Posted September 28, 200618 yr quite a strange line-up for a Best of... there's not a single song from their best album (Black Celebration)? Anyway - here's the tracklisting. 1. Personal Jesus 2. Just Can't Get Enough 3. Everything Counts 4. Enjoy The Silence 5. Shake The Disease 6. See You 7. It's No Good 8. Strangelove 9. Suffer Well 10. Dream On 11. People Are People 12. Martyr* 13. Walking In My Shoes 14. I Feel You 15. Precious 16. Master And Servant 17. New Life 18. Never Let Me Down Again My personal fave from this list is Shake the Disease.... but the new single Martyr is pretty darn amazing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v679/russy68/depeche.jpg Edited September 28, 200618 yr by russt68
September 28, 200618 yr I don't know why this is in Chart Chat  Moving to Music: Culture as Depeche Mode are sort of genre-less :D
September 29, 200618 yr I already have their two previous best ofs 81-85 86-98, so i don't think i'll bother with this one....unless it has a dvd with it.
September 29, 200618 yr Author I don't know why this is in Chart Chat  Moving to Music: Culture as Depeche Mode are sort of genre-less :D I agree they don't fit any genre... but is is going to be a chart success...and it's hardly 'pop' or 'indie'.

September 29, 200618 yr how many greatest hits / best of have they released now ? dont know as they might have had loads in other markets. over here the book says 3 up till now (early stuff, newer stuff and remixes) oh and there's this as well from the various folk do music for the masses http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/96/ForTheMasses.jpg [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPTxKh8BK7c.swf and if they are alright by them they are alright by me http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/Rammstein-flamethrowers.jpg (and not in german either!!!)
September 29, 200618 yr I don't know why this is in Chart Chat  Moving to Music: Culture as Depeche Mode are sort of genre-less :D Considering that DM have had over 40 singles actually in the Charts and they've sold over 73 million records in their career, I fail to see how this doesn't qualify for the Chart Chat Forum, but, hey, fair enough....... :) And Russ - no doubt that stuff like "Question of Time", "Stripped" and "Question of Lust" will crop up in Vol 2...... I've pretty much got all of these songs anyway, and I dont really see much of a justification for having another two DM 'Best Of's when you consider there's only been two albums worth of new stuff since the "86-98" Singles Compilation....

September 29, 200618 yr is it time to play the blame emi game   It probably is them, more than Mute themselves..... I doubt Gahan or Gore will complain too much though....
September 29, 200618 yr Author you can hear the new single, 'Martyr', here. http://www.stereogum.com/archives/003464.html Speaking of Depeche Mode... I can't think of a single band who've lasted this well, continued to make cracking music and been as consistently successful as Depeche Mode.... not even U2 (whose first hits weren't really til 83/84). Yet... they're all-but ignored in the awards ceremonies in their homeland. Disgraceful. Edited September 29, 200618 yr by russt68

I can't think of a single band who've lasted this well, continued to make cracking music and been as consistently successful as Depeche Mode.... not even U2 (whose first hits weren't really til 83/84). dont know about the really really early stuff for both of the acts, but have to agree that in all that 1990s stuff U2 sound $h!t. its only the last two albums that sounded good. esp. elevation. and a couple of things ive heard on like the hits retro hour.
September 29, 200618 yr Yet... they're all-but ignored in the awards ceremonies in their homeland. Disgraceful. Absolutely mate, they should've received their "Lifetime Achievement" Award years ago... They certainly merit it a damn sight more than the likes of Duran Duran who were never nearly as consistent as DM....
September 29, 200618 yr Absolutely mate, they should've received their "Lifetime Achievement" Award years ago... They certainly merit it a damn sight more than the likes of Duran Duran who were never nearly as consistent as DM.... well maybe they think that as duranuran were a big pop act that were reforming they would get the headlines and the viewers, bet they give it to take that next year  or 5ive
September 29, 200618 yr Author Maybe Depeche Mode, like Kate Bush, have been offered this award - but have refused it? It seems too unbelieveable to think they've never even been considered. Ah... but of course.... Mute don't have the cash that the other labels have......
September 29, 200618 yr Considering that DM have had over 40 singles actually in the Charts and they've sold over 73 million records in their career, I fail to see how this doesn't qualify for the Chart Chat Forum, but, hey, fair enough....... :) Every act in the country has no doubt scored a Top 75 hit at some point, doesn't mean they should all go in Chart Chat though - that's why we have genre forums :D I didn't mind moving it, so I'm not moaning at Russ btw. Also it seems to be getting loads of attention here so...
September 30, 200618 yr Ah... but of course.... Mute don't have the cash that the other labels have...... They've had EMI's backing since 2002, so I doubt that cash is the problem.... I think its more to do with the fact that DM are one of those very rare things - a big name act who dont really play the industry/media game, they dont need to, they know that they've got a hugely devoted and pretty damn big fanbase to fall back on....
September 30, 200618 yr I already have their two previous best ofs 81-85 86-98, so i don't think i'll bother with this one....unless it has a dvd with it. Ditto. They have been a great act with a very consistent chart-run. But I think what has not helped their profile, is that they have always been in the shadow of other similar contemporary acts (Duran Duran, The Cure, U2) with their various electronic pop/rock style of music. There are certainly worse acts who have already received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BRITS.
