Ok, so a while ago I decided to start rummaging through the Top 10's of UK chart past, starting with the very first chart in 1980. I did this for every single chart from 1980 until today, though I used the sales only chart when the Spotify streams started getting added (because I wanted a little more variety than the stale stream-included chart) - this means however that some songs such as "Like I Can" by Sam Smith were never eligible for my chart as they never reached the sales only top 10.

I'd like to state right away that without a doubt there are mistakes in many places on this list so just bare with me on that. I'll be posting the first couple of number ones shortly, and will continually edit this thread to include all the number ones so far. If I've counted right, which I think I have, my current Reshuffle No. 1 count is 978 hits.

001. Pink Floyd - "Another Brick In The Wall"

3 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 05 Jan, 1980 - 19 Jan, 1980

So we kick this off with the ultimate punk number, the classic "Another Brick In The Wall". This was an actual number one back in 1980 for a grand total of five weeks, but here it settles for only three. The main reason for that though is that three of it's actual weeks on top were in 1979. This is a classic no matter how you feel about it, it's been featured on numerous "Greatest Songs Ever" lists and was even remixed by Eric Prydz in 2007 - giving it another boost up the charts in its' new form. I remember I used to be scared to death of the film made to this song, especially the part where all the kids were being put into the meat grinder. That stuff gave me nightmares for weeks when I was a kid. (nb. I was a kid way after this song was released since I was born in 1990) This is one of only two numbers ones Pink Floyd managed to snatch on my reshuffle chart from 1980 until today.

002. KC and The Sunshine Band - "Please Don't Go"

2 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 26 Jan, 1980 - 02 Feb, 1980

Next up is another classic. I remember hearing this on Cold Case in its' second season I think and I was like "omg what song is this, it's amazing". I wasn't very informed about music back then so little did I know this was a big hit and was even remixed in the 90's as a dance smash by KWS. This grew quickly on me as a 1980 favorite as it was actually the very first US No. 1 hit of the 1980s! It's a beautiful and heartbreaking ballad about someone who is so not ready to let go of the person they love, but in a lovely 80's beat which suits it so well. KC and The Sunshine Band (Which for the longest time I somehow always mixed up with Katrina & The Waves .... don't ask me why lmao) have only one more Number 1 hit on my chart but you'll have to wait a few years for that one.

003. The Nolans - "I'm In The Mood For Dancing"

2 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 09 Feb, 1980 - 16 Feb, 1980

Final number one for now is the wonderfully cheerful "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" by the Nolan Sisters, better known as just The Nolans. This happy number is their only single to reach No. 1 in the period covered on my chart, and I gotta admit I had no idea of their existence until Coleen appeared in Celebrity Big Brother. I mean, of course I had heard the song, but I had never know who sung it. It was the obvious choice for number one in those two weeks it took the top in my chart as the top 10 was rather stale at the time. I like this song a lot, but I'm not sure it would have been number one in a different time of the year. It was after-all only a #3 hit on the real chart.

I basically just shuffle around the Top 10 UK Chart singles of each week to choose my favorite single of each week. This is the countdown of My Personal No. 1 singles out of the Top 10 to choose from each week. :) Not sure if that explains it :P

004. Blondie - "Atomic"

1 week at No. 1 ∙ 23 Feb, 1980

So this is the first number one that I probably would not have chosen as the number one if the Top 10 hadn't been so terribly stale. I mean it's a fun song but the only thing I remember about it is the beat which is pretty cool. This was not a long-running number one on my chart as it only stopped by for one week but don't worry, Blondie came back to the top three more times after this. This was definitely the start of the Blondie phase as their hits only grew bigger after this.

005. Michael Jackson - "Rock With You"

1 week at No. 1 ∙ 1 Mar, 1980

Again, this song only made the top spot of the chart because of the dreadful state of the Top 10 in that particular week. Michael Jackson has made a lot better songs, and well frankly he's also made a lot worse. This is just a bit boring for my taste, but thankfully the 80's are just starting where we're at right now and MJ has a whole lot of more number ones coming after this one. "Rock With You" was a slow jam that has always really been one of my least favorite MJ songs but since even his worst are better than a lot of the crap that was out at this time I guess that says a lot about the King of Pop.

006. Peter Gabriel - "Games Without Frontiers"

4 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 8 Mar, 1980 - 29 Mar, 1980

Peter Gabriel reminds me of my mom because I know she loves his music and played a lot of it when I was young. I remember this song and I used to love it back then, so it was a pretty easy for me to pick this one to top the chart in the weeks that it kept the title. I'll admit that two of those were just because nothing of note was really in the Top 10 but it's also got to do with the quality of the song. This is truly an 80's classic and it's really sad to see that it only made #4 in the actual chart. This is Peter Gabriel's only hit to make it to number one in my chart.

007. The Brothers Johnson - "Stomp!"

1 week at No. 1 ∙ 6 Apr, 1980

Yet another song to make it to No. 1 thanks to the rest of the Top 10 being pretty shitty. I had never really heard this song prior to making this list but it's a decent enough disco song so I agreed to put it at number one for one week while waiting for something more interesting to appear. It definitely goes without saying but this is their only number one hit on my chart. I have no idea who they even are but it's nice enough!

008. Blondie - "Call Me"

5 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 13 Apr, 1980 - 11 May, 1980

In a rather stale chart environment Blondie return to the top with a second hit only six weeks after they spent one week there last. This time however they spend five weeks on top with what I consider to be their biggest and at the same time signature hit - "Call Me!" Of course Blondie released some great songs after this one but everyone knows "Call Me", it's like one of the essential 80's hits. I think this is by far my favorite song out of the 8 hits I've ranked so far, but that's probably mostly because of how incredibly classic this is. This is the second million seller on my countdown, but I think it'd be hard to deny this song it's impact as pretty much everyone and their mother can sing along to this song.

009. Hot Chocolate - "No Doubt About It"

1 week at No. 1 ∙ 18 May, 1980

Here's another song that made the top spot only because it was the least terrible song out of the bunch for me. Blondie would have kept the crown longer but they were out of the Top 10 by this point. (I actually just realized they just spent 4 weeks in the Top 10 so I've made a mistake somewhere but god I'm too lazy to try to find it so I'll just keep it as it is) I don't know what I can say about this really though, it's a weird song following up one of the best of the year. I find it unlikely I'll even remember this in 10 minutes but compared to the other 9 songs I had to choose from this was at least okay. It's a bit weird though. Hot Choc comes back swinging in a couple of years though with a much better song so at least there's some redemption in this all.

010. Michael Jackson - "She's Out Of My Life"

1 week at No. 1 ∙ 25 May, 1980

Oh god this is a really bad time for the Top 10 to be honest. I picked this one only because I really did not want "No Doubt About It" to spend two weeks at number one but man this is not good. Michael Jackson is having a real drought of good songs at this point so I'm just really waiting for all the really good 80's bangers to start popping up. This is a boring break-up song and man MJ has done a lot better.

Lol no it's listed under "Fake Statistics", i thought that was pretty obvious. Just my personal "sales".

I just saw that before I read you're reply, I feel so stupid now lol

this seems like a massive task :o will try to keep up with it, though I probably won't be familiar with a lot of the 80s songs.
