Posted September 29, 200618 yr Do we really need to see this film? I mean, I think "United 93" really perfectly encapsulated the events quite spectacularly and in a relatively restrained, dignified and low-key way which I think made the point a lot more effectively. This just appears to be a 'big-effects' movie with Ollie Stone going all out to tug the heart-strings, Stone is a film-maker who can hardly be described as 'restrained'.... One review I've read uses the words "emotionally manipulative". Is this a fair assessment...? Have any of our US Posters seen this film,,? Thoughts.....
September 29, 200618 yr It got awful reviews. :o The Sun and another paper i read gave it 1 and 2 stars only :o However Q mag gave it 4  Oliver Stone has gone to down hill seemingly -_-
September 29, 200618 yr I'm going to see it Sunday, there will be mixed reviews as many feel it is way too early to make a film on such a tender subject so early...
September 29, 200618 yr Well United 93 got 5 stars in almost every review it got. World Trade centre seems all too hollywood if you know what I mean. As a film if it apperently rather dull. One critic said that he was amazed Oliver Stone was able to make the single more jaw-dropping event of our lifetime almost see dull. They said he played it far too safe -_-
September 29, 200618 yr what REALLY annoys me about this film is that the film company have used the Yankee spelling of 'centre' for the UK - which I find highly insulting. In the age where anything remotely British not only gets rebranded and re-spelled ...but get's RE-MADE entirely for the American market, I think it's a disgrace that whoever marketed this film didn't have the courtesy to change the spelling to its correct origins for the UK audiences. They're speaking our language in the movie, after all...ahem. The other thing that insults me is that Nic Cage can't act his way out of a paper bag and only made any films in Hollywood because of his family connections... dreadful actor, always was, and still is.
September 30, 200618 yr But the building was in New York and was called "World Trade Center." Is it proper to change the spelling of a name? Personally I loathe Nick Cage and hate even more manipulative films such as this. I would NEVER see it... Although for the record, Oliver has recently made public his disagreement (putting it lightly) of the Bush admin and the way they manipulated 9/11 grief. So perhaps that makes this film more genuine.
September 30, 200618 yr Author what REALLY annoys me about this film is that the film company have used the Yankee spelling of 'centre' for the UK - which I find highly insulting. Yeah, I can kind of see that point of view, but as Consie says the name of the building was actually the "World Trade Center", so who's right if that is the proper name of the building..? I'd be mightily insulted if someone chose to re-spell my name with only one 'T'... I suppose if some American makes a film about the "Centrepoint" building in Tottenham Court Road, London and renames it "Centerpoint", we'd have more cause to complain about that.....
