"Disco Love" is a song recorded by English-Irish girl group The Saturdays from their fourth studio album, Living for the Weekend (2013). Written and produced by Icelandic producers StopWaitGo, it was released on 4 October 2013 as the fourth single from the album. The song peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart with first week sales of 51,690 copies.

Reception

Robert Copsey of Digital Spy described the single as "light 'n' fluffy electropop so sugary it'll rot your teeth in an instant, while the chorus has the kind of ear-snagging hooks that quickly dig deep."[1] While giving the single four out of five stars, they also compared the single to the group's previous material, citing, "Don't get us wrong, we enjoyed their recent foray into US-friendly pop, but we'll always prefer The Saturdays when they're at their most gaudy and glittery."[1] Sam Lansky from Idolator called the song "a beacon of lighthouse illuminating the darkness of the charts!"[3] He also described it as "instantaneous and propulsive, and exactly the shot of adrenaline that they needed."[3]

Reception on Buzzjack, part 1

IT'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD.

It's easily one of their best singles ever.

I like it but it's not strong enough to launch the album.

I think its incredible! Easily up there with What About Us and Higher.

I think the mid-tempo will appeal to a wider audience and then its easy to remix so it can still get dance play

It's totally strong enough! Breezy, uplifting and cute. It will go top 3.

It's an absolute stomper of a track!!

Really shows just how bad Gentleman actually was.

Radio better eat this up. Hopefully Capital play it constantly.

I love it. Hope it's a big hit and they promote it big time to make it a hit.

It's amazing on first listen <3

It's quite fine and the chorus is rather catchy but longevity is out of the question (not that any Saturdays single will be rememered in 10 years time other than by their loons).

It's cute, I like the chorus but the whole song isn't massively strong and no way is it up there with their highlights.

This seems like a mixbetween My Heart Takes Over and What About Us, but not quite as good as either

I'm not loving this so far, though I'm sure that's because it's a grower and I expected an uptempo

Reception on Buzzjack, part 2

Omg LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!! Totally not dancing around to it in my room whilst I'm getting ready for work... never.

I love it!!

I love this! Radio will eat this up no doubts!!

Fabulous

I would be lying if I said I was loving it, but I've only listened once so far. It's good but I'm not :w00t: over it. I wasn't expecting it to be so calm sounding.

It's fresh for them though and this will be easy for the public to get on board with.

it's good but it sounds like a b-side? Definately not #1 material!!

Really liking this  much better than Gentleman

This is fantastic! A hell of a lot better than Gentleman, hopefully it'll perform better too. :kink:

I like this but I've no urge to really play it again. It sounded SO much better than 'Gentleman' and I love Mollie's intro and the chorus, but I don't know, it's a bit too slow?

It's absolutely brilliant and once again all about Mollie  , Radio 2 will love this as well so fingers crossed for good airplay.

Not impressing me all too much. However, I thought their only #1 hit thus far wouldn't even reach the dizzy heights of #41 so... my #14 prediction is probably useless.

Reception on Buzzjack, part 3

This is absolutely fantastic!! So so so much better than 'Gentleman' and I can see it challenging 'What About Us' as my favourite Saturdays song in the future! :o

Love This! It is so fresh sounding, a nice wee break from the massive dance anthems! I am glad that Mollie got the Britney line, I thought it was Una woops!! Lets hope it smashes and they might get X Factor, as when they got #1 with WAU X Factor congratulated them, plus Rochelle is married to marvin, of JLS, an XF group haha

LOVE this song  This will definitely send them shooting back into the top 10. #6 please but I wouldn't be disappointed if it got higher :kink:

Well isn't this a lovely little song. This gives me more hope for the album, as much as Gentleman was a nice experiment it's great to see them making songs that sound within their comfort zone. Might need a couple more listens but I'm fully back on board the Sats train from day 1 again.

So much better than Gentleman! This is glorious, so cute and uplifting and a great PROPER throwback to 90s music without being too in your face about it. Hope this can turn this era around a bit for them.

I'm sorry, but that is dire.

What even is it?

This is rather cute. I definitely think it's got more widespread appeal than 'Gentlemen'. It's no 'What About Us', but I think this'll see them back in the top ten.

Loveee the Britney lyric, ha!

I really like it on first listen, I can see it being a huge grower and it will definitely do better than Gentleman.

It really done well considering the AirPlay!

Yes! Even just the first week sales (although the promo was good, so that explains a bit of that).

At that time I didn't really get it, but now it's obvious to me the public just thought The Saturdays weren't talented enough (or worse, that they were shit) and didn't want to throw money at a full album from them, but definitely didn't mind buying a song everynow and then when the girls got it right.
Which Disco Love happened to be
. So had they been top 10 on the airplay charts for like 2-3 weeks, I honestly think 'Disco Love' would have easily sold already about 250k, potentially more. The album still would have flopped horribly on its arse because of the reasons mentionned above, but yeah the single could have done so much more.

Did I really call this b-side Material? This Is easily my favourite single they've ever released

Perfection, up there with their best work completely. Agree with Hurricane this would easily be one of their best selling singles with better airplay, it really struck well with the general public. It'll be their next song to get certified no doubt, whenever that happens. I wouldn't have been surprised, with better airplay, if this had been one of their classic, challenge for number 1, but end up at 2 or 3 songs.

Still as mad about it today, as I was when it premiered tbh. Love it!!

I agree. The whole 80's feel to the song was the real highlight for me. It was absolutely amazing at the time and I have no idea how I could call it b-side Material. It is probably Their most perfect pop song they'd ever released!!
I had forgotten how good the acoustic version they did on Sunday Brunch was

The Stepping Out performance truly is one of their best actually, isn't it? I've just realised they are all in synch with eachother throughout the whole thing...Hell even with their dancers! Which is a feat considering how shitty they can be when it comes to that.

The Stepping Out performance is great, easily their best for the Disco Love promo

Love this song and agree that performance is great.

Hurricane hits the nail on the head regarding their popularity. Even within the usually open minded pop world, The Saturdays were always seen as someone it's not cool to like, when Girls Aloud and Little Mix fandom was fine. Not really fair considering they had so many good singles. But I guess too many ropey performances, messy campaigns and hit or miss single choices messed them up in that regard.

Next single:

Everyone's too cool to like us - The Saturdays (feat. Carly Rae Jepsen)

#71 smash

I don't understand how the can be that good and be a mess the next day. I also believe there wasn't really any motivation after US, I think they're really glad with this "Hiatus",

Crazy to think that Disco Love is over two years old now. I thought I'd share some chart stats that I collected during its chart run in honor of its anniversary. I have a lot for What About Us too so I'll probably post those soon.

I would have loved to have seen Disco Love go silver, considering it opened at #5 to such strong sales, but it tumbled out of the charts far too quickly.

One of their best! still a nice listen three years down the line. Shame it's not silver when it's miles ahead of some of their certified singles (Missing You, Issues).

Also that Surprise Surprise and Paul O'Grady Performances are some of their best. Unpopular opinion but I prefer them without Frankie :/

In a non creepy way, is that actually them on the front of the cover or is it five random models?
