 'it was also big in US/Australia' but turned out it only made #61 which was a surprise. Well at least it spent a long time in the top 100 I guess.
March 13, 20169 yr I personally prefer the Bodyrox track but am expecting Put Your Hands Up For Detroit to win out here.
March 13, 20169 yr LOVE Everytime We Touch & Love Don't Let Me Go, both artists became rather hit and miss after these so these remain gems in their discographies. 2006 wasn't a vintage year for dance, but I do have good memories of bopping to MTV Dance a lot this year so will always hold it in high regard. I think this top 2 will be the same as it was in the official chart when they were both there! Both jams though. Edited March 13, 20169 yr by chart wizard
March 14, 20169 yr Did 'Superfreak' have some controversy over a sticker on its CD single by any chance if I remember?
March 15, 20169 yr Author 02 Bodyrox Yeah Yeah [feat. Luciana] 45-62-73-11-{2}-6-10-12-13-15-29-29-26-21-29-32-36-48-55-72->20 2l5FSlD8U1o Jon Pearn and Nick Bridges, aka British electro house duo Bodyrox got their debut hit towards the end of the year with what is easily one of the best dance songs of the 00s. The song's success however could not have happened without the input of D. Ramirez, whose remix gave the song its popularity although he is not officially credited on the release. Ramirez had previous success in the UK chart 10 years prior as part of The Lisa Marie Experience with 'Keep On Jumpin'. The song also introduced the world to Luciana who would go on to have 2 more top 40 hits and remain popular as a dance music vocalist for the next decade to come. Bodyrox and Luciana would also team up for follow-up single 'What Planet You On', which was largely a disappointment and thus only charted at #54. Bodyrox would to everyone's surprise appear in the top 10 once more in 2010 with N-Dubz but sadly that song wasn't anywhere near the quality of this. This is a serious banger and definitely one of the songs that really got me into electro-house music alongside 'Love Don't Let Me Go' and 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit'. The latter was infact the song that stopped this from going to #1 in the UK singles chart and is also what beats this to #1 in this countdown.
March 15, 20169 yr I find "Love Don't Let Me Go" to be rather overrated as far as Guetta songs go. I actually had no idea Manian was in Cascada :o I just saw him as a hardstyle legend.
March 15, 20169 yr Author 01 Fedde Le Grand Put Your Hands Up For Detroit 53-62-xx-2-{1}-4-6-7-8-9-15-19-18-16-19-26-30-32-40-49-48-58-71->22 10pmPiK8pi8 Those who know me well would've seen this result coming since I started this thread. Of course it is this piece of excellence that tops the 2006 countdown. The production just wowed me from the start, seriously very few dance songs have amazed me more with the drop than this one did. Especially at a time when the majority of the charts weren't at all club-dance oriented, this and 'Yeah Yeah' stood out well above all the rest. At one point in time I would have called this my favourite song ever too, but many songs have since overtaken as since the start of this decade my music taste has grown significantly and of course many amazing songs have been released since. This would be just the start of a hat-trick of 11/10 moments from the Dutch DJ, who is still very popular today as a DJ and producer although his days of getting chart hits are long gone. He has also significantly changed his style of music since, which I do like in a producer although the sad thing is that in his case his new stuff just isn't that great.
