I enjoy it, but in her 80s repertoire there are others I enjoy so much more. I do know quite a few IRL people who deem it to be their favourite Madonna song though.

Really surprised this is not top 5 !!!
GOOD at that dropping so relatively early. For a song that is supposed to be about putting you in the party mood, it's always sounded joyless and flat to me. Her vocal doesn't really offer any of the energy or vigour that so many songs she recorded around that time do and the whole thing comes off as a solid, but unspectacular, effort. That it's her biggest selling single in the UK and perpetually ranked among her very best baffles me (and not even ALLEGEDLY).

I'd have been a lot happier if Express Yourself and Into The Grove had switched places in this rate.
I really enjoy ITG but I am baffled that it's her highest selling single here. Doesn't seem even half as popular as some of her more iconic moments but I assume a lot is to do with chart sales around the times of release maybe? Either way, it's very GOOD but not as good as the sales/hype suggest imo.

Yeah, the early to mid-80s were a good time for sales but fell into decline the rest of the decade and didn't pick up again until the mid-90s. So whilst 'Into the Groove' enjoyed four weeks just below or well over 100k, 'Like a Prayer' and 'Vogue' didn't get higher than 70k/80k.

Then, as we know, the early 00s saw another decline until 2009, so 'Music', 'Hung Up' and '4 Minutes' all suffered sales lower than their status suggested!

Madge's successful periods came at the wrong time sales-wise!

Yeah Vogue is around 550k if I remember correctly? Which seems insane given how iconic it is. Hung Up was definitely another big casualty, it was HUGE, relative to everything else in Q4 2005. It just so happened that everything else was selling piss all.

Yeah that's right. 'Hung Up' is probably around/approaching the 650k mark with streams added, which is a good 200k higher than what it had sold by the end of 2006 (thankfully a lot of 00s classics are also above the Platinum mark due to downloads/streams to make them more reflective of their status). It did have huge opening sales for the time and I think it managed 30k of ineligible downloads before that too.

'Like a Prayer' is on similar sales too.

surprised at the lack of love for Into the Groove :(

When it's time for siesta you can watch them go by!

08. La Isla Bonita // True Blue // 8.97

(0: Griff 4: jakewild) // 11: Bjork, Chapman, River lea, ketalina , Mango, NotFurlong, 10: Liam, Regina, SamJudd, Kylie Jackson, Maurice, Qween, Alejandjob, Ultraviolence, Jark, )

8th place goes to the True Blue classic 'Las Isla Bonita', which seems to remain a huge fan favourite, as can be seen by the score and placing here. This song has an exotic feel, with cuban drums and Spanish guitars, precaution and lyrics. Though this was the first of Madonna's song to explore Spanish influences, it's something that soon became a reoccurring theme throughout many of her songs. 'La Isla Bonita' was a number 1 in the UK back in the 80s, but is still very fondly remembered today, I'd even say it's still climbing the ranks of her most iconic songs, even today, it's performed at most of Madonna's tours apparently, so it's clearly a favourite of hers!

Looking at the incredible amount of high scores here, I'm surprised this didn't place even higher, but of course, Griff gave it a 0 and jakewild gave it a 4, which probably cost it a place or two.

Has Griff even commented on the results once?! :drama:

Told u to not count griff !!!

What a fool !!!

What a TUNE. So summery and feel-good but also quite sombre when you think about the lyrics and the longing to be somewhere else. Always sounds fabulous though.

Was a real highlight (after Deeper and Deeper) at the Rebel Heart Tour too.

La Isla Bonita is probably her most JOYOUS song. It exudes joy and happiness and summery vibes and it's perfect.

'Get Into The Groove' is timeless and should have made the top 5. It's one of the remaining blue prints of pop music.

I've been MIA until recently so I didn't get to vote in the rate, but here's my top 10;

1. Hollywood (Jacques LuCont's remix is even more phenomenal)

2. Hung Up

3. Get Into The Groove

4. The Power of Goodbye

5. Vogue

6. Like A Prayer

7. Frozen

8. la Isla Bonita

9. Burning Up

10. Holiday

All of those are 11/10 moments, tbh.
